Hope in West Hollywood

November 3, 2008 by GayPatriotWest

Just returned from Trader Joe’s. As I was putting my groceries into the car, I chanced on a McCain sticker in the windshield of the car next to mine.  At the same moment, the owner of this vehicle was returning to his car, the same guy who stood behind me in the checkout line.

He and his wife were delighted to meet another Republican from the neighborhood.

It just seeming so uncanny that of the all the cars to park next to mine in a crowded parking lot would be another McCain supporter in a town as full of Obama-supporters as this one.

And this wasn’t the only good sign today, I learned that a friend who had voted for Obama in the Democratic primary may well be leaning towards McCain, admiring the Republican’s service to our country and concerned about his opponent’s tax plan.

I have a really, really good feeling about this election.

I can’t wait to see what happens tomorrow, and to get to the polls and do my part.

When I came out of Publix last night, I noticed almost every other car had a McCain/Palin sticker. My truck still has the “W” sticker.

My neighbor, two doors down, has an Obama sign in their yard in violation of the HOA. But, they’re newbs and probably nobody will care.

It was a pleasure to bump into a true Republican. We are a cornered bunch here in West Hollywood. We just have to get out there tomorrow, and kick ass!

Well, Trader Joes always equals good times in my book.

Seriously though, with the polls as close as they are, I think McCain is going to pull through and win this thing. I do figure a lot of people never wanted to be uncool enough to tell a pollster they were voting for McCain and not Obama, and pollsters have seemed skeptical anyway to believe that GOP voters are enthusiastic too. (GOP voters often times don’t show their enthusiasm except for a trip to the polling place in early November.)

The majority of voters do want a change from Bush. We know that. They don’t even want a Republican. But still, do I think enough voters are ultimately going to trust Obama when they could have McCain? It’s going to be close, but I think McCain pulls the upset.

Wow, I thought I was the only Republican supporter in WeHo. It sure feels like that. I would love to connect with other like minded people in our area. GPW, you have my email if you ever want to hang out.
