#43: Five trillion? Where do they expect to get that? To end the war right this second wouldn't get anywhere near enough to cover that.

Ethanol will do only two things: reduce the food supply and make "Big Corn" the new "Big Oil."

with special emphasis on the oil and “military support” industries (all at the expense of the american taxpayer to boot

I sometimes wonder if leftist liberals really hear themselves.

Perhaps we should make it publicly obvious that Barack Obama believes all defense contractors and suppliers are corrupt and that the US government should no longer pay them and shut down their programs, since military equipment is not necessary.

That should throw a few tens of millions people out of work in a hurry.

Response to 33...Who cares if he Bush energy policy was made in secret secret...it was dead on arrival when it was publically delivered to Congress (those folks that actually make laws). Don't let your liberal desire to worry about the process and not the result get in the way. Big oil may have had a lot of input into the Bush plan, but all Congress gave us was ethanol. What Big Oil told Dick Cheney was flushed down the Congressional toilet with our tax dollars used as the toilet paper.
Further, my parents owe their comfortable retirement in part to the huge dividend checks that they get from ExxonMobil. I don't want that party to stop too soon or they are going to come an live with me, and they are truly mad old people and would drive me nuts.

As for the GOP being at the trough, do a little reading about your DEM buddies and Freddie Mac and Fannie May and Acorn and Friends of Angelo. That little slopfest has been going on for years with Dodd and Frank at the front of the line. Now, we the taxpayers, are going to be in line for a five trillion dollar bailout.

I, too, am going to start looking for ways to increase my carbon footprint. To counteract all the smelly, stupid "liberal" fascists.

At my workplace (a small company), the "liberal" fascists have started a campaign to get people to cut back on the number of paper cups they use for coffee, etc. I've increased the number of cups I use.

Someone should start a Web site, "Easy ways you can increase your carbon footprint".

#38 - Right on, AE. My sentiments exactly.

I spent Earth Day 2008 putting the thermostat to 72 degrees and snacking high on the food chain. Then I went out and filled up my car with premium unleaded and drove for about 1 hour.

Deal with THAT, enviro-wackos.

I dont want to carpool. I dont want to ride public transit with smelly homeless people and other unemployed liberals. I dont want to walk or ride a bike. If I had wanted to do these things, I would not have purchased a car.

I love gasoline. I love oil. I love carbon! I want to INCREASE my carbon footprint, and in so doing, I will accomplish more for the environment than all the smelly liberal environmentalists put together.

You see, the way to make the environment cleaner is not by cutting back consumption, but by increasing it. It is economic prosperity that allows society to become so wealthy and spoiled that they can give the environment any consideration in the first place, it is economic prosperity that ushers in the technology that has made usincreasingly cleaner, and it is energy that allows that prosperity.

It is for these reasons that anyone who doesnt want to increase our energy supply is an enemy of the environment.

#37: Good Riddance, I live six blocks from work so I walk. But even if I did need daily transportation, I would sooner eat guacamole with chips made of shards of broken glass before I would peruse some f-ing bulletin board to round up a posse of dim-witted eco-hysterics like you to ride to work with. When I need to take my car to work, I listen to Laura Ingraham and Rush Limbaugh all the way there. In a carpool, I'd probably have to leap out the window onto the freeway just to get away from NPR and some scintillating report about the Beijing Women's Conference or Mumia Abu-Jamal's noble and courageous 1,645th appeal. And more importantly, I REFUSE to be made to feel guilty about it based on some laughable leftist moralizing about how I owe it to "future generations" to carpool. I don't "owe" future generations ANYTHING and I fantasize about having the opportunity to tell Al Gore to his face to shove his elitist, Earth-in-the-balance snake oil straight up his mammoth ass. Gore's ridiculous tales about global warming and the extinction of the human race coming to pass in as soon as 5 years are filthy, f-ing lies, PERIOD. I paid for the car, I bought the gas and I have every right to drive myself to work without having to go on some morning car rally to pick up a bunch of idiots like you and then coordinate my schedule with you losers to get myself home at some point in the evening. My ride to work isn't about "getting to know people" and "having fun"--it's about getting to work without piling on a list of daily hassles to contend with all because some fat-ass, failed Presidential candidate scolded me about "doing my part" for "future generations" that don't even exist. The truly intolerable part is that the guy who is trying to shame people like me into carpooling and riding a bike is the same fu*k-head that takes a Boeing G5 to the Piggly-Wiggly just to pick up a gallon of milk. Al Gore is a disgusting, elitist hog and I utterly reject the "nobility" of his global warming crusade to enslave us all.

The fact that I even have to DEFEND driving myself to work alone in these unequivocal terms and clarify for you that I will not feel guilty about it or apologize for it (and have NO moral obligation to do so) just proves how totally and completely out of control you leftist, village-of-the-damned, eco-dip-sh*ts have become. Who the fu*k do you think you are telling other people how to live their lives?! How dare you try to make anyone feel guilty for not capitulating to a list of rules and regulations that Al Gore pulled out of his ass for no reason but his own narcissism and GREED? Just take your tendencies to cooperate with any fascist plot the liberals put in front of you, and cram it. You and your nazi soldiers are terrified that domestic drilling will reveal new, abundant sources of oil, thereby causing prices to drop and keeping free Americans driving their own cars because they want to. The fact that you and your ilk actually PREFER a system where the state keeps us under its thumb, riding government buses and trains MAKES ME SICK. Presented with an option that preserves freedom (and the economy) and an option where the state has significant control over our daily lives, liberals ALWAYS choose the option that is closest to totalitarianism, and worse, tries to shame everyone around them into capitulating and giving up their freedom too because it's what government thinks "is best." It's cowardly and pathetic, which is what you can always expect from liberals.

So, you go right along with your constant, desperate attempts to give away your freedoms to whatever empty suit you are currently worshipping. I will not submit and I'm sure as fu*k not going to feel guilty because I refuse to become a socialist lap-dog like you.

Carpooling isn't that difficult Peter. I am sure you have a local bulletin board to have people sign up for certain outings. You and your neighbors could share a ride to the market. Take turns and chip in for gas.

It's a nice way to get to know people and have fun.

#35: "Is it possible that some investors saw the handwriting on the wall?"

No, Robert. That's NOT possible. It is public record that Al Gore can't manage to reduce HIS OWN energy consumption by even 1% from one year to the next. Investors know that Al Gore is incapable of making HIMSELF independent from fossil fuels in 10 years, much less our entire nation. It's just another mortifying, unbelievable lie Gore has fed to his adoring fans (the MSM). It is as likely to occur as dinosaurs hatching and running wild in Costa Rica, or an army of evil unicorns invading our planet and taking over. (Hence, it's no surprise that idiot liberals see it as an "ambitious goal.") It's complete fantasy, primarily because Al Gore doesn't plan to do anything to reduce his own fossil fuel consumption or anyone else's. He'll just continue crucifying Republicans for destroying the planet--that's what will keep his snake-oil business profitable well into the next decade.

So, no, Robert. Nothing Al Gore says has any affect on ANYONE beyond the usual sycophantic adoration he gets from the MSM and his band of irrational eco-dupes, like yourself. Liberals will sign onto anything as long as it attacks and discredits Bush, no matter how ludicrous or silly. The price of crude went down because Bush lifted the executive order on domestic drilling, PERIOD. It didn't happen because of anything Gore said, and it is also not attributable to the other HOWLER being peddled by the MSM: that Obama caused the price reduction when he made a speech mentioning those new-fangled "innovative" windmills and solar panels that are going to be the centerpiece of his suicidal energy policy. There is clearly NO LIMIT to what liberals will say to push their ridiculous agenda. For years, liberals have been telling us with straight faces that domestic drilling will do NOTHING to the prices--as if the economic axioms related to supply and demand simply don't apply to oil. It's unbelievable and totally insane, but there it is--start printing the bumper stickers! If the Obamassiah told you to, you ignorant puppets would argue that gravity only applies to some tangible objects, but not others. I just find it shocking how gullible and stupid Gore and Obama's supporters are--they are literally willing to say or do anything they are told by the DNC. It wouldn't surprise me at all if liberals started telling us that the Sun, in fact, occasionally rises in the West and sets in the East, if it would help Obama get votes somehow. It literally blows my mind.

Something else happened on July 17th when crude prices fell. Al Gore gave his speech with the ambitious goal of independence from fossil fuels in 10 years. Is it possible that some investors saw the handwriting on the wall?

19: So, why didn't the Republican controlled congress under Bush get it? Or why was the Bush administration's energy policy always secret? Or why did Bush work so hard to roll back / stop new governmental requirements for better fuel efficiency in vehicles from the day he walked into office?

It's very simple - profits of large corporations have trumped the general welfare of the citizens of this country from the moment Bush entered office. energy, health, education have all taken back seats to Bush, Cheney, et al., helping out all their big corporate buddies (with special emphasis on the oil and "military support" industries (all at the expense of the american taxpayer to boot). It's no wonder we haven't caught Osama Bin Laden in nearly 7 years - the attacks on America gave the Bush & Company a huge gift of distraction (fight terror) while they and their buddies have swilled like swine unapolgetically at the public trough.

it's a huge mess that will take years to clean up / fix.
