Obama Keeps Terror Rendition Policy

Pop.  Pop.  Pop.  Pop.   That’s the sound of heads exploding from San Fran to Seattle by leftists who want to protect Al Qaeda, not Americans.

Obama preserves renditions as counter-terrorism tool – LA Times (h/t – The Corner)

The CIA’s secret prisons are being shuttered. Harsh interrogation techniques are off-limits. And Guantanamo Bay will eventually go back to being a wind-swept naval base on the southeastern corner of Cuba.

But even while dismantling these programs, President Obama left intact an equally controversial counter-terrorism tool.

Under executive orders issued by Obama recently, the CIA still has authority to carry out what are known as renditions, secret abductions and transfers of prisoners to countries that cooperate with the United States.

Current and former U.S. intelligence officials said that the rendition program might be poised to play an expanded role going forward because it was the main remaining mechanism — aside from Predator missile strikes — for taking suspected terrorists off the street.

The rendition program became a source of embarrassment for the CIA, and a target of international scorn, as details emerged in recent years of botched captures, mistaken identities and allegations that prisoners were turned over to countries where they were tortured.

The European Parliament condemned renditions as “an illegal instrument used by the United States.” Prisoners swept up in the program have sued the CIA as well as a Boeing Co. subsidiary accused of working with the agency on dozens of rendition flights.

But the Obama administration appears to have determined that the rendition program was one component of the Bush administration’s war on terrorism that it could not afford to discard.

That’s funny, I thought the American Left told me it was one of the WORST parts of “Bush’s War.”  In fact, wasn’t there even a leftist Hollyweird movie, that made little, called “RENDITION”.   My, oh my.

Pop.  Pop.  Pop.

Score one positive mark for President Obama.

Exit Question: Will the anti-Bush liberals who comment at GayPatriot now support this terror-fighting tool?  Or are they just tools?

  2. Contrary to the Los Angeles Times , Harsh interrogation techniques (torture) and secret prisons are NOT off limits — Obama is keeping those too:

However, Obama’s changes may not be absolute. His advisers are considering adding a classified loophole to the rules that could allow the CIA to use some interrogation methods not specifically authorized by the Pentagon, the officials said. …

For Obama, who repeatedly insisted during the 2008 presidential campaign and the transition period that “America doesn’t torture,” a classified loophole would allow him to follow through on his promise to end harsh interrogations while retaining a full range of presidential options in conducting the war against terrorism.

The proposed loophole, which could come in the form of a classified annex to the manual, is designed to satisfy intelligence experts who fear that an outright ban of so-called enhanced interrogation techniques would limit the government in obtaining threat information that could save American lives. It would also preserve Obama’s flexibility to authorize any interrogation tactics he might deem necessary for national security.

In other words, the US will never ever ever ever ever tortire… UNLESS we decide its necessary.

Likewise, Obama has left a loophole that allow for “temporary” secret overseas prisons.

To translate for all our leftard friends: Obama approves torture, Obama approves secret prisons, Obama approves secret-rendition and all the Democrats know about it. They approve it because, contrary to their treasonous rhetoric undermining their own country during wartime for partisan gain, they have known all along (as the FISA court reaffirmed last August confirming the constitutionality of warrantless wiretaps) that President Bush was behaving entirely constitutionally and doing what was necessary for national security.

Are you going to call for Obama and Democrats to be prosecuted for war crimes now?

  20. Kevin. I am one of those armed chair “patriots” I served in the army from 1942 to 1946. Are you asking why I am not in the military service now? Actually, while I was in uniform, there were lots more people doing more important work to end the war than I was and they were not in uniform. So you don’t have to be in uniform to be a patriot.

That you cite Miss Milky Loads as an “adult” let alone a source only proves you are the one with no interest in facts. Sullivan is only slightly less credible than the DailyKos.

Unfortunately Richard Clarke disagrees with you and agrees with me regarding Obama and extraordinary rendition.

Incidentally, isn’t Miss Milky Loads the one who hyperventilated that even threatening rendition was torture? His contortions are worthy of the freakiest of freak shows, but alas, I think even they demand a higher degree of integrity.
