I don’t know about LA, Dan, but we have a drive-in here in Lakeland. I think a drive-in/tailgate party would be fun, but I can’t convince anybody I know to go for it.

Admission is $4.00 and you get a beer and a huge bag of popcorn for what a beer costs at the bars. You could have a good night almost less than it costs to just buy a ticket at a regular theater. Even more so if you BYOB under the radar.

Just another reason you should come to Florida.

Mitchel and AE, you both are right, by becoming a conservative – Zucker has made himself and outside. And although Airplane is 30 years old – it was much sharper and edgier.

There were many times in this movie I felt like I was being hit over the head with a ton of bricks, when one brick would have been enough.

LCRW, I really like to support conservative films, but not sure it is worth the cost that you describe. I volunteered yesterday at the Palin event in Los Angeles (ahh, what a great experience). One of my fellow volunteers was the SIL of Meceveety, the producer of this movie. He is now making a more serious conservative movie. So for every successful conservative movie – more funding and acceptance opens up for further development of conservative movies.

Up here in Seattle, the movie is playing out in the boondocks, pockets of Red in a darkening sea of Blue.

Here you drive 10-15 miles out, paying nearly $10 per ticket. If you get popcorn and soda, its easily $20 per head.

Is the movie worth it or should we wait until its on NetFlix?

I havent seen it yet, but my impression of other stuff Zucker has done (the half hour News Hour & that commercial he did during the 2004 election) is that if he had done AIRPLANE! by himself, it wouldnt have been anywhere near as funny.

Often we scorn Hollywood, but they have got it down, they know how to make movies – if you are an outsider – something gets lost.

Ya, but Zucker isn’t an outsider. I think the reason he may have gotten lost, according to some, is that it was THE CONSERVATIVE FILM, so he tried to put so much in it and bash liberals at every turn, that it didn’t flow as well as it could have with a more focused plot.

DaveO, you are right, that is my analysis as well. A few funny moments -a good idea.

Often we scorn Hollywood, but they have got it down, they know how to make movies – if you are an outsider – something gets lost. I had the same feeling about the TV show _ the half hour news hour. I really really wanted to like it (also by Zucker) – it was overkill on the slapstick humor – a little more subtlety would go a long way.

What did you all think of the movie? I saw it last night and wasn’t terribly impressed. While the film had a few good moments, it just wasn’t that funny. I think the idea of the movie was a lot better than the execution.

Yes it was a lot of fun and I hope we can do something like this again.

While the movie probably will not garner any oscars it was a hoot to see the left lampooned on screen. Was a nice counterpoint to some of the junk that passes for entertainment coming out of Hollywood today.

I would assume with a little more advance notice we could get an even bigger turn out the next time.

I watched it with some members of the editorial staff for the paper. I thought it was great, but I was disappointed they cut Barack out, though I kind of expected it.
