Should McCain Eschew Telling the Truth?
During my morning blog read, I followed Glenn Reynolds’ link to Don Surber’s post on our all too dainty politics.
That Charleston columnist pointed out that Richard Cohen, one of his peers from a paper in the nation’s capitol, had faulted the presumptive Republican nominee for engaging in the “the sort of campaigning” he had once “vowed to eschew.”
And what had John McCain done to warrant this this tongue-lashing?
He had said, “Barack Obama’s foreign policy plans have even won him praise from Hamas leaders.” Something which has indeed happened.
So, I guess for a liberal columnist it’s mud-slinging whena Republican brings up unpleasant facts about his likely Democratic opponent? Cohen had just become yet another MSM pundit repeating the Democratic mantra that John McCain is no longer the maverick they once admired, but has become a clone of George W. Bush.
It’s all because he has a chance at winning the White House for the GOP. It seems columnists as well as reporters will eschew honest campaign coverage in order to prevent that from happening.

My favorite part about these “a scary Muslim said something complementary about a Democrat” is how the Right swallows each and every statement whole, as if it has no agenda, needs no spin: it means exactly what it says and must be taken at face value. Every other statement that come from these homicidal maniacs about, say, Zionist murderers and fake missile damage is treated with the suspicion it deserves, but if they’re talking about Democrats, well, it must be the truth.

Um, torrent, if you’re going to comment so much here, could you please address the points I make rather than making up facts. A Hamas spokesman did say he’s like to see Obama elected. That’s a fact. He said it. They’ve also said a lot of crazy things. But he did say this.
So, please tell me why it’s wrong for McCain to bring it up?

I would be a lot more outraged about the incident - i.e., the media’s clear double standards and pitching for Obama - if McCain weren’t an eco-wacko, Big Government guy out to undermine (if not destroy) capitalism, border security, etc.

Yes. We’ve seen this before, with the Swift Boat Vets. Their charges were true. Democrats couldn’t stand that. So they coined the term “swift-boating” try to minimize/dismiss anytime someone brings up TRUE FACTS that may reflect badly on a Democrat.
But the new, new term they have for it is “distraction”. Anytime a Republican brings up a fact about Obama, it’s a “distraction” from the discussion we “should” be having, about how wonderful Barry is, how wonderful socialism is, how wonderful it will be when Barry is inevitably President and gives us the socialism we deserve, etc.

Distraction, ILC, you and I must be on the same wave length today as that’s the subject of my next post.
