Hating Sarah Palin in West Hollywood

Drive around my neighborhood and you see abundant signs of rancor directed against the GOP, bumper stickers deriding Bush, signs mocking McCain.  This morning, I learned that a West Hollywood resident is displaying a mannequin of “Sarah Palin hanging by a noose from the roof of [his] home.”  Imagine the outrage if a Republican in Orange County had displayed a mannequin of Barack Obama hanging by a noose.

i am delighted to note that some gay left bloggers, instead of countenancing this distasteful display are condemning it.  Andy at towleroad faults it for being neither funny nor original. He’s got that right.  Joe joins him in slamming this mean-spirited decoration, saying we should leave such b.s. “to the wingnuts.

Should we take that to mean he faults all such nastiness on his side, including Andrew Sullivan’s regular rants against the Alaska Governor?  This is just a visual expression of the rage we see on left-wing sites and at Obama rallies directed against the Alaska Governor. At one such rally, “the mention of Palin’s name drew shouts of ‘stone her.’

I grant that there’s been some pretty ugly stuff come from some fringe activists on the right. And mainstream conservative bloggers and pundits have been quick to condemn it. It’s nice to see some gay leftists just as quick to denounce the hate on their own side.

Let’s hope this is part of a trend.

  1. Oh, this is such beautiful f’ing karma.

And meanwhile, notice how in their spin-fest, neither actually goes so far as to say that what these nitwits did was wrong, just that it wasn’t funny or original.

  2. Watch the reaction of the media and the left when someone in the hinterlands put up a hanging Obama for Halloween.

  3. Remember what happened in a small town in LA (the other LA) when some high school kids put nooses in a large Oak Tree. Jessee and the entire liberal posse was out to condemn an entire town.

    So much for tolerant gays!

GPW, come on down to Houston. You will feel the love here!

  4. Offensive, misogynistic and disgusting. The vitriol on the Left has no boundaries. I’m no fan of Senator McCain and I’ve just been introduced to Gov. Palin, but I hope that they win the election if for no other reason than to deny these goons the satisfaction of an Obama victory.

I know that those on the Left refuse to acknowledge this but there more places on Earth than not where such insolence is punishable by death. Having to deal with morally bankrupt, indecent loudmouths is one of more irritating prices we have to pay for living in the freest country in the world.

  5. Really twisted stuff. A lot of gay blogs on the Left, like Towleroad, have denounced this.

Communists for Palin? I did a google blog search for Palin and found this. Seemed weird, so I e-mailed the author to see if this was legit or not. He says as a Marxist-Leninist, he supports Republicans in power, especially ones like Sarah Palin, just because he feels they have the capacity to cause more damage.

The radical left gets weirder and weirder every generation.

  7. Towleroad’s post title: “Gay Couple Puts Halloween Hate on Display in West Hollywood”
From the post: “As much as I despise the GOP ticket, mimicking the hate and racist imagery that McCain supporters have been flaunting with regard to Obama isn’t funny or original. It’s just stooping to their level.”
Yeah, he’s really’s endorsing it here. LOL

And for the record (and no equal signs!), this imagery and display is wrong, sick, and twisted.

  10. And hence the point, gillie….the Obama display is condemned, while liberals and Obama supporters like yourself clap and cheer for the Palin one.

Meanwhile, torrentprime, when Towleroad and JoeMyGod oppose things, they post the names and addresses of the people they oppose and their relatives and encourage them to make hateful phone calls and send emails.

Funny how they can’t do that to their fellow leftist gay bigots. But then again, that’s all this is really about; making excuses for leftist gay bigotry and hate.

  13. Ah, gillie the insipid comes back to haunt intelligent conversation after cutting and running from the “more me more Republican” thread when he was challenged to explain how The One could possibly fund his Obamunist spending schemes, and his statement in favor of gutting the military was roundly refuted.

Just like Dave cuts and runs when challenged to back up his insane allegations with proof.

  14. I prefer the comic stylings of Sarah Bernhardt, warning Palin would be “…gang raped by my big, black brothers…” if she entered Manhattan. She then went on an anti-Christian rant: “Turncoat bitch! Don’t you f**king reference Old Testament, bitch! You stay with your new goyish crappy shiksa funky bullshit! Don’t you touch my Old Testament, you bitch!”

    I’m savoring the fear.

    Comment by Ignatius — October 27, 2008 @ 6:58 pm - October 27, 2008

  15. As a Democrat and a gay man, I’m ashamed and embarrassed that this occurred in West Hollywood. Any pandering to violence, even symbolic, must be roundly condemned.

However, it’s especially egregious when the equivalent occurs at a candidate’s rally and the candidate doesn’t call out the person for doing it. Which is exactly what happened at Palin’s rally today in Virginia (I believe it was Leesburg). Someone in the crowd yelled out “He’s a n*gg*r!” You can tell by the way Palin stutters over her words that she heard it. It’s pretty loud, as you can see from this YouTube clip.

This type of behavior must be unacceptable in our political discourse, especially when it occurs within a candidate’s earshot. They must call it out. Sarah Palin missed an opportunity today to separate herself from the more offensive rhetoric occurring on the far right. That was a moment for leadership and Governor Palin showed none.

  16. Notice how a lib can never criticize anything one of his partisans does without pointing out something on the “other side.”

And for all we know, the guy who shouted it was an Obamunist infiltrator out to embarrass Palin.

  17. Any pandering to violence, even symbolic, must be roundly condemned.

Which is why, instead of condemning it, you attacked Sarah Palin.

Probably because the only thing that bothers you about this is the PR disaster it’s becoming, not the actual idea of hanging Sarah Palin.

  18. I’m ashamed and embarrassed… However…

Ah. That other shoe. I’m not sure I’ve ever heard a lefty give a simple, unqualified apology for something.

    Comment by ILoveCapitalism — October 27, 2008 @ 7:57 pm - October 27, 2008

  19. BTW, Erik… did Obama ever rebuke his supporters who came to rallies in T-shirts that read “Sarah Palin is a (See-You-Next-Tuesday).”

Did Obama ever rebuke Sandra Bernhardt for saying Sarah Palin should be gang-raped? That was pretty widely publicized.

I guess Obama missed those opportunities to separate himself from the hateful rhetoric of his supporters, huh?

  23. #14…

Sorry, I call BS on that video! Notice its an edited YouTube video from the most rabid left wing site on the internet? Notice how CNN who shot the original video doesnt even have a story about it? The same CNN that went apoplectic over a now debunked third-person allegation that someone shouted “kill him” about Obama at a McCain rally!

One would think that if they are willing to run a now debunked third person account with no verification as news, they surely would run their own video!

Its a dub, its a lie, and its so typical of liberals.

  25. #1. Poor NDT. Doesn’t read.

“GAY COUPLE PUTS HALLOWEEN HATE ON DISPLAY IN WEST HOLLYWOOD” is Towle’s title. Does he have to say ‘hate’ is wrong? (Come to think of it, perhaps yes, for some audiences…)

He continues: “As much as I despise the GOP ticket, mimicking the hate and racist imagery that McCain supporters have been flaunting with regard to Obama isn’t funny or original. It’s just stooping to their level.”

So, yes, he thinks it is, as you demand, “wrong.”

    Comment by jimmy — October 28, 2008 @ 1:22 am - October 28, 2008

  26. Al Qaeda endorsed McCain because when they endorsed Kerry it had the opposite effect they wanted. Apparently they learn more quickly than some.

    Comment by American Elephant — October 28, 2008 @ 1:28 am - October 28, 2008

Which is why he doesn’t say it’s wrong anywhere in there.

Poor bigot Towle. He’s just trying to explain why he and his fellow gay leftists make such obvious PR blunders. They support the idea of hanging Sarah Palin; they just weren’t supposed to let it out of the Obama meetings that that’s what they discuss and want to do.

  37. The irony here is seeing all the signs around town saying, “Don’t Hate. Vote No on 8,” and then driving by this house.
It leaves me to wonder who’s really doing the hating when this homeowner was positively gleeful on the news when interviewed about this hateful Halloween display.

  38. #36: Except with children, Vinnie P, there is still at least a glimmer of their potential to become positive, self-reliant individuals with the wisdom and maturity to distinguish between reason and emotion, and who other people actually want to spend time with. Oh yeah, and at least children at some point, eventually, quit bi*ching, crying, complaining and screaming 24 hours a day.
