On Age and Presidential Greatness

September 12, 2008 by GayPatriotWest

Something struck me as I was reading the chapter on Teddy Roosevelt in John McCain’s political biography Worth the Fighting For: The Education of an American Maverick, and the Heroes Who Inspired Him. This on the same day the Obama campaign releases an ad suggesting John McCain is out of touch as times have changed since he was first elected to Congress in 1982.

That year, John McCain was 46 years old, just one year younger than Barack Obama is now — and two years older than his running mate, Sarah Palin.

The two greatest Republican presidents of the last century, Theodore Roosevelt and Ronald Reagan, were respectively, the youngest and the oldest men to serve in that office.

Thanks for telling me how to search this blog.
There doesn’t appear to be, even, a substantial mention of Sarah Palin here until the end of August, when she was announced. My question: How is anyone to take seriously all this support for her, when so, so many of the people supporting her really don’t know much about her?
Second, even the early posts on here were looking for Democrats to ‘attack’ her. Why was that?
Finally, don’t you think she should know what the Bush Doctrine is? Can we all agree on that?
Otherwise, I see the gay cheering for Palin as the conservative counterpoint to (much of) the gay cheering of Hillary in the same light: just some cheap diva contest on a stage at a gay bar….which one do I think is more fierce?!!?! And this has nothing to do with qualifications for the national and international stages.

Exactly what IS the Bush Doctrine, jimmy? I’ll appreciate your enunciating a brief description of it. I understand that the Bush Doctrine and it alone is responsible for the terrible depression the U.S. has suffered for the past 7 years, and probably for the even worse depression of the past 2 years, but I’ve never actually heard how that all worked.

As I understand it, Gov. Palin did a pretty good job of describing it. But then, I haven’t seen the interview.

Jimmy, what does your comment have to do with the post to which you attach it?

As to our not having posted about her, well, perhaps you should root through my e-mail and see hat I’ve referenced her frequently in e-mails, generally saying she’s be ideal for 2012 or ’16

John McCain is running for President, he’s old, the post is about presidential greatness coming at any age, but I have no idea what makes McCain possibly great, specifically and especially since he picked Sarah Palin for VP. So I was asking about the groundswell of support for her among self-proclaimed conservatives. While my questions weren’t answered directly, they were: she’s no good for now and she’s years away from being ideal. Thanks. (I would never ‘root through’ your email. Other people might.)

And, this post is part of a blog called GAYPatriot, so I’m also wondering: What’s so great about McCain and Palin specifically for gays?

Yeah, part of the reason John McCain can’t use a computer… severe injuries inflicted by his Vietnamese captors.

    Stay Classy, Obama campaign.
