GayPatriot Endorsements:
McCrory, Hillary & ‘NOTA’ in North Carolina Primary

May 5, 2008 by GayPatriot

The time has come as I finally get my official “say” in the 2008 election.  Tomorrow is the North Carolina Primary!  And we have a lot going on in the Tar Heel state besides that one primary race you are hearing a lot about.

So for all of you from North Carolina who read GayPatriot or have family/friends that do…. here are my official, personal endorsements.  (GP Ed. Note:  I respectfully still disagree with Dan on his support of John McCain, so these are my PERSONAL endorsements).

FOR REPUBLICAN NC GOVERNOR:  Charlotte Mayor Pat McCrory.

It is about time that the largest metro area in the state have a larger say in Raleigh.  Our voice has been minimized lately because the former DEMOCRAT from our area who was the Speaker of the House is sitting his ass in jail due to massive corruption.

McCrory is the seven-term Mayor of the City of Charlotte.  He has governed with, what I would call, a conservative pragmatism.  Not perfect, but just right for being a Republican mayor in the second largest city in the South. (Yes, that’s right Atlanta!)   He has made job growth, fighting crime and cracking down on illegal immigration the cornerstones of his campaign.   I think he is the best GOP candidate to win back the Governor’s Mansion for conservative governing this year.

DISCLOSURE:  I am a proud financial contributor to McCrory for Governor.

FOR DEMOCRAT PRESIDENTIAL NOMINATION:  Senator Hillary Clinton

As a proud footsoldier of Operation Chaos, it is my duty to urge unaffiliated and switched-Republicans in North Carolina to VOTE HILLARY!!! (I think a little vomit just came up…)  Â

Ahem, anyway… if we have to have a Democrat in the White House I’d much rather have the devil we know than the silver-tongued devil we don’t know.  Â

Oh yeah….and on gay rights — Hillary, Obama & McCain are all the same; why waste my breath on that topic?

FOR REPUBLICAN PRESIDENTIAL NOMINATION:  “NONE OF THE ABOVE”

We have a cool option on the North Carolina ballot that I plan to use tomorrow:  None Of The Above (NOTA); technically the spot on the ballot reads: No Preference – Republican.

I cannot in good conscience vote for John McCain who, without the pantsuit and cackle, looks to be a lot like Hillary Clinton rather than Ronald Reagan to me.  I fear the unchecked President McCain (with support/acquiensence) of the Democratic Congress) will roll the clock back on securing the border, ensuring economic growth and may allow millions of Americans to be vaporized because he doesn’t want to even consider the Jack Bauer-treatment of terror suspects.  Don’t even get me started about the threat as President he poses due to his blatant disregard to the freedom of speech guaranteed under the First Amendment (McCain-Feingold).

Sorry John…. you may have won over others in the Republican Party — but you have a LONG way to go with me.   I can at least let you know how I feel … with my vote for ‘NOTA’ tomorrow in North Carolina.

Words fail me. I can’t imagine changing my party affiliation to vote for a Republican that I hated becuase he or she would be easier to defeat in November. Again it seems the difference between you and me is that I have a conscience. I would go on that attack if Democrats were endorsing this practice. It’s despicable. How desperate you all must be to stoop this low.

Learn to read, Hound… he said he is voting for Hillary because she is the Democrat he would prefer to have in office. “if we have to have a Democrat in the White House I’d much rather have the devil we know”. Seems pretty clear to me. I think that is a perfectly legitimate reason. Especially since the Republican nominee has been chosen.

Also, the purpose of “Operation Chaos” is not to pick the weakerDemocrats, it’s to keep the Democrat fighting as long as possible. If the Democrats didn’t apportion delegates, Obama would have locked up the nomination a long time ago. Don’t whine now because your party has a flawed primary process.

Also, if you really had a conscience, you wouldn’t be a liberal, given how liberal policies have mired people in failure and misery for generations.

Anyway. This election’s been over for me since Super Tuesday. Jindal 2012!

#2 – Barks Schweinhundtenor: “I would go on that attack if Democrats were endorsing this practice.”

Uh, they did. In 2000. And in 2008. In both instances, the DNC got busloads of people to register in NH (with its open primary) to effect a McCain win. It was openly condoned by the party apparatus.

    OK Schweiny? Now – ATTACK!

Hey, V the K, are you sure about your delegate count (that Obama would have wrapped up the nomination long ago if there wasn’t proportional representation)? I’ve heard a number of pundits say the opposite, that Hillary would have the nomination since, except for Illinois, she has won the big states with the most delegates. But because of proportional representation Obama has gotten a big share of delegates from each of those states.

Bruce, you should read the new book, “Pure Goldwater”, and Barry Goldwater’s feelings about John McCain. No one can know, of course, whether Goldwater would support Clinton or Obama, but it’s obvious that if he were alive today, Goldwater might not lift a finger to help McCain win the White House. (I thought I had the book in my briefcase but find that I left it at home. I’ll bring it with me in the morning and cite the pages of most interest.)

Hey, Gay Patriot (#6), where’s McCain’s endorsement of ENDA, eliminating DADT, or repealing DOMA? Cite your evidence or shut up.

If you want to say McCain is not as bad on gay rights as Bush, is moderate enough to support because of non-gay conservative positions, or even that you suspect that he doesn’t actually hold antigay views and will not just do the religious right’s bidding like Bush, fine by me. I can respect that. But what you said is that the three candidates are “the same,” and that is so patently absurd as to be hilarious. Propaganda needs to sound at least superficially plausible in order to work.

    As for the Democratic Congress:

    (1) House passage of Hate Crimes, now stalled by GOP filibustering in the Senate and a GOP veto threat,

    (2) House passage of ENDA, now stalled by GOP filibustering in the Senate and a GOP veto threat,

    (3) No floor amendments and appropriations riders covertly pushing an antigay religious-right agenda down the nation’s throat, and, most importantly,

    (4) No pointless gay-bashing votes in either house on a Federal Marriage Amendment.

And that’s about the most anyone can expect as long as we have 49 GOP Senators and a bigot-coddling GOP President.

    Steve (#10)-

First of all, don’t come into my house and tell me to shut up.

Secondly, so in your worldview… the *absence* of legislation is proof of progress? If that’s the case, you must love the GOP-run Congress. At least they stood up to Clinton’s AIDS annual budget-cutting frenzy.

As for McCain, Obama & Hillary — aside from empty rhetoric — on the major issues that the Gay Left supports; they are identical. There is no point debating gay issues in this campaign — shades of gray.

Wrong – The truth is that with winner-take-all primaries, Hillary Clinton would have resoundingly won the the nomination by Super Tuesday. Just do the arithmetic – it’s not that hard.

Second point – GP wrote: “on gay rights — Hillary, Obama & McCain are all the same”. Wrong! The immense difference between McCain and the Democrats on gay issues is that McCain will pander to the religious gay bashers to try to “prove” his conservative credentials.

This election is the time for reasonable Republicans to repudiate religious control of the party, and take back the party for mainstream conservatives. Vote for the centrist Democrat to send a message to Republican leaders to stop trying to manipulate the electorate by non-rational wedge issues.

I mean you can also argue who won caucuses versus primaries, and whether Michigan or Florida should even count, and then the completely undemocratic use of superdelegates to decide the outcome. The point is, the Democrats came up with a chaotic primary process, and they have no one to blame but themselves.

But look at the bright side. Either Democrat candidate is a liberal ideologue and party loyalist. The Republican process stuck them with a guy whose entire senate career has consisted of joining with Democrats to screw over his own party, and who is much more comfortable in the company of Ted Kennedy and Hillary Clinton than he is with members of his own party.

I’d say the Democrats have little to be whining about.

I would never say a bad thing about a Republican again…not that I really do now.

So Go Hillary, win and win.

Hillary’s been in the Senate just under 8 years. Where’s her bills to end DADT or DOMA?? Barack Hussein Snobama’s been in the Senate under 4 years. He’s put forth several bills. Which ones have to do with repealing DADT or DOMA???

Cite your evidence or drop down, fifth ring, cook.

    Then Pogo says:

McCain will pander to the religious gay bashers to try to “prove” his conservative credentials.

And Hillary &Snobama will pander to the self-hating gay victim class for cash and votes. If history is any indication, the gays will get fucked over by the liberals AGAIN!

Then the next time around, the miserable gay victims will shower them with cash and votes and marvel about how wonderful the left is.

Vote for the centrist Democrat to send a message to Republican leaders

Exactly which of the Communists running for president would this be?

Your logic, Bruce, is impaired. Operation Chaos should want a split between the two primaries: Indiana for Clinton and North Carolina for Obama. So as a proud member of the effort you should urge your fellow North Carolinians to vote Obama, not Clinton!

    Bruce —

Per yesterday’s comment: If you get a hold of a copy of “Pure Goldwater” go to pages 365-68. Senator Goldwater’s correspondence with McCain goes from warm endorsements to curt, formal letters after Goldwater learns that McCain has used him.

BTW, I highly recommend this new book to anyone who admires Barry Goldwater. Throughout his life, the Senator kept a journal that is rich with observations about behind-the-scenes relationships and events in the Eisenhower, Kennedy, Johnson, Nixon, Ford, Carter, Bush and Clinton presidencies. Barry Goldwater Jr. and John W. Dean edited the journal entries and the Senator’s correspondence beginning in the 1930s to compile a book that offers a unique look at the man and his ideals.
