I suspect Dan will have some thoughts on this analogy, but the words of Victor Davis Hanson pretty much sum up my dim view of the world we live in.
There is something especially nauseating about the latest Middle East war — scenes of worldwide Islamic protests with photos of Jews as apes, protesters (in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida of all places!) screaming about nuking Israel and putting Jews in ovens, parades of children dressed up with suicide vests and fake rockets, near constant anti-Semitic vicious sloganeering, Gaza mosques stuffed with rockets to be used against civilians — all to be collated with creepy Hamas rhetoric about the annihilation of Israel. This is the world in which we now live.
Almost no other issue in recent memory has illustrated the moral bankruptcy of much of the international community. Hamas has no pretensions, like the PA, of being a governing authority; it used violence to rout the PA and then bragged that its charter pledging the destruction of Israel remained unchanged. Israel evacuated Gaza; Gazans in response looted their own infrastructure, alienated both the PA and Egypt, and then sent off more than 6,000 rockets against Israeli civilians, while eagerly becoming a terrorist puppet of theocratic Iran.
Nothing could be more clear: either the fact that a constitutional republic was trying to avoid civilian casualties while a terrorist organization was intent on killing Jewish civilians as it used its own citizens as shields to protect mostly young male terrorists; or the world’s craven reaction to all this.
Again all very creepy — the stuff of Tolkien’s Mordor. It is now clear that the so-called and much praised “international community,” the hallowed U.N., the revered EU, all pretty much are indifferent to the survival of a democratic Israel, or are actively supportive of its terrorist Hamas enemy. Only the U.S. (for now) stands by a constitutional state in its war against a murderous terrorist clique, with annhilation its aim and religous fascism its creed.
By the way, Leah….. your nephew Achikam is in my thoughts and prayers. Please keep us updated.
UPDATE:Â Here’s video of the lovely demonstration in Ft. Lauderdale on 12/30/08.
-Bruce (GayPatriot)
Thanks Bruce, you and the other readers of the blog’s prayers mean a lot. I believe in the power of prayer.
No news from Achikam, I’m praying not to get a phone call in the middle of the night. My brother (Achikam’s father) has his own blog http://yaacovlozowick.blogspot.com/
In his latest post he’s outed good old Sully as a newly minted anti Israeli – can’t say I’m surprised, to be honest, makes more sense that he be against Israel than supporting her.
Another great blog that is updating the situation regularly is:http://www.israellycool.com//
The quickest source for info is on twitter, http://twitter.com/israelconsulate, http://twitter.com/fromisrael
Thanks for the links Leah, it’s good to get a view of what’s going on other than the major news sources.
Alas, not all of teh gheys are as sensible as Bruce and Dan.
This calls for a Tolkien quote.
“Arise, arise, Riders of Théoden!
Fell deeds awake, fire and slaughter!
spear shall be shaken, shield be splintered,
a sword-day, a red day, ere the sun rises!
Ride now, ride now! Ride to Gondor!”
Fits the situation, no?
The protest in Fort Lauderdale is really shocking.
I have relatives in the area; I will have to ask them what they heard about this.
Just saw on Fox News a great story of a Palestinian man who is the son of an Intifadah Arab who converted to Christianity based upon the Biblical aphorism “love thy enemy.” He shared his view that the Koran is controversial, at times “bipolar” in its teachings.
The response from his father’s imam? “The young man was either drunk or corrupted by American morals.” I kid you not.
No wonder libtards are enamored of terrorists. They share the same worldview.
No surprise either – the father’s mosque has declared a “fatwa” on his son, basing it upon the Koran’s view that “he who has converted…must be killed.”
My response? In Arabic: “LAN ASTELEM.” “I WILL NOT SUBMIT.”
PS – Mike Tobin of FNC has boots-on-the-ground coverage of the Israeli advance into the Gaza territory. CNN basically limited its coverage to protests similar to the one above.
Bias? What liberal media bias?
Regards,
Peter H.
#1 – Leah, my prayers are with you and with the Jewish people. Shalom chavera.
Regards,
Peter H.
As in Fort Lauderdale, so in San Francisco.
Filtered, darn it.
That video reinforces my belief that we need to reduce immigration to near zero. Importing huge numbers of people who loathe us, our history, our values, and our culture is galactic stupidity.
They won’t be appeased (God knows, the Euro-weenies have been kissing butts for years and it’s not working).
The Anglos in this crowd… Ignorance? Stupidity? Or willfully obtuse?
What’s even MORE nauseating? Both sides voted for Comrade Obama. Figure that shit out.
Meanwhile, how do you “nuke Israel” if “there’s no Israel”???
HUH????
Thank God I’m in central Florida, however my brother is in far west FLL (Sunrise).
SoCalRobert ~ great comments…I agree with you 100%. It’s ridiculous to be letting these people in our beautiful country and giving them the freedoms under our Constitution only to have them hate us and our way of life (yes there is the Freedom of Speech, so yes they “can” do that…but I hardly think the Founding Fathers likened the idea of Free Speech to anti-American diatribes).
Having a number of jewish/Israeli friends down here in Miami, I’m proud to say I support the nation of Israel.
(PS – I hate when people complain about how Israel is killing 100, 200, 300, etc civilians…THAT’S WHERE HAMAS IS HIDING…AMONG the civilians so Israel looks like the bad guys…Vietnam, anyone? Riiiidiculous)
If we’re going to bring up The Lord of the Rings, then here is a relevant passage:
“I say, Théoden King: shall we have peace and friendship, you and I? It is ours to command.”
“We will have peace,” said Théoden at last thickly and with an effort. Several of the Riders cried out gladly. Théoden held up his hand. “Yes, we will have peace,” he said, now in a clear voice, “we will have peace, when you and all your works have perished–and the works of your dark master to whom you would deliver us.”
Many liberals today persist in playing the role of Grima Wormtongue.
Yes.
Real life is like movies with Trolls and magic swords.
Should I tell salvage that what he said was stupid, or should I not feed the troll?
Hey guys, I get most of my news now from twitter, which link to many very good news sites as well.
So far no news from Achikam – which is very good. One Israeli soldier killed another very seriously wounded and about 20 wounded.
Hamas meanwhile is shooting and kneecapping Fatah in Gaza. Let them shoot their own.
Just saw a clip from CNN where a British Int’l law prof is arguing with stupid reporter about Israel’s right to defend itself and the stupidity of ‘proportion’ and not killing civilians in the midst of a war.
Guardian is blaming America as well as Israel.
Of course my concern is with Israel right now, but there is a reason why I’ve been at the forefront of supporting our soldiers for the last 6 years – we are fighting the same battle against evil.
No news from my nephew which is good news.
I’m following the news on twitter and the Israeli press. It is extremely cold there now – but our men are fighting on.
Have watched the video from the demonstration – hatefest in SF. What scares me more than the hatred of Israel is that these people – arabs and American lefties will turn this hatred on us next. Hatred doesn’t end, it finds new outlets.
Amen to that, Leah. May the Divine watch over your nephew, and may he help to bring peace.
#14 – Well, Salvage (or should we call him Redd Foxx?) appears to be the troll. Now all we need is the magic sword to make an appearance.
Regards,
Peter H.
#10 – “The Anglos in this crowd… Ignorance? Stupidity? Or willfully obtuse?”
Answer: D – all of the above.
A mind is a terrible thing to waste, y’know.
Regards,
Peter H.
Just spoke to my brother, he appreciates all prayers.
I prayed for him specifically in church this morning, Leah. And for safety and blessings on the brave people of the IDF.
The U.N. is no friend of either the United States nor Israel. The EU was silent while Hamas lobbed their missles into Israel but quick to urge a cease fire once Israel chose to defend itself. The Israelis are fierce fighters as they demonstrated in the Yom Kippur War. I say nobody should interfere and let Israel wipe Hamas out of existence. That will serve notice to Ahmadjinedad and Iran, Don´t Tread on Me.
VtheK, your #3 and #8, brought to mind a statement that I cannot take credit for, but read as a comment, I believe at Zombieblog. “San Franciscans marching in support of Hamas is like chickens marching in support of Colonel Sanders”. The idiocy and moral bankrupcy of it all is astonishing.
I expect this kind of asinine nonsense in San Francisco but it is shocking to see this in Ft. Lauderdale. I’d like to deport the whole lot of them – especially the two women screaming about nuking Israel & the references to the Holocaust. How exactly do they think this will attract me to their cause? If anything, it makes me despise them even more. Hamas is evil and no different than the Nazis. They should be should be completely and utterly destroyed down to the last terrorist thug.
Anyone else notice the signs had ANSWER on them? Not surprising at all…
#22 – I have a suggestion for them: let’s allow Sharia law to be adopted in San Francisco, just like Hamas advocates in Gaza. Perhaps a few crucifixions – yes, CRUCIFIXIONS of all things – in Union Square Park might change a few minds. I can’t believe that anyone would support a group that is in favor of crufixions. That alone should demonstrate just how barbaric these fanatics are.
What amazes me perhaps the most is that the people here who support Hamas and their ilk call themselves “liberal.”
Talk about bastardization of the language….
Check it: Protesters in Chairman O’s hometown (one of them) are giving him the Boosh treatment. I wonder if the left will propagandize this as Islamists don’t hate America, just our president-elect.
Ehhh….it’s not so surprising when you consider the amount of trash that comprises South Florida nowadays. Word is that even some of the South Beach drug lords are considering splitting town.
Milky Loads is, of course, parroting the left-wing, anti-I-s-r-a-e-l line mixed in with some confused preening about the concept of a just war.
You got that right, pal. Look who the U.N. sends to Gaza as a “human rights” representative. Richard Falk. A guy who compares Israelis to Nazis, thinks 9-11 was an inside job, and says the missiles Hamas fires into Israel are “harmless.”
He also happens to be a law professor at Princeton. (Home of the “Ethics Professor” who thinks its okay to kill children up until the age of two.)
If any of you would like to hear some truly biased coverage, listen to the BBC’s reporters. Our MSM has nothing on them.
Obama has been quite voluble on a number of issues since the election and the media has been treating his pronouncements as if he has already taken office. (I’ve heard a couple of reporters slip up and say “The Obama administration released a statement…”) His silence on this issue is deafening.
There is no equivalent to “The Golden Rule” in the Koran. In fact, the “Imam” in the video blathers away about how compelling Islam is once you have wandered into its web. (My words, not his.) The fact is, Islam is a toxic religion that perfectly suits the needs of the fanatic.
Here is where I draw a direct parallel between radical Islam and the left in America. Each thrive on a toxic hatred of those they condemn. Each can ignore the hypocrisy of their fellows if the means suit their agenda. They will lie and weasel at will, because lying and weaseling to the enemy is useful and necessary to gain and hold control.
You can not take either a radical Islamist or a liberal at his word. Neither will accept the status quo. Both are dedicated to the never ending accumulation of power over lives and souls.
Heh. To feed or not to feed, that is the question. I don’t have a definitive answer. I usually go with whatever feels right at the time. Sometimes it’s fun to feed an especially stupid troll, just to see how far they’ll go.
#31 and yet another broad sweeping condemnation of all liberals. The only place those statements belong is in the sewer. One cannot trust a radical anything at his word and that includes the right wing that you worship so blindly.
#33 – “#31 and yet another broad sweeping condemnation of all liberals.”
You mean like the kinds of hate speech that are always directed at conservatives? You know, the ones we have to just bend over and take because nobody in the media (except FNC) will refute them?
“The only place those statements belong is in the sewer.”
Wrong – the only places that jihadists and their willing accomplices in the MSM and DNC belong are in the sewer. And in my mind, that’s being charitable.
Try again.
Regards,
Peter H.
#34 there may be medications that will help with your delusions.
#35 – Really? Like the ones you take, for instance? You know, the ones that enable you to view jihadists as innocent victims?
Please. Do your research before posting on this board, otherwise you will be thoroughly embarrassed. This is no place for amateurs.
Regards,
Peter H.
a different Dave:
I said it and I stand by it. Radical Islamists will say whatever it takes to maintain their goal of making the world Muslim or Muslim slaves.
Liberals are as radically aligned with secular humanism as the well spring of their moral relativity. They see government as the vehicle of health care, education, day care, diversity reeducation, defining the culture, setting and completing the social agenda, regulating economic, social and cultural affairs. They use the tools of the demagogue to buy people through small money via entitlements and affirmative action programs.
There is no greater tool in the liberal’s workshop than defining what is “hate” speech or crime, what is politically correct, what is “fair” to say, what is “diverse,” what “choice” includes and does not include. It is all doublespeak and miasma. To adhere to this type of deception, one must have a toxic disdain for the individual and personal responsibility. Since it is deception, it is also a lie.
What is funnier than Nancy Pelosi and Joe Biden pontificating on the Catholic Church and when life begins? You may have noticed that both of them were smacked hard by the Catholic Church. The point is, liberals just redefine things to fit their needs. That is, classically speaking, a common form of lying.
I am perfectly comfortable with what I have written. Is there something that makes you uncomfortable with being compared with Radical Islam?
#36 “You know, the ones that enable you to view jihadists as innocent victims”
Show me where I have ever said that or shut up. I realize you can’t do either of course. Every ignorant statement you make just proves that what some say about conservatives is true. Not all conservatives, just the ones who have left reality way behind and wouldn’t know the truth if it slapped them on the face. I can’t think of much more “amateur” than blatantly lying.
#37
Stand by it all you want, it’s still ignorant. It is simply impossible to make a statement “liberals believe” because there are many who can be called liberals and all with vastly different views on issue. Y’all bitch when anyone says “conservatives are” so it’s hypocritical for you to do the same. Not only that but it’s basically just a lie. It doesn’t bother me that you would make that comparison because it’s totally foolish and a sign that you are unable to look at some things rationally. You often write intelligent well thought out comments on here, that makes it even more disappointing to read such total sh*t.
OK, let’s take on the broad brush assignation. What is there in the liberal agenda in the United States that DOES NOT involve using government and the force of government to make non liberals obey the progressive/liberal doctrine?
You may list only three initiatives, just to make it easy.
By the way, a different Dave, I would not call your thinking “ignorant” or sewer worthy, because that type of toxic invective is self defeating. Since you liberals want control of my life and soul with your socialistic government and moral relativism, I find it doubly insulting when you curse my intellect and/or good nature with expressions of disdain.
#31
“Here is where I draw a direct parallel between radical Islam and the left in America. Each thrive on a toxic hatred of those they condemn. Each can ignore the hypocrisy of their fellows if the means suit their agenda. They will lie and weasel at will, because lying and weaseling to the enemy is useful and necessary to gain and hold control.”
This is what I consider ignorant and worth flushing. It has nothing to do with how they view the gov’t or anything else. It’s just nasty baseless condemnation of a whole group of people. Certainly it applies to some, not only on the left but on the right as well, which many on here ignore or justify.
My point is plain and simple – you CANNOT condemn the left without condemning the same behavior on the right. You CANNOT make claims about ALL of any group of people when it comes to political/religious beliefs. Well, you can do these things but it’s based on bias not fact.
You can’t even get through one comment without throwing in another ridiculous attack on liberals and then you claim what I say is insulting? Please!
and yet Dave never does…
OK, a different Dave would like a parsing of this statement I made and stand by:
If a different Dave is arguing that he can produce a liberal or two in America who are so out of touch with politics and so enamored of the commune ideal while being just peachy sweet flower children, then I cede the point. I am not addressing the ashram set.
Anyone who watches the broadcast channels. reads the MSM, goes to the movies, attends public meetings, or otherwise encounters liberals can not escape their steady drum beat of lying by omission, selective hearing, weasel words dependency, blatant hypocrisy, and piling on of bombast without ever addressing a point.
You state:
See what I mean? You have attempted to take control of the debate without addressing the issue. I will cede the “ALL” point. I will cede that some misdirected people on the right try to play the same games people on the left play. However, people on the left catch gays and felons and cheats and liars and morons and wafflers and blacks on the right and they tar and feather them. That is not based on bias, it is fact and names can be named.
Liberal gays come on this site (which attracts political speech) and they make really amazing statements that are more hallucinatory than realistic. Others express what the “want” and “feel” and stay to argue. But in the end, liberals on this sire want the power of government and the force of government to cause it to happen. To impose what the want and feel on the rest of society.
If liberals were all of the ashram type, we could treat them like the Amish. We could watch them wear their flip-flops in the snow, we could buy their cheese, we could marvel at the names of their children. They could be a national cultural treasure. But liberals are focused on the power of government and growing the tentacles of government into each little niche of life. Sort of like radical Islam, except liberals have a far less well defined set of rules.
Hey, what is this?
I clearly made and meant to make an attack on liberals. You are one who is calling the attack ridiculous. You have yet to show how and why it is ridiculous. Obviously, you have been insulted by my attack. I did not mean to insult you, I meant to hit you squarely between the eyes. Would you care to have an actual, logical debate? I am prepared. Here are the rules: no weasel words, no innuendo, no lying by omission, no selective reading, no hypocrisy, no clogging the process with toxic charges dumping, no false claims as premise.
There are two types of statements. #1) Normative statements which are about what you believe. They are not worth arguing. You can’t. #2) Positive statements which are based on fact. They are the basis of all argument. You sort out the facts.
Liberals in America want government to control the lives of Americans. Radical Islamists want to control the lives of Americans and everyone else in the world. Would you care to debate this man to man without bringing your thin skin to the proceedings?
#38 – Not to pile on to Bilbo but here goes:
“Show me where I have ever said that [about radical jihadists] or shut up. I realize you can’t do either of course.”
Wrong, Bilbo. Your response to helio was saying that you disagreed with his assessment of liberals and Islam and that you didn’t trust his assertions. Ergo, you defended both liberalism and Islam. Checkmate.
Next jewel:
“Every ignorant statement you make just proves that what some say about conservatives is true. Not all conservatives, just the ones who have left reality way behind and wouldn’t know the truth if it slapped them on the face. I can’t think of much more “amateur†than blatantly lying.”
For starters, who are these “some people” you are referencing? The inside-the-Beltway-cocktail-party-reporters? The no-name-faceless-cowards-on-Dailykos-or-Huffpo? I call BS on that remark unless you can show proof.
And as Bruce, Dan, helio, TGC, V da K, ILC, John and others can fully attest, I don’t lie on this board. I may get bitchy and bent out of shape over some liberals’ so-called thought processes, and maybe I just fire from the hip a bit too often (it’s the Texan in me), but I don’t lie.
However, I think you should stick around the board and keep up your pointless observations and whining diatribes. It makes illustrating idiocy that much more vibrant.

Peter H.
