* Note to PC Thought Police: “Fag” here is used in a salty, in-crowd way (somewhat like “nigger” among black youth). I heard this joke some years back on SF’s Polk St. which for decades was, to some extent still is, the slummier gay part of town. Take it or leave it.

Well, Rob, I’m assuming it would be in broad daylight if I visited the Fifth Ward. If not, ixnay on that unless I had a concealed handgun (which incidentally is legal in Texas) or accompanied by a resident who would vouch for me.

I can’t say for sure about the LBJ hospital, but Hubby works for the Harris County Hospital District (which encompasses Ben Taub), so I would not be an unbiased source for that one.

Suffice to say that I’ve had my sister treated there 15 years ago for a gunshot wound, and that I’ve said goodbye to a good friend with AIDS who had to be treated there since he had no insurance. Both times, the Ben Taub people were first-rate. Their triage system is the best in the nation.

While I’ve never actually seen a Toray, if you whacked me in the face with a huge scroll, I’d have a pretty good idea.

As far as projects go, I used to volunteer at a fire department in Houston. Our district included a rather large project called Haverstock Hill. Whether for medical or fire emergencies, we always had law enforcement sent with us. Not only that, but somebody had to stay with the apparatus to make sure they weren’t stolen. “Haverstock Hell” used to have security guards. Now they have an HPD substation. I won’t bore you with the stories I’ve heard from police officers, fire, & EMS in regard to the projects in other cities. Ask Pete if he would go through 5th Ward or feel comfortable at LBJ or Ben Taub emergency rooms.

Long story short, as a private citizen, there’s no way in hell I would set foot in projects without at least a .38. An HK MP5 would be better.

I’ve seen studies that legal handguns do save lives,but I lack the stats to know if the science is good.Still,heinlein’s dictum is certainly applicable.I don’t think non american Jews are suicidal or trusting anymore.And many Americans wouldn’t know a Torah if ti hit them ion the face.
Still,the last couple of times I was in SF,it struck me as a city that was economically destabilized I hope I live another 50 yrs,so I can watch what happens

It’s conservatively-estimated that over 2-million robberies, assualts, rapes and/or murder attempts are thwarted by the possession of the firearm…and the willingness to use it…by the intended victim. Not all are in the home, and not all are with handguns….but most of the troglodytes and trolls out-there are cowards and don’t want holes made in them by their intended prey.
