Pam & Blaine, I just donated some $$$ to assist you in KY from here in Houston, the epicenter of Hurricane Ike. Having lived through two weeks without power last September, I feel for you both.

Just ignore little Kevvie – if it weren’t for his daily talking memes from HuffPo, DK and the DNCMSM, he wouldn’t have a reason to get up in the morning. He is about as useful in an emergency as a bicycle is to a fish.

It’s kind of hard to look at a website to find out how to get assistance if your power is out. Declaring a state a disaster area so it can receive assistance is fine and dandy, but Obama could have done that in his sleep. I think the point being made here is that there is quite obviously a double standard. One for whites and one for blacks. One for republicans and one for democrats. I am amazed as well that there hasn’t been one damn peep out of ANY news organization about the situation in Kentucky. I also agree with #3. Keep drama queens Shep and Geraldo as far away from there as possible.

I don’t remember any network anchors covering the devastating flooding in Iowa, Illinois and Missouri this past summer either. Whole sections of towns (Cedar Rapids, Palo, Oakville, Iowa City, Gulfport, etc.) are still uninhabitable with little national news since. I have seen several programs on New Orleans (and nothing on the Mississippi towns also devastated) and its recovery, but Kentucky will be forgotten like the rest.

I live in the heart of Kentucky which now looks like a Hurricane came through. Not many homes were destroyed but over 208,000 people are still without Electricity (down from approx 708,000 last tuesday) and wind chills tonight are going to be about 15 below 0, Lastest count 24 people have died due to weather related deaths in KY. And All I have heard from FEMA is “Our water is now safe to drink”

You have no idea what’s going on in Kentucky. I was in Kentucky until a couple of days ago and can tell you that, in western Kentucky, we saw no one from FEMA, the Red Cross or the National Guard until after Saturday. The storm hit Monday night and the power went out in the wee hours of Tuesday morning.

Over 85% of the people in my home county had no power. Of the two larger towns, one had no businesses with power; the other had two restaurants. There was very little kerosene available and that ran out quickly. Gas stations had no power to pump gas for the first several days until a few obtained generators. You had to use cash for everything and no banks were able to open.

Some people in rural areas were trapped because of all the large branches blocking their driveways. By Thursday, the temperature in my parents’ house was 43 degrees.

I’m not saying you should depend upon the government to take care of you. However, FEMA, its Kentucky counterpart and Steve Beshear weren’t doing a damn thing to help. They’re lying about it. Maybe Louisville and Lexington were getting all kinds of help but the western part of the state was on its own.

I’m sorry, but could you all quote / link to articles showing that is being done or that people are begging for help that isn’t coming? Can you show some area of Kentucky that has been substantially destroyed because of the weather or due to to something that the government didn’t build properly? The president declared both Kentucky and Arkansas disaster areas back on 1/29 and they are receiving assistance. The current FEMA page has a full detailing of help getting to the area. I find it particularly funny that Michelle Malkin takes a whack at the president, yet she then gives examples of how the systems are working.

So, aside from the whiny, anti-obama sore losers here, who exactly is clamoring for the president to make an appearance? Doesn’t seem to be any and you know why? Because the work that is needed is being done by all kinds of people helping out.

So far there are 40 dead from the KY TN ice storms. Exactly how many must die while Obama fiddles? Obama was having a super bowl party and people died. How sad. I’m not too proud of my new young President. I had such high hopes. All dashed in two weeks.

Meredith, just checked; you’re right about the site. It does reference Kentucky storms in 2003.

So, we learn two things from that:

(1) Double check the sites you find when you google for something when blogging in haste
(2) FEMA in 2003 (under then-President Bush) was more on the ball than it is today. Then, it provided a list of private agencies providing relief; today, under his Democratic successor, it does not.
