Well, If The Mormons Showed Up Shirtless….
…maybe I’d consider the LDS Church!
PatriotPartner alerted me to this steamy item. It was actually in the online version of the Charlotte Observer newspaper. Mormons Exposed – the calendar!
The 2008 Men on a Mission calendar features twelve handsome returned Mormon missionaries from across the United States who, for the first time ever, have dared to pose bare-chested in a steamy national calendar.
Usually seen riding their bicycles and preaching door-to-door, these hunky young men of faith explode with sexuality on each calendar page. Hand-selected for their striking appearances and powerful spiritual commitment, the “devout dozen” are stepping away from the Mormon traditions of modest dress, and “baring their testimony” to demonstrate that they can have strong faith and be proud of who they are, both with a sense of individualism and a sense of humor.
I’m not quite sure what to think of this — real, satire, little bit of both?
Anyway…. a little-bit of eye candy for you today. Pass the offering plate!

Self deprication, perhaps? I’ve not known to many Mormons (that I know of) but I’ve been told me that the girls are always hot.

Mormons don’t pass an offering plate.

It has to be someone’s idea of a joke.
If it’s not a joke, it’s a little creepy because an LDS guy I dated once told me that, in his experience, there is discreet gay sex on those missions. Assuming it’s true, and that the Church would be against it, then we would have an unwittingly-homoerotic Mormon calendar toying with Mormon denial about Mormon homosexuality. Next up: a calendar by a devout Catholic that shows handsome priests in positive, loving friendships with local boys.

Maybe it’s not that homoerotic:

Looks like only the one dude is in the bare-chested ‘f-me’ pose.

What am I saying? They all are. (Inside the calendar, I guess.)

As I told Dan, V, Rob and ILC the other day, maybe we can start spawning a whole bunch of related calendars:
“Hebrew Hotties on the Golan Heights”
“Lascivious Lutherans”
“Seminary Studs”
“Wet Baptists”
I personally volunteer to screen all the candidate!

The creator of this calendar was excommunicated by the LDS Church. Eh, he doesn’t care and yes the models are indeed good eye candy…

They are all hot….reminds me of the movie “Latter Days” that is shown on Logo.
I am sure there is a lot of discreet Mormon to Morman hunk to hunk liasions…must be their magical hunky undergarments and what they have under them:) slurp:)
Comment by Rocket — July 15, 2008 @ 11:54 am - July 15, 2008
#8 - I saw that movie too. Very powerful albeit somewhat on the preachy side.
I’ve always had my suspicions about SF QB Steve Young. A guy that cute and Mormon should have been a grandfather by age 45. Yet he’s still (to my knowledge) single.

OMG did you look at the t-shirts they are selling on that site? They’re hysterical…”I Heart Mormon Boys”…I gotta git one of those!
Comment by Hunter — July 15, 2008 @ 2:43 pm - July 15, 2008
Peter H…from the rumor mill..it is alleged that former QB (but still very hunky) Steve Young plays on our team…..lucky for us……..as to non Mormon QBs….so is allegedly former QB Troy Aikman (married or not…I am still beating he plays for our team:)
Hunter…who wouldn’t heart those Mormon Boys….yummylicious…..lol….reminds me of Mitt Romney’s sons and I swear at least one of them has to play on our team and I am betting his former Press Secretary (who is now on all the cable shows as a political commentator maybe kinda hopefully plays on our team too) God love those Mormon hotties..hee hee:)

Where’s NDT, the resident calendar veteran?
Comment by ThatGayConservative — July 15, 2008 @ 4:15 pm - July 15, 2008
#11 - Rocket, didn’t you hear? Aikman got a very quiet no-frills divorce about a year or two after he married this “secretary” from the front office of the Cowboys. Which, incidentally, was quickly thrust into the forefront after a book came out alleging that Aikman was gay.
Yes, it IS reminiscent of how Rock Hudson first got married and then divorced, no? I have a good feeling that Aikman is indeed on our team.
And yes - even at his age, Steve Young can still turn heads. Something about these football players…

Okay, let’s not get into outing NFL players here! There’s another place on the Web for that kind of speculation…
Comment by Bruce (GayPatriot) — July 15, 2008 @ 5:30 pm - July 15, 2008
Who’s outing, Bruce? Merely engaging in speculation. I for one don’t have the facts and wouldn’t be mean enough to ruin someone’s life over their own predilections.
I may be on a diet, but that doesn’t mean I can’t browse the menu once in a while!

Bruce……please, lighten up….um, words such as rumors and alleged are in our posts..and quite frankly it is very public knowledge and been speculated about in just about a zillion and a half websites (gay and str8) about Aikman, Young and others….we are just having some humorous, harmless fun……please….
and Peter H. thanks for confirming what I guessed all along about Aikman and Young…..woof:)

I don’t study men’s calendars as much as I do women, but I’ve found with women anymore the phots are so airbrushed, photoshopped etc that they aren’t attractive anymore. So guys, are pics like this of men also cleaned up?
Comment by The Livewire — July 15, 2008 @ 9:51 pm - July 15, 2008
Probably. There certainly looks to be a lot of (unfortunate) hair-trimming going on. That’s probably just the start of it.

Did you miss the news that the creator of the “Men on a Mission” calendar has been excommunicated? AP spread the story across the planet and I blogged about it Monday:

The calendar first got “exposure” (pardon the pun) way back in October:

I have known missionaries who have been harassed, spit on, insulted, physically assaulted, even threatened with shotguns. An LDS Missionary was murdered in suburban DC a couple of years ago. It’s a very tough calling for a young guy, involving two years of intense personal sacrifice. In addition to taking abuse from those hostile to the church, they have only limited contact with their families, and live very monastically.
I have only the greatest respect for them. And most of them will tell you the experience both deepened their faith, and toughened them for life.

#21 - Well, there goes my fantasy date.
#22 - V, as per our off-line conversation, I too have respect for anyone who goes out of their comfort zone and expounds to others. I was in no way implying that the guys in the calendar were no less committed to their ideals than others.
Plus, it does sort of put to rest the prevalent notion that LDS members are strict, holier-than-thou moralists whose existence is dictated by their church. (Donny & Marie, anyone?)

Peter H.

I have known a missionary who did it out of intense pressure from family and church, managed to enjoy it anyway, ran into relatively few problems (I believe he was in Portugal), saw a fair amount of closet homosexuality in the background, and ultimately (several years later) made wrenching personal decisions both to come out as gay and to leave the Mormon church which he disagreed with theologically.
No big point here - Only another data point.
Comment by ILoveCapitalism — July 16, 2008 @ 10:50 am - July 16, 2008
I know, Peter, and I appreciate that. IMHO, the guys who posed for the calendar put themselves out there, and maybe they’ll regret it later, maybe not, but whatever the consequences they brought it on themselves.
I just wanted to keep the tone respectful toward the thousands of other LDS Missionaries. Mocking the serious work they do is, in my mind, akin to those liberals describing our soldiers in Iraq as being on a “joyride.”

I also read where the creator of the LSD Hunks Calendar was excommunicated. However, from his comments, it appears he has taken it in good stride. I remember watching on LOGO a special on LSD Gays at a convention and their internalized struggles. It was both sad and no pun intended enlightening and had humor in the documentary.
Any way, I appreciate the light hearted blog entry story. It is a fun diversion from the day to day bad news we keep getting hit with these days. Then again those topics are covered on here too..this topic was fun to read and the calendar hotties fun to ook at:)
