At times when people get on the air who disagree with the moderator’s point of view, they are often harassed by the the moderator and always seem to end up getting cut off.

We used to have the Lionel Show on here in Lakeland. He NEVER let anybody who disagreed with him complete a sentence. Then there was one day, I forget what he said, but he smeared a caller here in Florida as an ignorant country hick and then said that Floridians were all ignorant country hicks. Shortly thereafter, his show was not carried around here.

We now have the Ed Schultz Show. He tends to interrupt those that don't agree, and then when they interrupt him, he gives them grief for interrupting him and gives them the lecture about how only one person can speak at a time. The other night, he did the same thing. The guy didn't say a word after his lecture, Ed hung up on him and called him a PIECE OF CRAP along with some other adjective, I forget which. Then he ranted about how Republicans ALWAYS interrupt supposedly because we're not interested in opposing viewpoints.

Clearly, you don't listen to Rush all that much, if more than once several years ago. What's more, you seem to only believe what MediaMorons tell you he said. Plus, he never accused anybody of having Parkinson's. I listen to Rush almost every day, 9 out of 10 times it's the Podcast. He doesn't "cut off" people unless he has a commercial break. I can't think of a day that has gone by without somebody having an opposing view and he always lets them speak.

The reason Err America is a colossal failure is that nobody wants to listen to anger and "America Sucks!" on a regular basis. That's why liberal radio doesn't survive. There's been many hosts and many time slots and many approaches. It doesn't work because nobody listens. Nobody wants to hear about shooting Bush or blaming Republicans for drunken stupors.

12: The reason why Air America doesn't succeed the way conservative talk radio does is very simple: Conservative Talk radio exists simply for the structured opinion of the moderator's own personal view on the topic at hand. Essentially, the "topic of the day" is set by the moderator and pretty much the only people who are allowed to call in are those who agree ad-nauseam with the commentator's point of view. At times when people get on the air who disagree with the moderator's point of view, they are often harassed by the the moderator and always seem to end up getting cut off.

I'll listen to people like Rush Limbaugh every so often this is pretty much the norm for his delivery. I remember very vividly the day after Hillary Clinton announced back in '04 that she wasn't going to run for president that year....it was on a Sunday and the next day Rush simply couldn't stop talking (ranting) about how he thought she was lying and she would indeed run in '04. Needless to say, the callers agreed with him. I also found it very interesting that he clearly seemed to have a lack of callers on the subject. He spent a lot of time vamping, saying more and more outrageous things in what clearly an attempt to get people to call and agree with him. Perhaps he should have accused Hillary of having Parkinsons or something.

Also, I find it interesting that people like Rush are broadcast live during mid-day hours. Not a high time for people who actually work for a living (and no, the majority of people in this country can't keep blogger's hours) to listen to the radio and spend time calling in to a talk show.

Like it or not, it's a structure that works for the medium. It doesn't lend itself to thoughtful discussion or (God forbid!) dissenting points of view. The medium doesn't seem really ready for listener's who think for themselves and have their own opinions.

I just thought of another example of how the liberals put the people above profit.

Algore's Airport/Airline security scheme. Back in the late 90s, Algore chaired a commission that he was going to take measures to improve airport/airline security. Recommendations were made and then suddenly, Algore gave up on the whole thing. Amazingly, the next day, over half a million dollars ($627,000) was donated to the DNC by TWA, Northwest Airlines, American, Delta, United etc. led by (as I understand) Mrs. Tom Daschle.

Then we got 9/11.

OOOPSIE!!!

rightswrong: Jeffrey Immelt has refused to end GE's business relationships with Iran (not exactly a conservative) and his NBC network boss Zucker (?) is probably the most leftwing of the network chieftains.

Don't forget the New York Times, Washington Post, Los Angeles Times, the St. Petersburg paper, St. Louis Post Dispatch, the Denver paper, Atlanta Constitution, etc., etc., Newsweek, Time, etc., etc.

oh, and trace: here's a link of top biz execs and who they've donated to: obvious GOP trend. there's another area of media folks and their donations, and it's a bit more balanced, maybe even left-leaning (tho I wonder if Roger Ailes knows that Greta Van Sustern's only donated to a democratic candidate). interesting stuff

so to state i'm out of touch simply doesn't jive with these reports...

trace: i'm not out of touch, in total:

GE owns NBC:

Other notables include GE (nyse: GE) boss Jeffrey Immelt, who spread $11,500 evenly between five candidates (McCain, Clinton, Rudy Giuliani, Chris Dodd and Mitt Romney), only snubbing Barack Obama among major candidates.

So, can any of the people who claim the corporate-owned media are mouthpieces for the Republicans and the right name a single movie that came out that supported the Iraq War? Can you name a single Hollywood-produced movie that questions Global Warming? Can you name a single movie or television show that makes the case against same-sex marriage?

Didn't think so.

Pinky Bear and rightswrong are at least good for a lot of laughs.

rightswrong is very much out of touch with reality if he believes that because media outlets are owned by corporations they automatically favor the GOP. While there are notable exceptions here and there, most of the corporations that own the major media outlets have CEOs who tend to support leftist causes and candidates.

And that doesn't just apply to corporations that own the media. In my personal experiences interacting with other corporation CEOs I have found that those who are liberal or moderate far outnumber those who are conservative. I just returned from a retreat for about 50 CEOs of large corporations. (Contrary to popular belief, tax cuts don't dominate our discussions or our priorities.) A little less than half of those at the retreat weren't sure about the presidential election. Among those who had decided who to support, Senator Obama had a narrow lead over Senator McCain.

rightswrong may have had a bad experience with the corporation that once employed him but he is very wrong when he tries to paint corporate America with too broad of a brush.

hey, markie, read this word for word:

It’s a Cartoon (Laugh) Riot
ABE GREENWALD - 07.14.2008 - 10:02 AM
The cover of the upcoming issue of the New Yorker (by Barry Blitt) shows Barack and Michelle Obama done up as Osama bin Laden and Angela Davis respectively, celebrating their seizure of the White House with an American flag burning in the fireplace above which hangs a portrait of the actual bin Laden. The joke (I think?) is supposed to be at the expense of the paranoid Right. But in the end all the wrong targets get slimed. That’s what happens with lazily conceived art.

Those on the non-paranoid Right should be thankful. We should be thankful that someone gives shape to the cartoonish imaginings of the unimaginative Left. How valuable to see the full inventory of the opposition’s shortcomings. For example, on May 10, 2004, the cover of the New Yorker bared an illustration of an oil derrick spurting not oil but blood over Middle Eastern sands. We knew then that the Left’s best argument against the Iraq War was as hysterical and unlettered as its worst. And after President Bush introduced the troop surge, the New Yorker ran an April 9, 2007 cover illustration showing 1040 tax forms folded into paper tanks and fighter plans. We could then confirm that the intelligent Left was not serious about the War.That the New Yorker crowd thinks the main issue of Barack Obama’s candidacy is one of racist rightwing demonization is, for a GOP strategist, a heartening revelation. It means the Left is blind to Obama’s non-cartoonish problems: his inexperience, his gaffe-based policies, his abysmal judgment, and the motivation behind his flip-flops, to name a few. The most salient Obama issue is not that the Right suspects him of militant Islamism, but rather that the entire electorate is beginning to wonder what he’s made of. In assuming that the serious Right seeks to burlesque Obama as the embodiment of our anti-American nightmares, the New Yorker burlesques itself. They are broadcasting a lack of understanding of both their opposition and their own candidate. Just as they were proved wrong in casting the Iraq War as a blood-soaked oil grab and proved wrong about the troop surge being a waste.

Long article short: "skeet! skeet! skeet!!!!". One big Obamagasm from one of those "Republican magazines", eh?

You're too damn funny, Markie. If the election's over, then a fork has been stuck in Obama and he is done. I get the impression that you didn't read the article word for word as you advised.

One of the main things that stands out is that he joined Rev. Racist Bastard Wright's church as a political move. Classic liberal douchebag. That would be worse than Clinton using a Bible as a prop.

Dear That Gay conservative, Since I am married to a Jewish Man and his family are Democrats, including relatives that died in the camps, it would come as some surprise that they are Nazis or Anti-Semitic.

Let's see....there's Jesse "Hymietown" Jackson, or Al Sharpton and his racist phrases, and then, the best of all....Obama supporter and proud Obama endorser Louis Farrakhan.

Add to that Nancy Pelosi's support of Hizbollah and Hamas, both of whom don't even recognize the right of Jews to exist and insist that killing Jews is a sacred duty, and the point is nicely made.

Interesting blog you have here. I came over after reading the fantastic review you got over at Sadly, No!

Unfortunately, your blog is neither gay NOR conservative enough. To remedy the situation, I recommend that you borrow a tactic from other conservative bloggers and inlude lots of graphics of tough looking people with guns. Since yours is a gay blog, as well, you should probably include photos of famous gay Republicans (talk about an embarrassment of riches!) or create a graphic that combines both homosexual activity AND guns. Maybe some sort of Ted Nugent-inspired fetish thing?
