#1: JR, Bush’s mandate was not predicated upon the percentage of the vote he received. It was based upon the fact that in his first term our nation was hit with 9/11 and after 17 minutes of unity as fellow Americans, the liberals began their daily crucifixions of him and by the time the election rolled around we were at war–yet voters STILL SENT HIM BACK TO THE WHITE HOUSE FOR A SECOND TERM. That IS a mandate.

Rudy Giuliani was not the Reoublican nominee because he had a terrible campaign strategy of relying entirely on NY Jews in South Florida to jump start his campaign after sitting out the first few contests.

And the verdict on that decision? Giuliani is obviously politically tone deaf, LOL. That strategy could have worked in 1988, but not in 2008. The media momentum that Huckabee, Romney and McCain got from early victories totally dwarfed Giuliani to the point that by the time Florida’s primary arrived, he was already toast.

The Giuliani campaign’s incompetence was only matched by Hillary Clinton’s. But that’s how the two 2008 front runners went from good bets to also-rans.

If Chairman O has a mandate, then his mandate is to do all the things he campaigned upon. Specifically, The One has promised to put 47 million people on Medicaid, send out $70 billion in tax welfare checks to people who don’t pay taxes, spend $85 billion a year in payments to third world despots… er, I mean, ‘Global Poverty Relief,’ provide Universal Pre-K (Federalized Daycare), “rebuild the military,” college tuition subsidies, $80 billion for alternative fuel and green technology research, increase other Federal education funding by $6 billion a year, and spend billions more in massive infrastructure projects that he so admires the Chinese Communists for.

Oh, and he also promised to cut taxes for 95% of Americans.

I would love to hear from JR, or any other Obamunist, how ‘The One’ proposes to pay for all that new government spending while only raising taxes on 5% of taxpayers.

Har har line of the day, from Obama Kool-Aid drinker Joe Klein: It is a place, finally, where the content of our President's character is more important than the color of his skin. Right. And a white half-term Senator with an undistinguished record in local politics, association with violent terrorists and racists, attendance at churches where "God damn America" was screamed from the pulpit, and a campaign that showed a penchant for breaking laws ranging from campaign finance through identity theft and all the way to voter fraud, would be elected President.

Our first order of business is to formulate an agenda much like the Contract For America and choose its standard-bearer in Congress. Keep it simple and speak directly to the American people through the (still) available channels such as talk radio. Don’t be afraid to disagree with the administration, but provide a positive alternative. Strategically, wait until it becomes clear that Obama is taking the country down the wrong path for maximum effect.

Rudy was my guy too. I dont think it was McCain’s age however, that doomed him (I happen to think he comes across as much younger than he is and as very energetic), but rather his inability to present a focused campaign and to clearly articulate conservative principles and why they are better then liberal principles. Things I think Rudy would have done far better.

The difference JR, is that George Bush ran for election making very clear what he would do in office. Barack Obama got elected by obfuscating what he will do in office.

And Wall Street has spoken very clearly as well. Both it and the European markets nosedived because of the election of Barack Dont Use My Middle Name Obama. And if the markets are any indicator of the economy to come, which of course is exactly what they are, Obama is going to make the economy worse, not better. And when that happens, whatever “mandate” Obama and the Democrats think they have will evaporate — as it will when they try to pass any parts of their agenda that they tried to hide from the American people during this election, which happens to be most of their agenda.

When will the GOP learn from past mistakes, Bob Dole was too old and so was John McCain. These old warhorses need to go to pasture. We need new, younger, truly energized candidates or we may wait another 42 years.

By W’s 2004 logic (in which he garnered 51% of the vote), Obama’s electoral victory of 53% was a *mandate*.
