Note: Just a reminder that all opinions expressed in posts authored by me at Gay Patriot and my own blog are mine alone. Bruce and Dan are free to give their own comments on the following story as they see fit. Or not.
I usually ignore taunts directed my way by liberals bloggers, especially ones I’ve never even heard of before like NGblog. This particular blogger is practically giddy about the “outing” of Mark Buse, Senate chief of staff to Republican presidential nominee John McCain. However, since I noticed the link and have a little time tonight, why not?
My reaction in a nutshell: meh.
Buse doesn’t seem to me to have been closeted, but as far as I’m aware his sexual orientation was known by family, friends and co-workers. Most importantly, in this specific instance, to his boss: Senator McCain, who appears to not have cared at all. The only ‘story’ here is once again unhinged liberal activists are engaging in gutter politics, a regular practice for them. Did they really think I needed yet another example of why the Democrats and their rabid partisans need to be kept out of the White House? Naaaah. Thanks, but such was completely unnecessary. Oh and the Religious Right folks we both sharply criticize are having a bout of Palinmania at the moment, so sorry guys but I doubt this will even register a blip on their radar. Nice try though.
Contrary to the accusations of NG and other lib bloggers, McCain is hardly “anti-gay” or “homophobic”. He is indeed a man from a different era in terms of gay rights, which readers at both blogs know I have had no problems harshly disagreeing with. John McCain isn’t perfect by any means but something he seems to have, which these folks clearly lack, is personal integrity and character. Mr. Buse’s “ex”, who helped “out” him, would seem to be missing such attributes as well, which is probably why he is his “ex”. If McCain harbored any animus towards homosexuals I seriously doubt Buse would have been employed by him for so long. I also doubt that McCain would have taken such a public stand in support of former Congressman Jim Kolbe or Neil Giuliano, the former mayor of Tempe, Arizona, who currently heads GLAAD.
So my reaction again is simply, meh. These folks are not worth further attention. I regret that Mr. Buse has to endure this nonsense, but he is a big boy and can take care of himself in the political world. Let them have a jolly good time thinking that they’ve ‘exposed’ McCain’s ‘hypocrisy’ while their antics will repulse most voters. This also does nothing to answer our main concern with Obama: his complete lack of experience and inability to effectively act as Commander-in-Chief. So have ‘fun’ for now boys and we’ll see you at the polls in November!
— John (Average Gay Joe)
[UPDATE FROM BRUCE (GayPatriot): I couldn’t agree with John more. Who cares. My only additional thought to add is this: “Why do Liberals hate gays so much that they constantly trash our community?”  Very self-loathing if you ask me.]
I saw an interview of Mark Buse, which was part of a Judy Woodruff PBS piece on John McCain the person. It was clear to me that Mark Buse is Gay. What is also clear to me was that John McCain doesn’t care (Buse has been McCain’s Senate Chief of Staff for 17 years) and you could see the loyalty and affection that Buse expressed about McCain.
McCain, like Palin, are live and let live people and judge people by the content of their character and whom they are as a person and not whom they sleep with. I am sure it has not mattered one iota to John McCain and I go by his conduct in how he interacts with Gay people. Clearly, if McCain were a homophobe, then Buse would not be on MCain’s staff, no less his Chief of Staff.
So, let’s see if you are conservative or in the case of Buse’s ex partner, gutless, you get outed and mocked by leftists…If you are liberal and leftist and in the closet, then well you are celebrated and protected…..what happened to we are all each other’s brethren and in our community people shoot at each other rather then stand up for each other and stand with each other.
Clearly, Buse has been an extremely effective Chief of Staff and from what I can see in his interview a geniune, down to earth good guy with a hunk of cuteness and sweetness to him and clearly he is proud to be Senator McCain’s Chief of Staff and I have no doubt that Senator McCain is proud to have Mark Buse as his Chief of Staff and a friend of 17 plus years.
let’s see how the MSM shows their true ugliness and vile nature now. I have no doubt they won’t disappoint on that count.
yes massa, i do whatever you say, said the tacit gay.
Thanks for some common sense on this “outing”. It reminds me of the exchange between Cheney and Edwards in the 2004 election about Mary Cheney.
michael,
it’s better you wait for the talking points to come out from the DNC.
you’re barely coherent enough as is.
The left thinks the right is so horrified and/or terrified of teh gheys. And they imagine that just knowing McCain employed a pillow-biter will send religious conservatives into a tizzy and make them abandon the ticket.
Religious conservatives are actually much more live-and-let-live than they give us a credit for. But the left lives in an echo chamber that only amplifies their stereotypes, and they refuse to get outside of them.
If Barry has any brains at all, he’s probably wishing his “supporters” would just shut the f— up.
With every dirty trick, they demonstrate just how wicked they really are… putting these people in power (they already have too much) would be a calamity.
I think most conservatives will see this as just another in a long line of sleazy tricks and just dig in deeper. Casual voters and moderates will come to see just how nasty the left is and vote for McCain who is basically a decent guy.
I used to think people like “michael” were just ignorant (or stupid). Now, I think they’re evil. (Lefties have been branding conservatives as “evil” or “mental” for years – but the pathology on the left is pretty obvious.)
I don’t get it.
“Buse doesn’t seem to me to have been closeted, but as far as I’m aware his sexual orientation was known by family, friends and co-workers. Most importantly, in this specific instance, to his boss: Senator McCain, who appears to not have cared at all.”
Then you go on a tirade about “unhinged liberal activists engaging in gutter politics” and “I regret that Mr. Buse has to endure this nonsense.”
Hello? You confirm that Buse is open about his orientation. How can you then fly off the handle about how nasty and mean people are for simply acknowledging it? How can you claim victimhood and martyrdom if nothing happened?
Because, Scott, Buse’s personal life as an EMPLOYEE of the Senator should remain just that: personal.
The outers are engaging in gay-baiting – just as loathsome as race-baiting. The intent is NOT simply acknowledging his orientation… it’s to harass the man and attempt to put McCain in a corner (which I don’t think will happen).
Funny how the use of racism and homophobia in political campaigns seems to be a staple of the oh-so tolerant left.
I’ve been leaning towards voting for Obama (unethusiastically so) but this story is a plus for McCain. Whatever he has to say politically to quell certain conservative groups (like a politician does), he obviously has no problem with gay men personally.
Hmm.
Makes me think even more of McCain. He’s clearly not a homophobe.
What was the point?
What’s next? Shock and dismay to discover that actual women are working for McCain, despite his views on fetal rights? Horror to find african-americans working for McCain, despite his intention to appoint Supreme Court justices who will repeal the Emancipation Proclamation? (Just ask Whoopie!)
The bigotry and thuggishness of the left never ceases to amaze and horrify me.
Dare to be openly Republican as a gay man, and watch blogs (can the media be far behind?) publish the details of your personal life — as reported by a bitter ex. Fabulous.
Quick, everyone, time for our daily dose of Two Minutes’ Hate.
Not only does McCain have persons with vaginas (ew) working for him…they get paid better than the males.
test
Obviously. And thus the Democrats’ main problem is succinctly articulated almost as well as Harry Reid’s recent “no one knows what to do”.
you gay conservatives are so weird and such a plantation mentality.
Funny how liberals are so quick to accuse others of racism, yet love to employ racist metaphors themselves. Curious that.
Try thinking sometime with your other head, Michael.
Best point EVER:
“which is probably why he is his ‘ex'”
That’s right liberals. Sit there at your computer desk cackling and sipping on your Appletini’s. All. Alone. But your Mommy still loves you.
John,
I believe here is when we point out that Democrats as a whole, have the most experience with Plantations.
Ohioans, OTOH have a long tradition of burning the plantations down and freeing the slaves 😉
I think the opinion of the middle on this issue is more important then either extreme. This election isn’t about the far left or the far right. It is about middle America. Middle America has plenty of gay/lesbian brothers/sisters/uncle/aunts/etc. They don’t want a party in power that uses a person’s sexuality as a weapon or a shield, they just want people to be valued for what they bring to the table.
If Mr. Obama is so homo-friendly and if a person’s sexuality is such a big issue, then why doesn’t he take out an add in the New York Times and list the names and sexual orientation of all his senior staff?
To “answer (y)our main concern with Obama: his complete lack of experience and inability to effectively act as Commander-in-Chief:::” lf you are indeed preferring Palin, who will be the next President should McCain got elected due to his age and health problems and temper and all documented tantrums both in print, video, et al… Well; neither Obama or Palin have a “complete lack of experience” but Palin does have very much less experience than 0bama in most things, -hockey or motherhood belong to Palin- and anyone with enough common sense will proclam her unfit to lead the US , she is the token Clinton-like female in McCain´s B-movie, and to quote your own words, to you and all the rest of Silver Daddy McCain worshipers:
!…have ‘fun’ for now boys and we’ll see you at the polls in November!”
the party that keeps you from your civil liberties; you keep on sucking up to. “If ye love wealth greater than liberty, the tranquility of servitude
greater than the animating contest for freedom, go home from us
in peace. We seek not your counsel, nor your arms. Crouch down
and lick the hand that feeds you; May your chains set lightly upon
you, and may posterity forget that ye were our countrymen.”
michael – Yawn.
Could you possibly have anything of interest to say, instead of this incoherent babble?
Alex, if you’re interested, I made a list of the VP’s of the last one hundred years, and documented their depth of experience coming into office. Palin and Obama are not that far apart.
lf you are indeed preferring Palin, who will be the next President should McCain got elected due to his age and health problems and temper and all documented tantrums both in print, video, et al
Unfortunately for you, Alex, McCain has to die first, which is hardly guaranteed; however, if we elect Obama, we will be guaranteed that someone who is as inexperienced as you claim Palin to be will be President.
Furthermore, Palin does not support terrorism or terrorists who attack children and firebomb their houses; Obama puts them in charge of educational initiatives for children. “Common sense” would indicate that Obama doesn’t have any.
Hmmm. So this is “hypocrisy,” but rabidly supporting a candidate who wants to play huggy-kissy with regimes that hang gays is . . . what, exactly?
cowards and whimps. you deny who you are and don’t have the balls to stand up and demand equality. enough said.
Oh michael, please. You’re the one who denies who you are: a Nazi-style eugenicist.
Here’s michael calling Palin’s child “genetically defective†and implying that she is a bad person for not having practiced Nazi-style eugenics on the child:
Here’s the link: http://www.gaypatriot.net/?comments_popup=3728#comment-300382
Note michael’s use of the term “genetically defective”. Later on, the dolt figured out that the most common form of Down Syndrome is chromosomal (trisomy 21) more than genetic, using the terms technically. But at the time, “genetically defective” was where michael’s head was at and what he faulted Palin for. Long story short: michael, to the best of his (weak) knowledge and ability, faulted Palin for failing to practice Nazi-style eugenics.
Now let’s watch you twist and turn, michael, as you “deny who you are”.
LOL…..actually, michael, it’s because we are secure in who and what we are and don’t need the gov’ment to give us special treatment.
The problem with gays like you, michael, can be summed up as this: you believe that you were fired from your last copywriting and editing job, not because of your misspellings, punctuation errors, and inability to use capital letters, but because your manager hates gay people.
Since your view of reality is based on your own inability to admit your failings or mistakes, you insist that everyone hates you. It’s not the unprotected sex you chose to have with fifteen different men that gave you HIV; it’s because Ronald Reagan didn’t use “AIDS” in a sentence fast enough.
someone needs to go back to biosci101

LMAO
Self description.
Yes, you are a coward and a wimp. So terrified of life that you declare youself a victim in order to justify your own inadequacies and incompetencies, and a world class pussy who cant stand up for himself but is so monumentally insecure that he needs to abuse the law to force other people to approve of him.
I have equality Michael. I am free to live my life however I wish so long as it doesnt infringe on others rights. (except of course for the liberties liberals are constantly robbing me of) You are an inferior pathetic victim, and no amount of legislation will ever change that.
Arghhhh, I really do HATE the filter here.
samuel adams was right.
Now michael is reduced to talking to himself. 🙂
I’ll rub it in a bit more. *michael* said that Palin:
Thus *getting it wrong*. Indeed, michael, in addition to un-learning your immoral and evil Nazi-style eugencism, you do certainly need to back to Bio 101. ROTFLMAO
(typo, “eugenicism” or simply “eugenics”)
well hun, eugenics nazi style, is not the same as suffering unto a child a trisomy. and that”s why you are a dolt.
Ah, I see mikey’s point. If he was possessed of an extra chromosome that made him gay, he’d self abort.
But since he wants to weasle out of his own trap, he will contonue to protest you’re using his words against him.
Like most democrats
Bob Barr ’08. Oh, and let me add this: For all the talk about how gay GOPer’s “support laws that adversely affect themselvesâ€, many left-leaning gay rights groups back extreme (sometimes downright unconstitutional) gun bans. Isn’t working to criminalize the ownership of something which could help a small and sometimes violently oppressed group of people (LGBTs) against the attacks of certain bigots (homophobes), um, I don’t know, “supporting laws that adversely affect themselvesâ€?
not my fault that ILC is scientifically challenged.
as are you.
michael, you’re still missing the point. *Can you even read*?
*Here it is once more*.. *****You****** had said that Palin:
Thus *getting it wrong*. Indeed, michael, in addition to un-learning your immoral and evil Nazi-style eugenicism, you certainly do need to go back to Bio 101. ROTFLMAO 🙂
P.S. Sorry to keep harping on this, folks, but it is kind of fun to watch the impenetrability of michael’s doltishness. He might be the stupidest person I’ve yet encountered on GayPatriot – one who can’t even grasp his critic’s point when it’s spelled out in bold print, slowly.
do you realise how absolutely stupidly you appear??? how ignorant!!!
but them again: no brain no pain.
ND30 says: “The problem with gays like you, michael, can be summed up as this: you believe that you were fired from your last copywriting and editing job, not because of your misspellings, punctuation errors, and inability to use capital letters, but because your manager hates gay people.

I am sorry but despite whatever one’s political persuasion may be this statement is really offensive. People do encounter and are damaged by job discrimination. We can have honest debates about how often this occurs, what the remedy should be etc.. But to dismiss all job discrimination as simply being a screen for alleged incompetence is simply factually inaccurate vile. Likewise, the suggestion the suggestion that people with HIV are just irresponsible is simply vile.
I am sorry but you really are a hateful asshole.
no hatefull asshole here. you just act like niggas preking.
“If ye love wealth greater than liberty, the tranquility of servitude
greater than the animating contest for freedom, go home from us
in peace. We seek not your counsel, nor your arms. Crouch down
and lick the hand that feeds you; May your chains set lightly upon
you, and may posterity forget that ye were our countrymen.â€
and that was said only two hundred tears ago: niggas!!!
Ah, Brendan; I figure that if you really cared about job discrimination against gays, you’d be screaming at Obama and the DNC for practicing it.
Instead, gays like you are screaming at McCain for having the audacity to actually hire, keep, and promote a gay person as his chief of staff. Horrors!
And as for HIV, let’s see; the two ways the vast and overwhelming majority of people in this day and age get it are through unprotected promiscuous sex and through exchanging dirty needles. Which of those qualifies as responsible behavior?
Finally, what I find amusing is that Brendan is “offended” by the suggestion that a gay person was fired for job performance, or that a person got HIV due to their choice to have promiscuous sex.
You want to know what a “hateful asshole” is, Brendan? It’s a gay person who shrieks that investigating and punishing them for sexually harassing their coworkers and subordinates is the result of “homophobia and sexism”. It’s a gay person with HIV who knowingly has unprotected sex with others regardless of their HIV status.
But of course, you don’t consider any of that to be wrong.
NDT: Wow, the story about the fire chief made me think of what Savage calls the Pink Hand.
Is that cheif the same one that made two straight firemen go to a gay pride parade?
Nope; that was a different hatemongering lesbian who thought her sexual orientation allowed her to harass others.
Now the latest news out is that Barney Frank was so hooked on “affordable housing” because he was having sex with the Fannie Mae executive in charge of such things.
