Give Obama A Break

November 9, 2008 by GayPatriot

All in all, I think conservatives reacted appropriately (meaning: quiet) to the “Nancy Reagan” comment during Pres-Elect Obama’s first news conference last week.   But I know some are expressing loud outrage and highlighting Obama’s joke as evidence he doesn’t have a bi-partisan bone in his body.

Puh-leeeze.  There is plenty of documented evidence of Obama’s policy record as a far-left liberal.  But a harmless (and I thought funny) joke about Nancy Reagan and “dead Presidents” is really nothing to get worked up about.

Frankly, I find it a bit refreshing to have a President who cracks a joke and makes the room chuckle, not wince in pain.

Time will tell, but let’s not jump on the guy based on this one joke.  I’m with Andy McCarthy at National Review:

Let’s not act like a bunch of Lefties just looking to be aggrieved over this or that slight.  This is likely to be a tough stretch, and we’ll need to be able to laugh — at ourselves and at the other side — to get through it.

People are way too sensitive and willing to scream “sexist”, “homophobe” or “racist.”

Sometimes a joke is just a joke.

Lighten up, America.

Obamas joke didnt bother me at all except it would have been funnier if he got his punchline right; Nancy was into astrology, Hillary was the one seancing with Elanor Roosevelt.

Frankly, I find it a bit refreshing to have a President who cracks a joke and makes the room chuckle, not wince in pain.

hey, give the man some credit. Bush cracked lots of jokes, he could make a room laugh AND wince.

Although the remark was classless and snide (in other words, normal for Obama), I’m not inclined to give him grief over it. I’ll save it for when he and the Democrats really start screwing the country.

Oh, wait, they already did that when they brought us the sub-prime mortgage crisis.

Maybe I’m the first to call for Obamas resignation over this classless joke at the expense of a sick and elderly ex first lady. He should resign now and save the country further embarrassment. I gave BHO the benifit of the doubt for 3 days now it’s time for him to go.

I’m remaining silent over Barry for now. Trying to lead by example so hopefully my Leftist friends will look and learn so the next time a Red president is elected, they won’t waste their energy on hating him/her from the first minute.

I’m saving my concerns over him for when he jacks up on foreign policy, when he starts handing out entitlements and our economy crumbles even further, and when he tries eating away at our constitutional rights.

You can’t cry wolf over a bad joke or you discredit yourself when you later raise hell over very legitimate concerns about his governing.

All the more reason not to criticize him over all the trivial stuff. Have you ever read the story about the boy who cried wolf? If you complain about every little thing, by the time you have something serious to complain about, people have already stopped listening to you.

    American Elephant,
My point, let Obama supporters defend him. Instead of using time to attack what other conservatives are doing, use it to expose something the left is up to. We are in defense right now, my point to gay patriot is not to waste precious time an energy cause we are going to need everything we got in the next couple years.

Well thats a fine point Robert. I agree. I think GP was addressing people who were attacking Obama over this, so I assumed you meant by, “why give him a break” that attacking him over this was fine. Of course I’d still say it doesnt do us any harm in the arena of public opinion to defend him from silly attacks.

You are exactly what folks on here say the left is.

No, if that were true, we’d be wearing T-shits that say “Obama is a c–t.”

And, clueless Dave, the point of the post was to *not* give The Zero grief over this. But you were too intoxicated by the smell of your own flatus to notice that.

  14. V the K says

    November 9, 2008 at 1:10 pm - November 9, 2008

#13 V is your reading disorder kicking up again? I started the sentence with GENE, meaning I was responding to GENE. So tell me did GENE write the original post? NO, looks like you’re the clueless one.

Oh, the C word offends you? But none of the words that right wing loonies say about Obama? Guess the H word describes you perfectly – hypocritical.

Yes, unlike my enlightened, tolerant, and oh-so-sophisticated elite left “superiors,” I still think calling a woman a c–t is unacceptable.

Let’s see… I’ve heard Obama called a “Magic Negro,” but that phrase originated with left-wing LA Times columnist David Ehrenstein.

I’ve heard him called, ‘The One,’ but that originated with some dippy, obese, African-American daytime talk-show hostess.

I’ve heard him called a “Mutt,” but he called himself that.

I’ve heard him called the Obamassiah, but only because his cult-like followers work themselves into a creepy fanaticism over him, and he himself said, “A Light Will Shine Down, From Somewhere, It Will Alight Upon You, You Will Experience An Epiphany, And You Will Say To Yourself, I Have To Vote For Barack!”

I’ve heard him called a Marxist, and his “spread the wealth around” remark validates that.

I’ve heard him called a ‘thug,’ but that was by America’s “first black president” Bill Clinton. Also, a homeless African-American ACORN voter in Ohio called him that.

I’ve heard him called a fascist, but that’s an easy misunderstanding. Anytime there’s a cult of personality around a leader who craves maximum power and uses the power of the state to silence his opposition… people start throwing words like ‘Fascist’ around.

Yeah, Obama’s been called a lot of things. Some I disagree with. Some I don’t.

    Good luck with that, Jessica.

The last thing the right needs to do is feign outrage at every little thing that pops out of the Obama White House. There will likely be plenty to be alarmed about over the next four years.

We need to leave the constant outrage schtick to the left. We need to be the grownups in the room.

And you just never know – Barry could turn out to be an OK president (optimistic, no?) – being the guy behind the desk can bring reality into focus.

There’s plenty others and they are just as offensive as c__t, a word which actually is used in some other countries quite often as part of everyday conversation and though certainly still crude does not produce the outrage that it does here.

An aside, sort of – I was watching a Dr. Who season 3 (the new one) and the following conversation took place about the man who had become Prime Minister:

Doctor: “The Master was always sort of hypnotic but this is on a massive scale”
Martha: “I was going to vote for him”
    .
    M: “I liked him”
    Cap’n Jack: “So did I”
Dr: “Why do you say that”
Cap’n Jack start to speak but has no answer.

D: “What’s his policy, what did he stand for?”
M: “I don’t know he always sounded good, like I could trust him, just nice. He spoke about… I can’t really remember but it was good, just the sound of his voice.”

Perhaps Obama is a disguise for the Master 🙂

I guess you can argue that Obama was unconnected with the man’s arrest, and police were only trying to prevent a riot. But the Obama supporters cheering and chanting “Obama” as he is led away is just plain scary.

They always say “It can’t happen here,” but watching that video, one can justify some trepidation about what is to come.

I have to maintain a since of humor. I just read that the “Communist” Chinese are going to enact an economic stimulus package that is around $585 billion. They are going to cut taxes! Perhaps the first overseas trip Obama should make is one to China. Even the Chinese Communists know that you don’t raise taxes in order to increase production.

I thought Obama was going to be the President of all of us, bring us all together, usher in a new era, new understanding, quit the old politics of division, change the way things are done. But right away he attacks old people, attacks a Republican first lady, attacks people who favor astrologists, people who believe in other wordly things. He’s such a liar. Such a divider. So full of BS. I’m so dissappointed. Why doesn’t he resign so we can really move on. He can use this opportunity to show us how it is done. Make a blunder, resign. Show some leadership. I for one am becoming disillusioned.
