People! Remember the Double Standard! If a Democrat has Actual gay sex with an Actual minor (Gerry Studds) he stays in office for 30 years. If a Republican has pretend sex with a non-minor (Foley) he’s gone.

I read recently that the messages between Foley and the page were not sexually explicit. Also, my understanding was that the page was a legal adult (correct me if I’m wrong).

Hey, this could all be solved if America’s Speaker Nancy Pelosi would pick someone with impeccable credentials, a kind of elder statesman, who would be the House’s Ombudsman for Sexual Mores… he could oversee the safety and education of the House Pages, interns, etc.

Maybe Bill Clinton? He’s probably the most likely Democrat when people think “ethics”, “interns”, “sex”.

Shortly after the Foley kerfuffle, there was a story on Glenn Beck about pages screwing each other, breaking curfew, getting involved in criminal mischief etc. The question was raised about how much better the liberals were doing with their “oversight”.

In 2006, the former 10th Congressional Representative from Pennsylvania, Don Sherwood, was also involved in an elicit and sleazy sex scandal. It didn’t get national coverage, either. The Foley story was a national story because it involved congressional pages in the US Capitol. It’s a national program. Of course, the gay angle added to its sensationalism, no doubt.

I think it’s simply that the national press [and their readership] expects repubs to hold higher standards than dems. It’s a reverse discrimination thing, maybe, but to a news editor it becomes more of a “dog bites man” story when a GOP office holder proves to be human. And it’s sort of expected – so not really newsworthy – when democrats turn out to be crooked or “a little wild”. It is just their nature. Snicker, snicker, yawn. But what do I know?

Didn’t Mark Foley spearhead the passage of a law about sex crimes with minors and the Internet? Don’t get yourself all contorted trying to figure out some made up puzzle when the details of the story–or ‘follies,’ as you call them–are right there.

Of course having that R next to his name made the Foley story so attractive to MSM. But I wouldn’t discount the Gay angle here. For all their claims of being accepting, I find that the Libs are so happy to accuse anyone and everyone else of being homophobic. When in actuality I think many of them are uncomfortable with gays – so it is very easy for them to project it onto the evil Republicans.
