The Bush administration has followed the rule of law at all times. If you weren’t entirely ignorant of civics, you would know that there are areas of the law which are UNSETTLED, over which people can have honest disagreements. Indeed, most people who can put 2 and 2 together instantly recognize that this is precisely why court decisions are often divided.

The very FEW times the courts have not supported the Bush administrations view, the administration has immediately complied, but far more often than not, the courts have agreed with Bush and Congress, despite all Democrats lies and demagoguery and undermining of their own nation in wartime for political gain, has come around to the Bush position. Including your own presidential candidate.

Sandra Bernhardt was “joking” when she said she wanted Sarah Palin gang-raped.

Randi Rhodes was “joking” when called for Bush and Cheney’s assassination.

Joe Biden was “joking” when he bragged about Delaware being a slave state… oh, wait, he wasn’t.

But the point remains, one can’t use “satire” as a catchall excuse for saying offensive, repugnant things.

Especially bad, third-rate satire.

Furthermore, the fact that that piece was not a joke is made even more obvious by the amount of spinning you’re trying to do. Barack Obama endorsed and supported with millions of dollars programs that taught public school children that behavior is determined by the amount of melanin in the skin. This sort of rhetoric fits right in with that.

Why do you bother to make stuff up that can easily be disproved?

So, yes, he was joking, being sarcastic.

As for comparing the use of the word “thug” by Democrats vs Republicans, we have to look at context. Is there clearly recognizable thuggish behavior on the part of the Bush Admin and people like Coulter, et. al. Then contrast that with the well known stereotype that black men are violent, oppressive thugs.

In the case of Obama, there are no real “thuggish” acts. Again, the article in question here was snarky introspection. To label it as racist is pretty petty and extreme. This is no more racist than articles by Jewish or black authors questioning the good judgment of their fellows done in similar sarcastic fashion. Hello! Both Jewish and African-American comics have made careers out of such introspection, right?

Is the article stupid? Kinda. But is it filled with hate? No.

This posting was a knee-jerk attempt to smear an Obama supporter.

The irony here is that Michael Savage, Neal Boortz, Ann Coulter, Dinesh D’Souza, and others have written or said things with no comic intent (being serious) that are racist or homophobic. To wit, Ann Coulter calling John Edwards a “fag,” Savage telling a caller that he should “die of AIDS,” etc.

Now, what about the death threats that Kathleen Parker received? Should there not be a place for disagreement in the GOP? If one disagrees about a candidate, does that candidate deserve to receive death threats? Parker didn’t like Palin. Didn’t Parker have a First Amendment right to express her opinion?

This takes me back to my point about the Dixie Chicks. When Natalie M. made her statement, what happened? Clear Channel, a Republican-controlled organization, banned the Dixie Chicks. Clear Channel owned stations had record burning ceremonies. And, sadly, the Dixie Chicks faced death threats.

That seems like real, thuggish behavior.

Also, why do you keep using “Thugocracy”? You did this last week when you went off and promoted that thoroughly debunked story about the lunatic who scarred herself.

The use of the word “Thugocracy” simply is an attempt to inject racial stereotypes. Moreover, you also have a convenient amnesia about the very real thuggish behavior observed over the last 8 years of the Bush Administration:

1. Imperial Presidency
2. Secret Prisons
3. Assaults on Press Freedom
4. Warrantless Wiretaps

And, can you please take a moment to discuss the very real death threats that were issued against people who disagree with Bush (like the Dixie Chicks) or Sarah Palin’s selection? Kathleen Parker has written extensively about the death threats she has received.

Moreover, while there are scary fring elements on all sides, you conveniently leave out the well-oiled machine members of GOP Pravda brigade: Ann Coulter, Sean Hannity, Rush Limbaugh, Glenn Beck, Neal Boortz, and others. All of whom have used less than civil words to attack political opponents.

Last week, Bruce, you happily published that false story about Ashley Todd. You labeled it as example of Obama “Thugocracy.” Did you bother to apologize after the story was debunked? Did you issue an apology on this blog? If not, why not? You smeared people. Right?

Maybe this is a question of semantics. What does “Thugocracy” mean to you?
