Liebowitz took a few other portraits of the Queen, I don't know if they were also in the expo, but I loved the story of what happened when Liebowitz asked her majesty to remove her crown for the picture because it was 'too dressy'. Â

...the queen was not amused.

I haven't been to any museums over here in Florida. We do have a nifty aquarium in Tampa. You could probably say that Epcot and Cypress Springs are museums. With all the old folks wandering around here, you could say that the whole state is a museum.

Dan, Your mom owes you a visit to LA. I'd love to show her around the museums here.

NDT, like any city, there are good people and bad. Glad you're meeting the good ones. As a sometimes visitor - I don't see the grassroot efforts. I see the dirty hippies and the homeless. I get attacked by my 'open minded' liberal friends and relatives. So I enjoy the city for a few days and escape back to what my son calls: Materialistic Southern Ca, where people are honest about it, not cloaking their consumerism in lofty lefty ideals.

As many of us do,I enjoy SF.But,it also reminds me of L:Arry Nivens "Todos Santos" which was actually set outside LA in the near future. It's a city with a dwindling middle class and an increasing supply of panhandlers and young druggies.  (Note;observational data only.)An ex gf lives in a gated community in San Mateo,is a liberal doc,but wouldn't live in the city"for anything".I think it's in trouble.I hope not.

Haven't been to SFO since I was about 10. Spent about 2 weeks around Christmas and New Years. I thoroughly loved the city and Boudin's. I think the Exploratorium and Ripley's Believe It, Or Not were the only museums we went to.

I even managed to get lost down in Fisherman's Wharf for an hour or so. I was scared about being lost in a big city but fortunately a Guardian Angel (first I'd ever heard of them) realized that I was lost and took me to some nearby police officers.

I'd love to go back sometime.

Sorry we couldn't get together, GPW; I always enjoy seeing you when you're up here.

It is an amazing city. Never thought I could live here....but now I have trouble imagining living anywhere else. Yes, it's a political and human cesspool in several respects.....but I have met and gotten to know so many good people while I'm here.

Seriously, though, it's not quite as anti-Republican as you think.....the loud ones are, but as the nutball liberals and Newsom slowly send the City's precarious finances toppling over the edge, people are starting to demand answers.

San Fransisco is a wonderful city to visit, and the DeYoung is one of my favorite museums!
Glad you've discovered photography is art. Like all other forms of art, some of it is great, a lot of it is crap.

As to artists and politics. I'm paraphrasing Dennis Prager here - great art and morality are not the same thing. One can be a great artist and an awful human being, or simply have really bad political views.

Though nowadays most artists tend to be liberal. May have to do with the fact that they don't like the business side, which is indispensable if one wants to make a living off ones talents.
Of course Annie doesn't fall into that catagory, but as most gays have found- it's easier to 'belong' if you are a lefty. Sometimes it takes someone 60 years, like David Mamet, to wake up and really examine his life before he realizes that being a brain dead liberal is not a prerequisite to being a talented artist.
