MSM’s Missing Stories of Obama
For a news media obsessed about the progeny of the Republican vice presidential nominee, you’d think they’d do some sleuthing around in the affairs of the Democratic presidential nominee.
Yesterday, Powerline’s Scott Johnson linked Tony Blankiey’s excellent article on the media’s “collaboration with Barack Obama:”
The mainstream media ruthlessly and endlessly repeat any McCain gaffes while ignoring Obama gaffes. You have to go to weird little Web sites to see all the stammering and stuttering that Obama needs before getting out a sentence fragment or two. But all you see on the networks is an eventually clear sentence from Obama. You don’t see Obama’s ludicrous gaffe that Iran is a tiny country and no threat to us. Nor his 57 American states gaffe. Nor his forgetting, if he ever knew, that Russia has a veto in the U.N. Nor his whining and puerile “come on” when he is being challenged. This is the kind of editing one would expect from Goebbels’ disciples, not Cronkite’s.
If the MSM were truly interested in reporting the news, we might see the media doing the following:
- Citing efforts by John McCain & other Republicans to reform Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac in order to prevent a meltdown like the one taking place now on Wall Street.
- Asking why Democrats led by Barney Frank and Christopher Dodd thwarted those reform efforts.
- Reporting that Obama was one of the top recipient’s of Fannie Mae largesse.
- Pointing out that Obama has run more negative ads than has John McCain and has misrepresented (i.e., lied about) John McCain’s record in many of them (as well as in his stump speeches).
- Probing Barack Obama misrepresentations of his relationship with unrepentant terrorist Bill Ayers. [UPDATE: Peter Kirsanow writes that the "attempt to cover-up the extent of Sen. Obama's ties to William Ayers should have journalists salivating. This is a big story that, so far, the press seems determined to avoid."]
- Investigating that relationship.
- Making as much ruckus ties between a PR firm with ties to Democratic Party and anti-Palin “hit” videos as they did about ties between Karl Rove and the Swift Boat Veterans in 2004.
- Covering the ethics problems of Democratic House Ways and Means Committee Chairman Charlie Rangel. (Okay, okay, I realize this isn’t related to Obama, bt it’s a big story which hurts the Democrats and which the MSM is all but ignoring.)
These stories would help Americans get a better picture of the Democratic nominee, so that we might better choose the right man to preside over this nation for the next four years.
Please me know if you think there are other stories which the media should be reporting and, if appropriate, I’ll add them to the list.
UPDATE: Other stories the media should cover about Obama-Biden:
- Requesting that Biden release more than one year of his earmark requests.
- Exploring why Obama hasn’t released “paperwork related to grants to distributed by then-state-legislator Obama (records from 1997 to 2000 aren’t available); his state legislative office records (which he says may have been thrown out); . . . a specific list of law clients.” (Jim Geraghty has more questions at that link.)
- Exposing his threats to TV stations which run ads critical of him.
- Asking him how his campaign succeeded in removing all the names from the Democratic primary ballot in his first bid for state Senate.
- Looking into his relationship with the radical group ACORN.
- Pointing out the former Fannie Mae chairman Jim Johnson still plays a “behind-the-scenes role” in the Obama campaign.
UP-UPDATE:
- Asking Obama if he did anything to prevent his campaign’s national finance chair from allowing religious leaders to fete “world’s leading Islamic terrorist and Jew-hater” in a hotel she owns.

Probably because he never actually said that Iran wasn’t a threat to us. He said it was a tiny threat compared to the USSR. Factcheck

torrent’s comment on a manipulated quote actually brings home the point. McCain was hammered on the, “100 years in Iraq” comment, when the media new damn well that if you read/hear the whole comment, the point is much different. I haven’t seen the same thing happen with Obama, and can’t believe that he hasn’t said some great mis-quotable things. And how about the rest of the Dems? Reid says that no one knows what to do about the financial crisis, and the media doesn’t question his leadership ability at all. Pelosi doesn’t know that natural gas and oil come from the same places with the same kind of drilling…and no one in the media questions her ability to formulate an energy policy. Not too long ago Dodd or Frank said that Fanny and Freddy were fine and should be allowed to expand their portfolios of turd loans. We aren’t seeing that quote all over the TV, just McCain’s out of context “fundamentals” quote.

as to MSM media stories (beside the Iran story, Nobama also mentioned that other little countries were Cuba and Venezuela…let’s see Venezuela is engaging in naval military operations with Russia and Cuba is stealing our offshore oil with Communist China and small little Iran is engaging in international terrorrism all over the world…
other stories the MSM media is that Bill Ayres goes back to Nobama’s first state Senate campaign and they are long time friends.
let’s not forget the Fannie Mae/Freddie Mac scandals the Democrats caused and going back to Jimmy Carter and Bill Clinton and Barney Frank and Chuckles Schumer by demanding that the Glass Steagle Act (forgive the spelling) be amended to allow the Community Redevelopment Act include sub prime mortgages which led to and created this Wall Street mess.
Where are our Gay liberal brothers and sisters when Nobama continue to court homophobes like Donny McClurkin and others to campaign for him.
or that David Axelrod is a thug of the highest order and all the Chicago like the Illinois Senate President that put Nobama’s name on state legislation when the Dems took control of the Illinois Legislature (remember how Nobama used all that legislation to say he was on the cutting edge of change) to advance Nobama’s US Senate campaign and with the eye that he would run for President…and what about Nobama’s could care less about late term abortions and babies born in botched abortions yet it was fine with him if the babies were left in dumpsters to die.
I will never count on the MSM to ever tell the truth, just their version of the truth to shove down our throats……
let’s not forget the zillion gaffes by Joe Biden (if Sarah Palin said anything that Joe Motormouth Biden did we would be hearing about it in the MSM 24/7)

Oh, how could I forget! The man has made “I am my brothers keeper” a major theme of his campaign, yet HIS brother lives in abject poverty in a shack in kenya on a dollar a month. I think thats enormously relevant.
And for that matter so is the fact that both he and Biden barely give any of their sizeable wealth to charity,well less than the national average. (I believe the mccains give something along the lines of 26% to charity) I think thats relevant especially from people who claim others are not giving their fare share.

His Medical records too! Howard Deans brother heads a PAC that is coming out with a commercial going after McCains spot of skin cancer and asking why he hasnt released his medical records (he has, in full, for the press to look at, but not keep) yet Obama hasnt released anything. Hes admittedly a drug user, what is he trying to hide? Addiction? crack? meth? didnt quit when he said he did? still smoking pot? hes also a smoker. ephesema? Mental issues? Why does he get a pass on all these things

Obama rails at “injecting Presidential politics into the financial crisis” while accusing McCain of “injecting Presidential politics into the financial crisis.” Score one for Obama who successfully injects Presidential politics in the financial crisis. Then Blarney O’Frank says everything was moving along swimmingly until McCain showed up. Score one for Blarney. A regular Democrat talking points tag-team player.
Obama said he would stay close to the phone and they could call him if they needed him. Bush propelled him to Washington. Apparently, he wasn’t needed. He didn’t walk away with a deal and a gold star on his “wee-wee chart.” Typically, he called for “compromise” of the Democrat sort: “shut up and line up.”
Once again, the Audacity of Hope Fairy didn’t fly in and pixie dust the gridlock.

And we should add the fact that Obama’s puppet boy Biden was caught flat-out lying this week about his plan for Iraq.
If you want to see how in the tank the media is, that’s the best example. Joe Biden, who pushed, championed, and got passed a Senate resolution demanding that Iraq be divided, now insists that he never supported Iraq being divided.

We can add one more story….Biden meets with the President of Georgia without allowing any media and that is deemed as one statesman meeting another. Palin does ehsame thing and she is raked over the proverbial coals and called stupid and ignornant and every other pejorative one can think of. No media bias there?
Biden makes a zillion gaffes and its good old Joe…..if Palin said half of what Biden has said in this campaign she would have been railroaded worse then what they are doing to her now.

There is also the “garden” in south chicago that Obama got $100,000.00 for and $65,000.00 went to a campaign worker’s wife. The garden was never built.

AE, I saw that McCain-melanoma campaign ad this morning you mentioned. It is has to be the sleaziest, most underhanded political ad that the Democrats –it’s done by ScreaminHowieDean’s brother– have put forward this season… and that’s quite a low bar to get under. Of course, the upshot is that McCain is damaged property and it’s only moments before Sarah is President and Leader of the Free World.
The Democrats really miscalculated on this one.
As a 6 yr melanoma survivor, I literally sweat going in to see the docs every 3 months for a check up. There’s no accomodation in your head or heart when you know those cells are floating in your blood stream looking for a place to grow… melanoma is a tenacious deadly bastard.
For the Democrats to use McCain’s melanoma as a campaign issue will backfire on them. There are about 1,000,000 new cases of skin cancer diagnosed each year -about 63k are melanoma. Anyone with skin cancer gets the “fear of melanoma” speech from their doc –so there should be a lot of people in America who have a new reason to be angry with Obama and the Democrat’s sleazy campaigning.
I just hope Hannity or Limbaugh add this new low to the litany of sins coming from the Temple of Barack. And harp it to Nov 4th.
