New SF Supervisor: Openly Gay, Former Illegal Immigrant
Ah, only in the City by the Bay would a Federal law-breaking gay guy be named to the Board of Supervisors by the California law-breaking Mayor.
San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom swore in openly gay attorney David Campos to replace Tom Ammiano on the San Francisco Board of Supervisors. Ammiano won his election to the California State Assembly on Nov. 4, carrying a Victory Fund endorsement.
Campos, who will represent the city’s ninth district, came to the United States at the age of 14 as an undocumented immigrant from Guatemala. He became an American citizen in 1997, according to the San Francisco Chronicle.
“I might be the first undocumented person elected to the Board of Supervisors,†Campos said to cheers. “I think it’s only fitting in this very difficult time to be an immigrant that something like this would happen in San Francisco. It says a lot about the city.â€
Arghhhhhhhhh.  Is there some way to saw off San Fran and allow it to be its own country? Which is worse? The fact he was an illegal immigrant…. or that he’s a lawyer?
By the way, The Victory Fund folks want me to be happy cuz he’s openly gay. I guess gay trumps “rule of law” now. Â
And just exactly what is so interesting about a gay guy on the San Fran Board of Supervisors? I’d just assume they were all gays or lesbians by now.  Is there gay discrimination in elections in San Fran?Â
/sarcasm off

Bruce, some of us here are old enough to remember when NYC was the worst, most liberal, most corrupt, most violent place in America filled with all kinds of crackpots and ne’er-do-wells… and that was just the Mayor’s Office. My brother had a 70′s era t-shirt that said “America, Let’s Give NYC back to the Dutch”.
Ford denied the then-hopelessly incompetent NYC administration a bailout and took a thrashing. Look at the turn around from that errant time!
There’s still hope for some change in SF. It just has to get bad enough for decent people to act in mass… until then, SF will continue to have waterboarding demonstration protests in public parks, prurient interests sated only by bestiality and abuse and people urinating on patriotic symbols because they were denied Tricks or Capt Crunch at their parents’ breakfast table. It matters not… the best SF has to offer is NancyPelosi and she’s nothing more than a shell of humanity hiding in the dark til her next BoTox injection.

Off-topic, Illinois Governor Blagojevich has been arrested on federal charges re. financially benefitting from the appointment of Obama’s Senate seat. Ah, Illinois politics. Story here.

San Francisco and New Orleans, her sister city, share the common theme of courting natural disaster. The denizens of both cities push the envelope on what it means to be a libertine. Each city is known for its naughty freak side and its liberal tolerant side. They are both kept on a cobweb leash by their respective state governments who keep them from going full bore Amsterdam. We learned a great deal from Hogarth’s London etchings about the carnal world. There have always been cities that were more fleshpot than urbane and there always will be. San Francisco has loads of gay whorehouses, drug parlors and people crapping in the streets. It only needs to send a commission to Amsterdam to learn how to expand their sensory gratification service industry.
Meanwhile, it is about the only place in America where people on bicycles attack cars.

Mayor Newsome is a loon and Campos may well also be a loon.
But, as to his citizenship: Your own posting says he was 14-years-old when he illegally came into the United States. I assume he came with his parents, who were the real lawbreakers, and had no choice in the matter.

UGH! I am with you GP on sawing off San Fran from the rest of the United States! I am here in Los Angeles and thinking, what is this about? Why does the left trot out such people and think “OOH! AHH!” we should be impressed by this? There are some of us who are not impressed. What would impress me is if there was a REPUBLICAN, gay candidate ELECTED in San Francisco. BTW, If he was appointed, how was he elected?! Only the left wing has this logic.

I just don’t understand what there is about living in a large city that turns one into an idiot liberal. The quality of life in San Francisco, Detroit, Chicago, Philadelphia, Baltimore and other large cities rots, taxes and the cost of living rise ever higher, services deteriorate… but they elect the same corrupt liberals in the pattern of John Street, Gavin Newsom, Kwame Kilpatrick, Sharon Pratt Dixon, and Rod Blagojevich over and over again. Why? Why are urban liberals such idiots?

idiot liberal
Still raising the discourse, i see.
Yes, because the “conservatives” in charge of Congress and the White House for the last 14/8 years did such a bang up job of running the federal government and the economy, I can’t believe the voters wouldn’t assume that they could handle city governments as well.
And Mark: you might want to Google before you embarrass yourself in writing. Campos was duly elected to the District 9 Supervisor spot by the voters. But because the slot he was elected to is/was going to be empty for 2 months (Ammiano went to Sacramento) Newsom simply appointed him now to the spot he was going to be sworn into in January anyway. But make no mistake – Campos was elected to the Board of Supervisors; all Newsom did was appoint him for the extra/empty 2 months between now and when his normal term would have started.
Only the current right wing has this kind of fact checking.

Well Campos is a legal citizen now. As for the Gav, he only apppointed Campos because Campos won the election to replace Tom Ammoano, who resigned after winning the race to the CA Assembly. Campos just gets a mini head start to the offoce he won.

Liberals are usually unemployed, employed in the public sector, are lawyers, reporters, or florists.

#6 – You can leave Houston and Dallas off those lists. We wouldn’t allow our cities to reach the nadir of either NOLA or SF.
As I like to say to my friends east of the Sabine River: “Louisiana is the only state that is half-underwater and half-under indictment. At the same time.”

Not true , but I’m sure I’m constructing a circular argument around the literality of the word it.

It pains me to say it but Campos might be the first in that elected job in SF I know of another case from decades ago.
My great uncles and grandfather came here from Russia around the time of the communist takeover of 1919.
They all dressed as girls because there were limits on boys coming in.
One of them later became mayor of Las Vegas, NE.
I doubt he ever became a ”legal” citizen.
And back in those days nobody asked.

They’ve all retired down here. Thankfully, most live in Miami and run night clubs on Collins. The people who voted for them or supported them drive aimlessly down I-4 or Reagan Turnpike going 40 MPH, in the left lane, with their blinker on.

Well, we had record revenues coming into the treasury until the liberal Fan/Fred shit hit the fan. That, and the election of a Neo-socialist who strikes fear in the heart of private businesses doing what they can to soften the coming blows.
What’s more, maybe you can explain to me how if liberalism is so great, why were there so many poor in New Orleans? Why was there cries of racism? One would think that the rich New Orleaneans wouldn’t engage in such activities. Plus, you’d think the mayor of “Chocolate City” wouldn’t have told his voters “Screw you guys! I’m going to Dallas to buy a house!”.

Did anybody do a background check to see if he came over from Guatemala as a refugee from their civil war? If so, that’s vastly different than someone just coming in illegally to find work. But I doubt that matters much to the bloggers.
