Did Obama Campaign on a 10% Defense Cut?

January 31, 2009 by GayPatriotWest

Well, we’ve found one area of the federal budget President Obama doesn’t want to increase. “The Obama administration has asked the military’s Joint Chiefs of Staff to cut the Pentagon’s budget request for the fiscal year 2010 by more than 10 percent — about $55 billion.”

Now, I’m not aware of the Democratic nominee campaigning last fall on cutting the defense budget. In the first debate, focusing on foreign policy/national security issues, he all but echoed John McCain, assuring voters that there wouldn’t be much of a difference between the two men on defense. Now, we see there is.  A huge one.  Huge.

As Environmental Republican put it, “he’s cutting the military budget…in the midst of two wars.“  Let me repeat, cutting the military budget in the midst of two wars.  Now, I’m beginning to wonder if the president understands the commander-in-chief aspects of his job.

Did Obama Campaign on a 10% Defense Cut?

Not directly, perhaps, but one can’t help but conclude that he campaigned on castrating the military and the U.S.

First, I’ll stop spending $9 billion a month in Iraq. I’m the only major candidate who opposed this war from the beginning. And as president I will end it.[ie, not *win* it]

Second, I will cut tens of billions of dollars in wasteful spending.

I will cut investments in unproven missile defense systems.

    I will not weaponize space.

I will slow our development of future combat systems.

And I will institute an independent “Defense Priorities Board” to ensure that the Quadrennial Defense Review is not used to justify unnecessary spending.

Third, I will set a goal of a world without nuclear weapons. To seek that goal, I will not develop new nuclear weapons; I will seek a global ban on the production of fissile material; and I will negotiate with Russia to take our ICBMs off hair-trigger alert, and to achieve deep cuts in our nuclear arsenals.

When he says that he will slow the development of future combat systems, he’s saying that he will not spend a dime on giving our military the tools they need.

He says that he will not “weaponize space”. Meanwhile, the Chinese and a slew of other countries are racing forward to do so. Remember when the ChiComms shot down one of our satellites? Chairman Obama wants them to get a leg up on us.

So yeah, he campaigned on castrating the military and cutting our defenses by at least 10%. What’s more, it would be asinine to suggest that that’s as far as he would go.

Understand it? He doesnt NEED to understand it. Obama is an arrogant ideologue who has publicly stated he thinks the constitution flawed because it doesnt give the federal government enough power over the individual and tells the commanders of war the way its going to be before he even meets with them.

Did he campaign on it? Of course not! He hid it, obfuscated and lied about it to the general public, even though he was on tape promising to do just that to his left wing nutroots.

Obama is a community organizer. Let us all understand exactly what that means. America is the community and each of us is the “organizee.” We are now being organized.

Those in the politburo do the central planning and channel the programs. They are given a higher level of attention and favor because they are essential to the organization process.

Those outside the politburo are the general “organizees.” They are the recipients of the community organization. Their product is the raw material of the community organization process. Each “organizee” produces what he will and in turn receives what he needs as determined by the politiburo, acting as the machinery of community organization.

Since the politburo can only distribute what it collects and prints out of thin air, the needs envisioned by the “organizee” and the reality of what can be provided may be vastly different.

The military is a huge devourer of resources. One armored vehicle could provide a great deal of small packages of support for the politburo and the general commuity organization process if it is distributed strategically to certain pockets of “organizees”.

The ACORN Army is far more important to the community organization strategy and defense of the community organization system than the Department of Defense. In the grand scheme of things, who is going to want to conquer a failed economy which is mired in debt? Canada?

There are many years of high living for the politburo before their community organization reaches the level of Cuba. The long period of stagnation and decline in France is the better model to study. France has a nuclear aircraft carrier it can not afford to get running again and it has not yet decided to dismantle. France putters along on the memory of its past and a blind eye to its dying future.

The community organization of the United States is ceding the Pacific to the Chinese. Without the United States, there are no teeth in NATO. The Community Organizer in Chief made it clear that we will not weaponize space. “Weaponize” has the same possibility for broad definition as “torture.” Spying from space could easily be considered a form of weaponization. (“Open covenants, openly arrived at” and all other such League of Nations high minded taffy pulling and fudge making.)

For the true community organizer, the military need not be much more than Hamas, the Egyptian Brotherhood, La Raza, Friends of Che, the SDS, ACORN, the Weatherman or any group of determined Obamanauts.

The role of defense is for the system, not the country. For the community organizer, the system trumps nationality.

Leftist Democrats do what they do. Carter, Clinton and now Obama gutt the military. We are weaker for it. We get attacked and taken advantage of. (Iranian hostage crisis, Carter/ Cole and embassy bombings and WTC #1, Clinton). It is then left up to Republican Presidents to reassert American power (Reagan/Bush 41&43)
Democrats feel the attacks can be sustained and are regretable but social programs are more important to their base.
But Republican Presidents FREE oppressed peoples. Eastern Europe and 50 Million Arabs and Muslims. It is funny how conservative Republicans are viewed as the selfish ones.

If we just get rid our military altogether, then we can use part of the savings to pay our enemies to not attack us, and the rest to pay the energy bill at the White House.

Meanwhile, Pelosi, Obama, and Reid will spend billions to buy up and crush SUVs, carbon capture “contests,” abortions, mafia museums, green energy projects that will go nowhere, and bailouts to financially irresponsible states and cities.

It’s this type of mentality that got us into our current budget mess.

Forcing lenders to accept unemployment and foodstamps as “income” had absolutely nothing to do with it. The fact that Henry Waxman refuses to investigate that matter proves it.

Yeah, who believes those pesky calls to attack American interests anyway?

and instead of doing the responsible thing, paying for it with tax increases or budget cuts, you put it on credit.

Tax increases which have been shown to retard cash flow. Somehow, record revenues to the treasury just doesn’t get it when the Proles should be punished. One would think that Geitner, Daschle etc. Would be the first to show how it’s done.

with over 250,000 personnel deployed in a total of 156 countries (2008 estimates).

I’ll be damned. I thought we were supposed to believe that ALL of our servince personnel were in Iraq. Are you sure that’s right?

Perhaps, allowing the OIL RICH sovereign nation we are occupying

You mean the United States? I agree. We could make almost $2 TRILLION and add thousands of new jobs if liberals would let us drill for oil and it won’t take 7-10 years to make that money either.

Gee, seems like a good idea to me.

Me too, not to mention the majority of Americans. However, you support the party that gives the middle finger to the American people and goes on summer vacation instead of doing “the will of the people” as promissed.

Then maybe we can strengthen our DEFENSE BUDGET

Oh if only liberals gave a shit about our defense budget, I might be inclined to say that you’re on to something.

and bolster our Special Ops who are better at sniffing out and destroying terrorists than cluster bombs will ever be.

I think OHnut is one of those people who gets some kind of catharsis by spewing insults and dumb talking points at people he doesn’t agree with but is too gutless to face in person. Trying to engage him is futile, but refuting his talking points is useful to those who read the comments and have some synapses that work.

YOU ARE ALL WRONG. Obama is increasing defense spending. See Glenn Greenwald’s story today at Salon.com, which totally debunks the myth you’re all getting into a tizzy about.
