Well, you just KNOW I salivated at this story on the California Gay Marriage issue in the LA Weekly!
California GOP:Â The Queer Enablers of Gay Marriage – Patrick Range McDonald & Michael Fleischer
For two weeks [October 1991], queer Angelenos rebelled against a Republican governor [Pete Wilson]Â they believed had double-crossed them. But two months earlier, on July 29, 1991, Wilson made a crucial decision for the historic advancement of gay rights, something no one could have foreseen: He appointed Judge Ronald M. George to the California State Supreme Court. Nearly 17 years later, the moderate Republican jurist would become a national gay hero.
Last Thursday, it was George’s carefully written majority opinion that legalized same-sex marriage in California. By nightfall, at the same West Hollywood intersection where a dummy of Pete Wilson went up in flames, gay activists stood on a stage and publicly lauded the judge as “courageous.†Speaker after speaker also praised another Republican, Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger, for promising to “fight†against a November ballot measure that could still outlaw gay marriage in the Golden State.
<….>
Powerful Republicans, through happenstance and well-orchestrated public policy, were leading the charge for the legalization and defense of same-sex marriage in California. It was something state Democrats, the seemingly natural allies of the gay-rights movement, could never completely pull off.
You KNOW you want to read the whole thing now, don’t you!  Read it, READ IT! 🙂
Bottom line for those popping champagne at the California court decision — in order to be true to reality, you must clink your glasses in honor of two Republican Governors — Wilson and Schwarzenegger.
Delicious, no?

Â
Bruce, I’m opening the Veuve Clicquot Ponsardin as we speak!
And a very happy Memorial Day weekend to friend and foe alike. Please reflect on our fallen soldiers, sailors, airmen and Marines as we celebrate the freedom for which they gave the ultimate sacrifice.
Regards,
Peter H.
Isn’t it great?
And the reaction of the Freepers et al. to the CA GOP shows how unwelcome these actions are in the party at large, but it makes the courage shown by some GOP members to defend and advance equality even greater.
Here’s to more GOP members coming out of the equality closet!
HAPPY MEMORIAL DAY WEEKEND TO ALL OF SOLDIERS FIGHTING TO KEEP US FEEE AND TO THEIR FAMILIES WAITING ANXIOUSLY FOR THEM TO COME HOME
#2 – Speaking of foes….

Delicious?
Not really.
Republican politicians doing things that lead to judicial activism leaves a bad taste in my mouth.
Yay! Dictators on both sides of the judiciary! Whhheeeee! Let’s celebrate!
And I love the picture of “Adolph” Wilson from gay activists forcing their will on the people. The hypocrisy and ignorance would be laughable if it weren’t so frightening.
Once again GayPatriot.org reveals the liberal hypocrisy!
#6: “…I have lots in common with the progressive socialist far left wing…However, there are many things that I also have in common with moderate Republicans who are culture neutral-to-progressive (like Ahhhnold) and fiscally conservative.”
I note you use the word “progressive” at both ends of the political spectrum. This confirms what I have always suspected–liberals have NO IDEA what they mean when they call themselves “progressive.” It’s just another way for them to avoid calling themselves liberals. So, “liberal” means “angry, bitter, hypocritical, elitist, illogical, irrational, pathetic and stupid.” And “progressive” means “person who doesn’t want other people (or voters) to find out they are angry, bitter, hypocritical, elitist, illogical, irrational, pathetic and stupid.” Yep. Sounds about right.
The first Progressives were basically the fascists of early 1900s America.. it’s pretty enlightening that the fascists of today would associate themselves with them.
Please rise for the California State Anthem. Lyrics below:
It’s the same as Hillary’s campaign song, BTW.
We have to do a hell of a lot more than thank Arnold if we intend to protect gay marriage in California. We have to raise MONEY. There is going to be a ballot initiative to amend the state constitution this fall, and gay marriage advocates do not have a strong track record of defeating these things. More than 20 states have passed such amendments; only one has ever been voted down.
Equality for All and the HRC California Marriage PAC are two political action committees devoted exclusively to defeating the anti-marriage amendment in California. Anyone can donate any amount online at: http://www.equalityforall.com or https://secure.ga3.org/03/ca_marriage_pac. Give to Equality for All if you can’t stomach HRC. Donations to these PACs do not go to any party or candidate, they go directly to the fight against the ballot initiative.
Hitler and Mussolini were populists.
Look, Chandie, learn something about fascism. The essence of fascism is: worship of the State. The political method of fascism is: telling the people those fatcats and Jews are out to get them – aka progressivism, aka populism, aka demagoguery. The justification or moral method of fascism is this: “We are all one community”. (Ein Volk, Ein Reich, Ein Fuehrer.) Now let’s put them together:
– American populists/progressives telling people “we are all one”? “We have to take things away from you for the common good”? Check.
– American populists/progressives telling people that fatcats (or “oil companies”) and Jews (or “Israel lobby”) are out to get them? Check.
– American populists/progressives worshipping the State and offering It is the answer to every problem, real or imagined? Check.
That is FASCISM.
But here is an additional, confirming test: Modern American populists/progressives finally defending Hitler, showing their hidden sympathy for him? Check.
#15: “We have to do a hell of a lot more than thank Arnold if we intend to protect gay marriage in California. We have to raise MONEY.”
Protect gay marriage? Now THAT’S funny. Afterall, it’s been a traditional institution here in California for like,….what? 45 minutes?
Oh, and please explain to me why I would EVER give money to the HRC when I have a perfectly good toilet at home.
I can think of no greater issue to get Republicans to vote than for a court to impose something like Gay Marriage onto a people that have already voted to prohibit it.
I can think of nothing more self-destructive to one’s ends then for pro-gay-marriage folks to support the Court ruling.
Hi, I’m one of the reporters of the cover story in the LA Weekly. I’m also openly gay, and I’ll be covering the anti-gay marriage ballot measure from now through Election Day, mostly through blogging on our web site. Please feel free to contact me with any tips. My email is at the end of the “Queer Enablers” story. Also, it would be great if you guys left some comments on our web site. We have a lot of left-leaning readers, and it would be good for them to get a different perspective on things. Thanks to Bruce for posting the article. Take care, Patrick
I wish the word Fascim was not invented.. It’s so overloaded.
The heart of Fascism is not dicatorship. Dictatorship is the means.
The heart of Fascism is Collectivism/Corporatism.
I learned a good lesson from Chase a few months back.
Corportatism does not mean a society that is at the mercy of corporations or business. Instead it means a society governed on the organization construct of Social/Industrial/Whatever Collectives with which the government interfaces.. The Collectives were a Corporate representives of the indivudal components (people.. companies.. sectors.. whatever)
You need a dictatorship to make something like this work , which is why Italy, Germany, Soviet Union were all autocratic.
And because the people behind these movements were doing it for the good of society… the good of society trumped anything to do with individual rights and legal protections.
The Left is profoundly stupid when they call small government conservatives Fascists…
They are.
Govt authortiy is a means to a very nasty Dystopian end.
What? Are you going to bribe Californians into loving gays now? Or are you going to flush it away on liberal politicians who blow you for cash & votes, but give you the finger when it really counts?
Patrick: I wrote the following on your story:
I’m gay but am not an advocate of Gay Marriage.
One reason is that I don’t really believe the traditional heterosexual relationship model works well for homosexuals … but I realize others differ , and I don’t want to go any more into that..
My main reason is because the broader society does not want it.
State after State , the people have voted on this issue; even in CA and they voted against this issue.
Just what do you expect to gain by overriding the will of the People. We do live in a Republic.. and a Federal one at that… the people of the States through their Legislatures get to determine what their laws are. Not the Courts.
Can you blame all those Amendments in the 2004 elections? Do you think that the people are going to settle to have their will usurped by a Court that is acting inappropriately? Do you think you are helping your cause with your fellow-citizen by resorting to an Anti-Democratic process to achieve your political objective?
Gender equality or equal-protection was never intended to justify same-sex marriage… it’s such a farce to claim that those measures have for all this time protected same-sex marriage but no one discovered that until last week.
An issue like this is so fundamental to the basis of our (our = American) communities what in the world is a Court doing freezing it out of the normal political process… They’re creating another Abortion type third-rail of never-ending political division and stalemate.
You don’t think this is going to cause a backlash against gay people? IMHO, it’s not that people in society are anti-gay per se.. but they surely aren’t going to be open to be persuaded to change their views if you ram a Court Diktat down their throat.
Marriage is as old as anything in our traditions.. the People don’t want it messed with.. it’s unstable enough. in times that are unstable.
I don’t see any opposition toward getting the equivalent government and legal goodies that are purported to be the great need for “equality” , but they don’t want it under the banner of Marriage.
I think the gay people who resort to court action should respect that and stop being so self-centered and short-sighted.
1.) MOM. Mom is the mother of the child who was born through HER birth canal as the result of vaginal sex with DAD who is married to mom and a constant force in the nuclear family.
Mom is sacred. She is dedicated to nurturing the children and being a warm and positive force. If all is well, Dad makes it possible for mom to stay home and tend the kids.
2.) FLAG. The flag is the symbol of a country so strong that it can even protect the rights of some to use it for toilet paper. It stands tall and waves freely for the rights of anyone to act on his own initiative and rise above the bare necessities through perseverance and a steady dedication to being responsible. (See Boy Scout oath.)
3.) APPLE PIE. At the end of the strenuous long days of the summer farming season, the apples ripen in the first cold nights of the autumn season. It is tidy up time on the farm and there is some “free” time to make cider, clear the fields for spring planting, butcher the hogs and cure the hams, mend the fences and work on the machinery. The barns and silos are full for winter feeding. MOM and Grandmother are baking APPLE PIE with that expensive, special treat they have been saving: cinnamon. APPLE PIE is the seasonal dessert that blesses the family for its long season of hard labor and dedicated diligence. It is the symbol that we are ready for the winter and look forward to the spring and start of a new farming year.
LOL. Beautiful!
#6 – “I find that I have lots in common with the progressive socialist far left wing of the Democrat[ic] Party.”
And another piece of the puzzle falls into place.
FWIW – the Dhimmicrats have not been “democratic” in a long time, not since the 1968 convention. Try “oligarchic” instead.

Peter H.
