Bobby Sherman Democrats

A scene in the movie Dick captures a pop culture phenomenon of the early 1970s.  Arlene Lorenzo (Michelle Williams), as did countless teenage girls across the nation in the Nixon era, plastered images of singer and teen heartthrob, Bobby Sherman, all over her bedroom wall.  (Later, she’d replace Sherman’s pictures with those of Richard Nixon, only to rip those down when she becomes disenchanted with the then-President.)

I often think of the Bobby Sherman phenomenon when I see the iconic image of Barack Obama plastered to the rear window or bumper of a car — or on someone’s T-shirt.  I can’t recall any other political candidate whose bumper sticker featured his image.  Sometimes, it seems more a personality cult than political campaign.

Talking to certain Obama supporters, I really do get the sense this is more a cult than a campaign.  I ask them to name something he has accomplished in office.  Well, he was a community organizer.  What did he do as a community organizer?  He organized his community, comes the tautological reply.  Can you name specific things he’s done.  Silence.

In one case, an Obama supporter actually told me that his accomplishments didn’t matter.  He just liked the way the Democrat spoke, saying the Illinois Senator’s words convinced him he could lead.

Or take a gander at some of the conservatives backing Obama.  They base their support not on their man’s record, but his promise.  Commending the Democrat on his books, his temperament and his intellect, Christopher Buckley writes:

Obama has in him, I think, despite his sometimes airy-fairy ‘We are the people we have been waiting for’ silly rhetoric, the potential to be a good, perhaps even great leader. He is, it seems clear enough, what the historical moment seems to be calling for.

Like my interlocutors who are unfamiliar with Obama’s accomplishments, so too is Buckley. Well, maybe he is so familiar; he just doesn’t cite those accomplishments in his endorsement.

Like teenage girls in the early 1970s, Democrats, some independents and and a handful of conservatives have become infatuated with someone because of his looks and ability to sing, er, speak, reasonably well.  They love him for the image he projects not the ideas he promotes.

I wonder if their fascination will fade if Obama loses. Or if he handles an international crisis the way his running mate expects him to.  Maybe, like Arlene Lorenzo, they’ll tear his pictures down when they fall for another man.

Obama’s Thugocracy Strikes In Pittsburgh

A 20-year-old woman who was robbed at an ATM in Bloomfield was also maimed by her attacker, police said.

Pittsburgh police spokeswoman Diane Richard tells Channel 4 Action News that the victim was robbed at knifepoint on Wednesday night outside of a Citizens Bank near Liberty Avenue and Pearl Street just before 9 p.m.

Richard said the robber took $60 from the woman, then became angry when he saw a McCain bumper sticker on the victim’s car. The attacker then punched and kicked the victim, before using the knife to scratch the letter “B” into her face, Richard said.

Richard said the woman refused medical treatment after the assault, which happened outside the view of the bank’s surveillance cameras.

The robber is described as a dark-skinned black man, 6 feet 4 inches tall, 200 pounds with a medium build, short black hair and brown eyes. The man was wearing dark colored jeans, a black undershirt and black shoes.

So it begins.  I’m shocked that the mere stating of facts in this news report isn’t being branded as “racist”.

First they came for the campaign volunteers, then the opposition party members, then the media, then …

UP-UPDATE (from Dan): Because some readers have raised doubts about the story, I’m busy googling and checking the blogs to try and see if we can confirm this (or contradict it as the case may be).

UP-UP-UPDATE (from Dan): Michelle Malkin is skeptical. Phyllis Chesler is not. Me, well, let me just say, it doesn’t smell right that she refused medical attention.

UP-UP-UP-UPDATE (from Dan): She’s changed her story.  Hmm. . . Something doesn’t smell right.

Stonewall Democrats Concede Their Party is one of Race-Baiting Conspiracy Theorists

A reader forwarded us a strategy memo he got from the Stonewall Democrats which includes this passage:

John McCain’s selection of Sarah Palin demonstrates that the Republican Party is still the party of James Dobson and Pat Robertson.

According to Time Magazine, Wasilla Bible Church is one of the largest and most influential organizations in the “Bible Belt” region of southern Alaska. It’s not surprising then that the city’s former councilmember and mayor Sarah Palin is a member. However, it is alarming that Palin chooses to worship at a church that promotes conversion therapy for “homosexuals” and supported Focus on the Family’s recent “ex-gay” conference Love Won Out. Should be Vice President?

I guess that means, they judge a candidate by her membership in a church, assuming she agrees with everything her church does.

By their very definition, then, the Democratic nominee for president is a race-baiting conspiracy theorist given his twenty-year membership in the Trinity United Church of Christ, then led by a pastor who often issued venomous statements attacking the United States, promoting conspiracy theories and badmouthing white people.  Obama chose to worship at a church that promoted the Palestinian terror organization Hamas in its bullet.

Since the Democratic Party nominated Barack Obama who attended this church, they, by Stonewall Democrats’ own logic, subscribe to those views.

WOW. And some of them accuse us of being self-hating.  How could gay people be party of such a party?

Obama chose to worship at a church that promoted solidarity with Palestinian terrorists and whose pastor badmouthed the United States in general and white people in particular.  Should such a man be President?

MSM More Interested in Palin Gossip than her Record

Commenting on a conversation with an Alaska couple who, like most in the Last Frontier, love their Governor, Jay Nordlinger observes, “the campaign of hate and vilification against her has been one of the most disgusting things I have ever witnessed in American public life.

Various news outlets send teams to Alaska, but to dig up dirt, not report on the governor’s record.  It’s almost as they see themselves as tabloid gossip columnists rather than serious journalists.  They rush to report about the RNC paying for her wardrobe or the state reimbursing her children’s travel, but they ignore her reform record.

I decided to do a little googling to see how much they covered various stories.  All the following are searching via Google News and were performed without quotation marks:

  • “Palin Troopergate” 4,916
  • “Palin daughter pregnant”  1,497
  • “Palin natural gas pipeline” 1,390
  • “Palin creationism” 604
  • “Palin Alaska Oil and Gas Commission” 599
  • “Palin Ruedrich” 21
  • “Palin Renkes” 7

What are Ruedrich and Renkes you may ask?  Well, if the media were doing their job, everyone would know about these two corrupt Republican officials whom Palin exposed and forced to resign.  Randy Ruedrich from the Alaska’s Oil and Gas Commission, Gregg Renkes from his position as state Attorney General.

The media are more interested in her daughter’s pregnancy than the governor’s actual accomplishments.

And here’s something else interesting about Troopergate.  We find 152 references for “Hollis French Palin Troopergate,” but only 34 when we add the word “Obama” into the mix.  Hollis French, the state Senator spearheading the probe, is a staunch supporter of the Democratic nominee.  78% of the stories thus omit French’s partisan leanings.  Well, at least 78%.  I haven’t checked the remaining 4,764 stories to see if they note the presidential politicking involved in the investigation.

To find stories of her actual record, you need go to the conservative press:
