Why on Earth would Sarah Palin want to be in the U.S. Senate right now??

She gets to be Governor of Alaska — where she can create tangible accomplishments demonstrating that conservative answers to America’s ills can have good results. I love her idea of school vouchers for special needs children — something I think she could easily get passed in Alaska.

Republicans in the Senate have a hugely important, but largely thankless task: Screaming “No!!” to the worst excesses of the new Democratic majority. I wouldn’t wish that on anyone we are hoping to run for President in four years.

Appoint herself, get on the Armed Services, Foreign Relations committees to get experience then lob bombs at Obama for the next years about his associations and Socialist economic policies.

There was a piece on NRO on how governors who appoint themselves senator tend to be punished for their arrogance.

What she should do is appoint Deputy Wooten senator during the 90 days between Stevens (Please) resignation and the election to choose his successor. With any luck, he’ll taser Chuck Schumer.

Democrats have a way of “finding” votes whenever there’s a recount. Washington Democrats “found” some votes three weeks after the 2004 election to install Christine Gregoire. The final tally in one county exceeded the number of eligible voters.

I am betting the order has already gone out in Minnesota to come up with another 600 votes for L’il Albert.

After the incident where Frank Murkowski appointed his daughter (Lisa) to hold his senate seat in 2002, Alaskans passed a law requiring that a special election be held within 90 days to fill any congressional vacancy.

It’s unclear whether the law would allow for an appointment to serve in that 90 days time.

Lt Governor Sean Parnell would be a good choice.

The GOP did not do as badly in the Senate as I had feared. Four races are still open, but the Republican is ahead in each one. Minnesota Democrats will probably demand a recount, and rig it to put Al Franken in office, but the other three races look pretty good for preserving the filibuster. Gordon Smith pulling it out in Oregon could be the upset of 2008.
