Another Obama Appointee Fails to Pay Taxes

Obama performance chief Killefer out, citing taxes.  As least Ms. Killefer “resolved” her tax issue before Obama tapped her.

If she withdraws her nomination due to a tax lien of less than $1,000, shouldn’t Daschle do the same for more than $100,000 in unpaid taxes?  And if he doesn’t, Republicans need follow thier new national chairman’s adivce and fight this nomination.

UPDATE:  A reader writes in:

3 nominees in 10 days who failed to pay back taxes. This is becoming a laugh riot….and I LOVE IT!!! So much for an open, honest, and ethical government with “shared burdens and responsibilites.” Of course, god forbid the media actually label them hypocrites. To them, it was a “simple mistake.” Any average Joe who did what these people did would be thrown in jail.

UPDATE: It’s official: Daschle withdraws as nominee for HHS secretary.

  1. Drudge is calling it a “Circus” and reports that Daschle is dropping out (will he be face charges? we can only hope}. This is “Experience” and “Judgement”. It’s only been about two weeks and this administration looks more like a gaggle of clowns every day. Unfortunately, the country has to pay for this for the next four years. I fully expect, and hope, that the so called stimulus package dies the death it deserves in the Senate. Imagine the horror of a new president failing to get the first piece of his legislation through a senate controlled by his own party. Think the MSM will cover it???

  2. I don’t share the glee. This saddens me because it implies there are many, many more just like them all avoiding the tax burden they have worked so hard to impose on us simply because their connections allow them to do so. When it takes a nomination to a high-level post to clean up one’s personal finances and only for the purposes of public opinion so that one can affect the laws even further to one’s favor, we know it’s time for a revolution. I believe we’ve reached the point where there are so many consituents relying on some form of public spending that those who exist on their own steam are now permanently outnumbered.

I wonder how difficult it is to get Irish citizenship.

  3. These are all distractions to the REAL issue: the “stimulus” bill.

The HR bill will nearly DOUBLE the non-expense expenditure of the entire federal budget in a single bill – that is being ramrodded through Congress with no debate or substantiation that it will be beneficial. And nobody can honestly believe that once these new programs are started that they will be sunsetted in a year or two. It will permanently lift the baseline spending of the national government.

And Republicans focusing on small expenditures they oppose in the bill are just buying into the argument that we need to double the federal government’s size.

  4. I just heard Obama picked Marc Rich for HHS and Bill Ayers for Performance Chief.

After they are rejected for failing to pay taxes he’s picking Michael Moore.

  5. Oh Obama, what happened to rewiring America? To electric, hybrid and dual-fuel CNG cars and trucks? To wind-farming and natural-gas power generation to reduce foreign oil imports? Not even a Democratic-version of a “Contract with America”. To Change itself?

It’s just more of the same; pork, left-wing social programs, Pelosi and Reid divisionism, and the politics of destruction Appointment Hearings-style.

  6. I wonder why so many folks are acting surprised. No one, repeat, no one, can rise in Chicago politics without the help of The Outfit, what other areas call the mob.

The last Democrat administration was run by a feller from Hot Springs, Arkansas. Hot Springs was a wholely owned subsidiary of the national mob, much like Las Vegas it was a place for crooks to go to relax. The Democrats have been crooks for decades. Not that the Republicans are too much better.

What, did anybody really believe the “Man From Hope” nonsense?

  9. I think I´m getting it now, finally. If you are a Republican and you love democracy in general and America in particular; you must pay taxes. If you are a Democrat, the more radical left, the better and you hate America, criticize its foreign policy, and loathe Republicans, especially Bush, then you are tax exempt, if not in fact at least in deed.

  10. Of COURSE Ms. Killefer had to withdraw. Remember what the Dems and the MSM did to Joe the Plumber for HIS tax lien. Do we really want Ms. Killefer to have to go through that??

    Comment by Polly — February 3, 2009 @ 7:21 pm - February 3, 2009

  11. Didn’t Joe Biden say that paying taxes is patriotism? Aren’t these people confirming their lack of patriotism? Won’t that soon be a headline in the New York Times?

Yes indeed, I look forward to that. Naturally, I won’t hold my breath.

As the number of Democrats who don’t pay their taxes grows, will someone please suggest that the Democrats in Congress should all be audited? I’m certainly enjoying their various explanations/excuses. My favorite, still, is “Those people all speak Spanish and I could never figure out what they were saying.” (Wasn’t that Rangel, on his offshore income?)

  12. Can you believe the first two weeks of this administration? Talk about incompetent boobs and dolts. Obama seemed to take pride today in admitting the Dashel debacle was his fault. That he wanted so much to have an experienced hand at HHS to shepherd health care reform thru Congress. I agree totally that after all these nominees tax problems, an IRS audit of all Congressional and administration Democrats is warranted. Unless of course tax scofflaw Geightner, supresses or covers up the results. Remember when Obama said his administration would be open and the age of responsibility was here? What a joke. Let’s play that over and over and over on Letterman, Hardball, and Meet the Depressed. Shouldn’t the chief executive FIRE the people responsible for choosing these crooks? Was Rahm Emmanual involved? I noted yesterday the ex Mayor of Detroit, Democrat, Kilpatrick was released from jail. He is available for HHS or the “productivity czar” posts. hehe
Productivity czar……Ms Killefer was the most qualified , according to Obama, to make the government more productive and to make things run smooth. HER HOUSE HAD TAX LIENS PLACED ON IT! For non payment of past taxes. Are we through the looking glass here? Are these people serious? Obama will choose Republican Senator Judd Gregg for Sec of Commerce. His first nominee, Gov Richardson had to withdraw and crawl back to NM while we await his indictment in pay to play scandals. Was Obamas list of clean Democrats completely exhausted? That he had to pick a Republican?
If I’m not mistaken the country has 1446 days to survive these incompetent morons. Thank goodness Obama kept Defense Sec Gates on board from the Bush administration. Otherwise we might not be able to sleep knowing the nutts were in charge of our safety as well.
I like how today there is agreement that the HOUSE pork bill is so horrific that even the Dems in the Senate are laughing and appalled at the Pelosi nightmare.

  13. Yes Polly taking Bidens definition of Patriotism, there are a lot of unpatriotic Dems in this administration. We need a task force to root out all the other Democrat tax scofflaws. Time to call for a 100% audit of all the Congressional Dems. Wonder how many millions we could swell the treasury by. Obama should be the one spearheading that initiative. Let’s have an open and honest administration. Change Hope yada yada hehe

  15. On the day when TWO of his nominees had to skank away as crooks and creeps, the President and Ms Obama go to…….
school to chat with 7 year olds. Yes. Was he looking for more members of his cabinet, there couldn’t be any tax cheats in a class of 7 year olds. No, they just wanted to get out of the White House for a change of pace. “Damn dude, how about getting to work and trying to make a difference. maybe if you concentrated a little more on your job, you wouldn’t have all these embarrassing mistakes and boobs in your administration.” Super bowl parties, interviews with all the networks, how bout focusing a bit on your job Mr Obama.

  17. Actually, I find it quite refreshing that a President goes on TV, speaks to three different networks, and not only says “I screwed up” but cops to not living up to the standards he stated for his office. That’s not only a change after the last eight years, but the eight years before that.

The stimulus bill is still dead due to pork though. Don’t think he’s going to be able to fix that in the short term.

  18. Jody I for one don’t want a President who is on TV constantly admitting he’s a boob and is running an incompetent administration. He chose his transition team that picked these appointees. We’ll see how “refreshing” this is during his SECOND two weeks on the job. (If I’m Obamas friends, I’m starting to look at how many Clintonites were involved in the transition team and how many Clintonites were responsible for the vetting of all these crooks. Mr Obama may have been set up.)

  19. Actually, I find it quite refreshing that a President goes on TV, speaks to three different networks, and not only says “I screwed up” but cops to not living up to the standards he stated for his office.

Of course he screwed up. The better question here is why he was so incredibly arrogant or stupid that he spent an entire campaign railing about the necessity of paying taxes and calling those who opposed tax increases unpatriotic, personally orchestrated a smear job on a person who dared to question him over their tax lien, and then not only nominated not one, not two, but THREE tax cheats.

And as for your finding it “refreshing”, Jody, you and yours were finding his going on TV and whining about how these things about Daschle and Geithner were “distractions” that didn’t matter to be “refreshing”. No matter what kind of swill Obama serves you, you’ll call it caviar and beg for more. You simply aren’t capable of either looking past his skin color or admitting that he’s a hypocrite.

  20. Gene reminds us that Bambi

chose his transition team that picked these appointees.

He chose Princess Caroline, ya know, to, um, ya know, um, pick Biden, ya know.

Bambi is having trouble with the old learning curve, don’cha know.
