Dick Morris sums it up:
Power has been bad for the GOP, sapping the party’s soul and eroding its purity. But opposition, especially when a socialist like Obama wrestles with the practical problems of capitalism, will be a heady experience for the Republicans. The conservative movement can be reborn in opposition in a way they never could have been as the governing party.
I think the conservative brand could use some rebranding.
By controlling the media, the left has succeeded in painting conservatives as racist, uneducated, nutjobs. I think there has to be an effort made to educate people that conservatism is nothing more than plain common sense.
It should be an easy contrast to make given the circus of corruption and incompetence that is coming to Washington.
Indeed. But what good is a movement or a political party that can’t handle governing?
Inability to handle governing is the result of two things: a short memory and a belief that you can avoid the problems that everyone else experienced.
Hence, going forward, two slogans: “Remember”, and “Don’t Think You’re Hot Stuff, ‘Cause You’re Not”. 🙂
I like McCain. Great guy, terrible conservative candidate. I will be fascinated to see what Gov. Palin’s future role in the party will be. Well, now that Obama is victorious, she’l probably let us know herself when Oprah finally has her on the show.
Three (3) things for the GOP to do:
1. Grow a pair – don’t try to charm the Drive-By Media or your counterparts in the House and Senate. If you are going to be effective, don’t try to be liked.
2. Attention Sen. McConnell – now that you won your seat again, start acting like a future Majority Leader and filibuster, filibuster, filibuster.
3. Put conservatives – i.e. YOUR BASE – first. When you act and run like a conservative, you will get elected. Period.

There are also other silver linings to Obama’s victory.
