Joe Solmonese Calls Palin “Caribou Barbie”

October 9, 2008 by GayPatriotWest

In a previous post, I noted how that (D) after a candidate’s name renders him “immune to criticism from gay political organizations.”  Well, it seems that an (R) after a candidate’s name opens her up to censure, misrepresentation and ridicule from Joe Solmonese, the president of the largest such organization, the Human Rights Campaign (HRC).

This is a guy who invites a man with a record of vicious anti-Republican rhetoric onto his radio show to discuss the Republican National Convention.  And now he calls the Republican vice presidential nominee “Caribou Barbie” (about 8 minutes into the second video).

Can you imagine the reaction if the head of conservative organization had said something similarly demeaning about a Democratic woman at a major event? Solmonese made this comment at HRC’s Annual National Dinner this past weekend.

His speech was full of other such mean-spirited barbs against Republicans.  It’s clear that Solmonese is a Democratic partisan first and foremost.

It’s time that our community recognize HRC for what it is and call out its president for his narrow partisanship.  Under Solmonese, HRC has become little more than a gay auxiliary of the Democratic National Committee.

    Repeating my earlier comment.

I take Palin-hatred personally. When the left hates on Sarah Palin, in a way, they are hating on me.

Like Sarah Palin, I am one of those people who’s played by the rules; I got an education, I stayed out of trouble, I stayed out of debt, I avoided drama. Like Sarah Palin, I started out in a lower middle class family, and by working hard and playing by the rules, I’ve gotten a foothold on a decent arguably upper-middle class lifestyle.

I feel like the thing that sets the left apart from the right is that the left wants people to succeed (to a degree, anyway) without following the rules. Those of us who have delayed gratification, and used self-discipline to get where were are really resent these spoiled lefties spitting on our values and trying to promote people whose lives are centered on instant gratification and self-indulgence.

An attack on Sarah Palin is an attack on me, and every other hard-working American who’s just trying to do the right things.

As insults go, “Caribou Barbie” isn’t that bad. It would be about the same as referring to Obama as “Uhbama” or “Snobama;” except Obama does say “Uh” alot, he has acted like a snob at times, but Palin is not a plastic doll. The difference is, no one goes on TV and calls him that and gets away with using a derisive nickname for Obama. It’s the disparity of treatment that’s the problem.

Marine Cpl Matt Sanchez has a pretty interesting take on this in his upcoming book “Gay Jihad”. The liberal elites who run the gay organizations are more interested in raking in lobbyist dollars than serving the community. People like Solmonese are simply corrupt opportunists feeding off the ignorance of the average gay voter.

Yes, because if they ever admitted that equality was achieved, they would be out of their easy, lucrative, low-risk, high-profile jobs, wouldn’t they?

You think that after 15 years in the wilderness during Republican rule, with the Democrats now closing in on an ironclad stranglehold of Washington, that HRC is going to back off? Are you kidding me?! Initiatives they’ve been working on for over a decade would be within reach. A sitting President who will sign them, a House and Senate that would pass them – all obstacles cleared.

    That’s the goal.

The goal is not to get people things without going by the rules, the goal is to destroy the rules, which led to the creation of the single greatest country the world has ever known, built upon the ideals of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. (Of course as opposed to tyranny, subjugaiton, and the implementation of five-year-plans.) Obama is willin gtpo meet with Amadinnerjacket Chavez, etal, becasue he is eager to show the world that the US is now aligned with them. Obama marches in lockstep with people like Chavez, full of fervor to change it all to their way – and consolidate power worldwide. Of cours he’ll meet, he has nothing to fear from them!!!! He is in his element with those freaks.

Well, I couldn’t have said it better..so I will just add “ditto” and then some!!!

If Sarah Palin were a liberal Democrat she would be idolized by the Left and the fact that she and her family are self starters, hard working, earned their way through college (which I can relate…having done that myself with student loans and paid them off and live within my means and not above them) and don’t take the kool aid, etc.

As has been said, the HRC are self perpetuating and do nothing to achieve equality nor look at any other view point but their own.

Whatever one thinks of Larry Kramer, he has said that the HRC are fools and take our money to perpetuate their own existence and do nothing for our community. On that note, Larry Kramer is dead on correct.

One of the dangers of insulting people you don’t understand is that you don’t really know what things to say.

I love the nickname “Caribou Barbie” — the qualities that make Solmonese regard this as a cutting insult are qualities I like and admire. Just as I suspect calling Obama an elitist makes him purr in secret.

I’m also not the one releasing slimy web ads (that McCain doesn’t have the courage to run on the air) about the “judgement” of Obama or riling up my supporters (as they shout “Kill Him!” “Terrorist!” or “Off With His Head!”). I’ll leave such subtle race-baiting to the Palin-McCain (sic) ticket.

No, torrentprime, you’re the one making slimy Web accusations that Barack Obama doesn’t have the courage to put on the air about Trig Palin not being Sarah Palin’s child or that Todd Palin is having incestuous sex with his daughters.
And as for your race-baiting claim, remember that Barack Obama supports giving millions of dollars to people who, aside from firebombing houses with children in them, building nail bombs to set off at military dances packed with hundreds of people, and blowing up police stations, also like to teach this philosophy in schools:

Convinced that all whites were born tainted with the original sin of “skin privilege,” the fighting brigade of the New Left internalized racialist thinking as hatred of their own whiteness. “All white babies are pigs,” declared one Weatherman. On one occasion the feminist poet Robin Morgan was breast-feeding her son at the offices of the radical journal Rat. A Weatherwoman saw this and told her, “You have no right to have that pig male baby.” “How can you say that?” Morgan asked. “What should I do?” “Put it in the garbage,” the Weatherwoman answered.

Do you support that, torrentprime? Because Barack Obama does.

Here in California, voters are going to enthusiastically give Barry its 55 electoral votes… Cali has “given” the nation Senators Boxer and Feinstein; Pelosi, Waxman, and so on.

And Cali’s oh-so enlightened electorate is likely to pass Prop 8 (some will vote for prop 8 for for noble reasons; others just because they don’t like gays).

Which party calls the other “racist” and “bigots” to make DAMN sure the blacks stay on the plantation? Who pretends to love gays, but toss them under the bus as soon as it’s politically advantageous? Who pretends to love blacks for votes and cash, but tosses them under the bus as soon as it’s politically advantageous? Who teaches the blacks that they’ll NEVER get into schools or jobs based on their own merits, but instead on the color of their skin or gender? Who was it that worried if Comrade Obama was “black enough”? Who was it that put forth the idea that Comrade Obama was a drug dealer?

I could go on, but I think you should understand by now that I know douchebags like you. And even if it were true, that I am a bigot, I’d much rather be a bigot than a radical Socialist traitor lower than a snake’s ass in a wagon rut.

Well said. The original liberals (classical liberals) who had founded our country wanted to erase artificial / permanent / unjust class distinctions. But today’s left-liberals want to erase all distinctions, because they are fundamentally opposed to “growing up” and to the whole concept of exercising moral judgment.

Google “Evan Sayet”; he gave a great talk on it that people should review annually, just to remind themselves.

ILC, erase all distinctions? It seems today’s left-liberals want to exaggerate them.

OK, I see what you’re saying so I have to rephrase a little. They want to erase all distinctions that matter. They want to erase the idea that anybody is ever better than anybody else in reality, or that anything ever matters in life more than anything else.

So, for example, they take an authentic hero like McCain and insist that he’s only “the privileged son of admirals”; that he called his wife names; that he had an affair that he never had; that his service meant nothing and his endurance in Hanoi meant nothing; that he must be kooky; blah blah blah. Their goal is beyond defeating him politically. It’s emotional, moral and spiritual: they’re trying to persuade themselves and the world that there are no authentic heroes and no values worth suffering or dying for.

Now, it’s a complicated game and one of their many (and best) strategems is to raise up *false* values and heroes, muddying the waters. So, you will see times when leftists *are* making certain distinctions and raising up their own alleged heroes. For example, as you imply, they’re endlessly raising distinctions of race or other forms of identity. Notice, however, that (1) they invariably raise false and stupid distinctions, and (2) their doing so serves to *take away* from distinctions that should matter – or that matter in reality.

So, for example, leftists’ distinctions take away from such meaningful and important distinctions as honest vs. dishonest (think the Clintons, or rich Fannie Mae executives); productive vs. lazy; earned vs. unearned; courageous (think of our veterans again) vs. cowardly; admirable vs. worthless (think multiculturalism); etc. Leftists want to destroy all valid and positive rules and distinctions, substituting invalid ones that will (a) muddy the waters, and (b) give them power.
