Quick Thought on Democratic Contenders’ Speeches

Watching Obama’s “victory” speech in Iowa tonight, just after my workout, as I had watched Mrs. Clinton’s speech just before it and have this thought. He seems angrier than usual in such addresses, less of an uplifting, inspirational tone than we’re accustomed to. Still, his delivery is far better than that of the former First Lady while her address had more meat to it.

He’s going on and on and on and on about change, without saying how he is going to go about offering that, well, except by defeating John McCain whose campaign he repeatedly misrepresents.

Well, they both went on too long.  Way too long.

  1. I remember it well. His posture, attitude were striking. No trademark beaming smile. Possibly he was trying to effect (rather than embody) gravitas, making darn sure he would not be a “Howard Dean redux.” But it belied a discomfort, suggested even a militancy.

  2. I saw that today and his speeches tend to touch me in some way, tonight’s address turned me off.

If he really told us the change he’ll bring, nobody with a right mind would vote for him.

  5. He’s already promised higher taxes, higher unemployment, higher gas prices, adding on thousands of poor families back onto tax roles, cutting off foreign investment in the USA, almost a trillion dollars in new spending on “global poverty” while cutting revenues into the treasury etc. etc. etc.

  6. And don’t forget, TGC, he’s going to tell us how much we can eat, what we can drive, and what temperature we can keep our homes.

  7. #6 - But of course, this discussion doesn’t help the children, either, according to Mrs. B. Hussein Obama.

  8. Speaking of ‘the children’ am I the only one who really did not like seeing that squirrelly little girl on stage with Mommy and Messiah Daddy?
There used to be a certain decorum in these speeches, yes most children are older, but they would stand behind quietly and smile - or not.

Here we have Obama complaining that the GOP is mean to his wife, but he is trotting out those little trophy girls as props. There are times when the children shouldn’t be present - I’d say all of the campaign is that time. It doesn’t humanize him to me, it simply makes him look like a cold blooded politician who will use any prop necessary - then whine when others take notice and comment negatively.

  9. #8 - Well Leah, what do you expect from Windy City politicians? They learned from Mayor Daley himself.

  10. Has any masochist (or person with strong masochist tendencies) scoured Obama’s speeches and made a compendium of the ideas, messages, promises that are unique to each particular speech?

Somehow, I go into full deja vu zombie autodrive as Obama cranks his formulated mild variation of the theme through his boilerplated lips.

Some apparently swoon; I tend to snooze.

  11. I bet he’s a muslim sleeper-agent. He probably wanted to break out the “Allah Akbar”. Can you imagine the stress he’s under not to chortle or laugh in the face of America?

  12. Worse than all of that, we already know he’s going to gut the military worse than BJ and toss our nukes.

Did anybody catch the May Day parade in Red Square the other day? Russia had their missiles on display just like the good ol’ days. This arrogant cuss wants to castrate the U.S. while the ME is jumping into a nuclear arms race.

Can we just say that liberals are cowards? We know they don’t give a damn about securing the country. Hell, they won’t even allow us to try the 9/11 attackers. And we’re supposed to fall all over ourselves to vote for them?
