Schumer Can’t Distinguish Political Speech from Porn

November 4, 2008 by GayPatriotWest

Favoring the so-called Fairness Doctrine which would limit access to the airwaves, the New York Senator opines:

Should the Democrats wins today and attempt to impose this antiquated doctrine, watch for it to galvanize the right.  May help Americans see the true nature of all too many on the left, eager to use the government to silence their critics. (H/t Michelle Malkin).

If the Republicans don’t hang onto enough seats to filibuster, there’s still Rush Limbaugh’s bank account. Legal challenges could hold off the Fairness Doctrine for years.

But it is noteworthy how tyrants always move to shut down the opposition media: Putin, Chavez, Mugabe, Castro… the Democrats are following in the Marxist tradition.

But I disagree with your threadline, Democrats generally believe porn is protected free speech, but political opinion must be regulated by the government.

I don’t really believe this is how they will spend their first days back in power, especially with Schumer talking about stupid crap like that. They didn’t get voted in to make Talk Radio more “Fair”, this must be his idiotic pet project. I dunno if Schumer realizes that we have some wars going on, some economic contraction, some health care problems…someone should tell him.

Nice thought Darkeye, but I didn’t think the Republicans were voted in to spend recklessly and hugely expand entitlements. Schumer is an idiot, but also he is in charge of getting more Democrats elected to Congress, and he isn’t so stupid that he would pass up an opportunity to gain an advantage to that end. In general the Dems aren’t to concerned about the big things because they are comfortable that they will have a huge majority in Congress and a fellow Dem in the White House. With that, there is no real barrier to them doing everything they want, when they want, without any debate.

Yep Chuckie Schumer wants us to equate Thomas Paine’s “Common Sense” with “SWANK” magazine… It’s not that he himself can’t distinguish this, he is hoping that the uneducated masses will fail to.

FAIRNESS!? WTF? Anyone watch Saturday Night Live lately? How about the interview with Chevy Chase talking about how he always had an agenda when he would portray Gerald Ford as a clumsy moron, and that was to get Carter in. Comedy Central created ‘Chocolate News’ because Jon Stewart didn’t do well making fun of Obama, he appeared racist in doing so, so a new show was born.–I think it’s great that they did that because I think it’s important to be able to laugh at ourselves and each other freely, but the notion that the media is so one sided as to not give people a more liberal take on things is CRAZY!

Unfortunately, the polls I’ve seen show most Americans think its a good idea — they naively trust that Democrats are trying to be fair, and dont know what Democrats know very well, which is that the fairness doctrine would only affect conservative media, and it wouldnt make conservative media more fair, it would simply run them out of business. Any informed person knows this is Democrats’ intent, but as we see from Obama’s popularity, most Americans arent informed.
