No “O” Keys Missing from White House Computers?

Something tells me that as President Obama’s staff settles into their offices in the West Wing and Old Executive Office Building, they will find their computer keyboards intact.

Just another (comparative) reminder of the grace former President Bush’s Republican staffers showed to their Democratic succesors.

  1. It’ll be great when we have the transition-inauguration where all the ‘S’ (or maybe ‘P’) keys are found to have been removed from the keyboards by petty, spiteful Obama staffers.

  3. The Obama people are complaining that Bush’s staff somehow disabled the public comments telephone line coming into the White House. They have to be kidding. I didn’t even know that such a thing still existed.

The Clinton vandalism story is bogus. Even Bush’s people had to admit it was false.

Looks like idiot wingers will believe anything though.

  5. Sorry, Cokane, the story is not bogus at all. Follow the link in my post which confirms it.

  7. The Clinton trolls ripped the W’s off computer key boards, pulled hard line phone line wires out of the walls, and flung pizza against the walls of the west wing. Typically classless behavior of leftists.

  8. from your link dan–

The accounting office said similar pranks were reported in prior transitions, including the one from Mr. Bush’s father to Mr. Clinton in 1993. ”We were unable to conclude,” it said, ”whether the 2001 transition was worse than previous ones.”

  10. Rusty, I was waiting for someone to catch that line. :-)

Note the word “pranks” in that passage while the report acknowledges vandalism in 2001. The authors of the report may have be “unable to conclude” much of anything, but the evidence they provide is pretty clear. And the fact that they provide no evidence of vandalism in previous transitions.

The point remains. “W” keys were removed or vandalized in 2001. There is no evidence (as of yet) of “O” keys removed this year.

  12. When told of the vandalism, Bush 43 told the investigators to move on and not prosecute anyone. One of his first efforts to be magnanimous. How’d that work out for him?

    Repeat for eight years.

  19. Cokane, and other libs,

Looks like its time for a little lesson on how the liberal media handles the truth. You are correct that the media reported that the Clinton vandalism never really happened and that they cite the GAO report as evidence.

PLEASE keep in mind this is exactly how they dealt with the 9/11 Commission report, the senate select intelligence committee report and basically every report and court ruling that came out for the past 8 years….

Here is what the conclusion of the GAO report ACTUALLY says:

“Damage, theft, vandalism, and pranks occurred in the White House complex during the 2001 presidential transition. Incidents such as the removal of keys from computer keyboards; the theft of various items; the leaving of certain voice mail messages, signs, and written messages; and the placing of glue on desk drawers clearly were intentional acts. However, it was unknown whether other observations, such as broken furniture, were the result of intentional acts, when and how they occurred, or who
may have been responsible for them. Further, with regard to stolen items, such as the presidential seal, because no one witnessed the thefts and many people were in the White House complex during the transition, it was not known who was responsible for taking them. Moreover, regarding other items reported missing, such as doorknobs, cellular telephones, and
television remote controls, it was unknown whether all of them were thefts, and if they were, who was responsible for taking those items and when they were taken. Further complicating our attempt to determine the amount of damage that may have occurred was the lack of documentation directly corroborating some observations and our inability to reconcile certain observations only a few hours apart in locations where some people saw damage, vandalism, or pranks and where others saw none.”

Which makes it patently clear that Salon and the rest of the liberal media were blatantly lying.

So how is it that the liberal media claimed to be citing the report as evidence? They intentionally ignored the conclusion outright, dug through the text of the report, and found this quote, which was given before the investigation even took place, and took the part they quote out of that context to make it sound as though they were saying that there was no vandalism by the clintons when all they were really saying was no one had recorded it yet:

We subsequently asked EOP and the General Services Administration (GSA) whether they had any information that may be responsive to your request. On April 18, 2001, the director of the Office of Administration (OA),1 an EOP unit, wrote us a letter indicating that the White House had no record of damage that may have been deliberately caused by employees of the prior [a]dministration and that .repair records do not contain information that would allow someone to determine the cause of damage that is being repaired

The full GAO report is Here.

This is how the liberal media behaves on a regular basis, its how they reported on the 9/11 investigations, its how they reported the Iraq war, its how they report court decisions, its how they report katrina, its how they report everything, so that ignorant rubes such as yourselves will swallow it whole and keep pulling that Democrat lever.

Lies and the lying liars who tell them…. are liberals.

  20. Well said, AE. The bottom line, for me, is this: ANYONE who feels compelled to destroy property that is paid for by the taxpayers should be punished for it. There is absolutely no reason to make the American People foot the bill for immature fits of vandalism and temper tantrums. It boils down to being a responsible, respectful person–and isn’t that what Obama talked about in his Inaugural Address? Being responsible for your actions?

It would seem that the outgoing administration has more respect for the transition process and their successors than Clinton’s people ever had.

  22. OMG. I know this is an overly broad generalization, but… conservatives just don’t do humor. That said, I will give Bush the same credit I’ve given him through his presidency: he and Laura are both graceful people. While the Blair House-thing may not have measured up to the standards they set for themselves, they have otherwise been very cordial, polite and graceful during the transition. Beyond that… I’m sorry… you’re obsessing over keyboard keys? And… what? That somehow impunes all liberals, as opposed to just some Clinton staffers who were pulling a practical joke? Yeesh.

Um, who the hell represents liberals if not their own freaking administration??? And it was a lot more than keyboard keys, it was vandalized offices, furniture, I think the report says they did well over $100,000 damage.

  28. Michael Medved made a great point yesterday talking about a recent interview of Helen Thomas. She said she was born a liberal, has always been a liberal and will die a liberal.

Medved pointed out that we are all born liberals. We are born needing to be nursed, changed, and completely taken care of by others. Its just that some of us grow up.

  29. AE chronicles the $100,000 vandalism, and didn’t mention the millions of dollars of furniture, portraits etc taken by the Clintons. After this was discovered, the staff embarassed, asked that they be returned. They really didn’t think the Clintons would try to take off with Lincolns bed, Washintons writing desk etc. The Clinton White House was very very different. Setting very low standards. From interns to vandalism to thievery.

  33. The Bushes,(43) had the moving van in early and were all moved out well before Inauguration Day, except for a couple of suitcases, as a convenience for the Obamas. I don’t think that there was ever such a gracious and classy transition before.
The Bushes went far out of their way to make it easy for the Obamas, and to do what they could to prepare them for the transition. Staff was asked to work with the transition staff. They were repaid with digs in the inaugural speech, and classless stuff posted on the White House website.
