This is just another example of the inconsistencies of the Roman Church. They have a leftward bent which has given rise to liberation theology. Even today here in El Salvador the catholics are endorsing the communist FMLN for president while it is the evangelicals who stand for democracy and capitalism. They Roman Church is adamant in their condemnation of homosexuality as being sinful and contrary to the Scriptures. Yet, they condemn nations which follow the biblical injunction to administer capital punishment for murder. For this, the hierarchy displays a liberal bleeding heart. Of course, most denominations have a buffet mentality as to what parts of the Bible they accept or reject. I do applaud the evangelicals for their unswerving support for Israel and that God will prosper those who do. So letÂ´s hope that our support will bring a rapid turn around in our economy.

Re the Vatican: it would take a lot to convince me that their attitude is not anti-semitic. I just don’t think this is simply (ill-informed and obtuse) “Christian” concern for the down-trodden.

Salient point, Peter H. Read anything re: Nazis and Pope Pius XII, and one will find collusion at worst and apathy at best. Also, National Socialism required a passive Church in order to press other ideological points, ie: “Kinder, Kuche und Kirche”

The Vatican didn’t protest the invasion and defilement of the Church of the Nativity by Palistinan terrorists.

I don’t recall a condemnation of the destruction of the tomb of Joseph, or the persecution of the Christian minority.

And it wasn’t until very recently that the Vatican even RECOGNIZED Israel, much less defended it.

Which has been never. Remember, this is the same Vatican that assisted Nazis to escape to South America after World War II.
