“Evil Republicans” Opposing “Stimulus”

Just a few moments ago, while at my local Trader Joe’s getting my weekly supply of groceries, I overheard a woman bemoan “evil Republicans” in a rather audible tone.

No longer closeted about my politics in this “bluest” of enclaves, I said she should careful of what she said since I was a Republican.  Startled to find dissent in the heart of Hollywood, she said, oh, but not you, just but those Republicans “on the Hill.”  Well, I responded, they’re standing up for the taxpayers.

Now, this woman certainly has a right to her opinion and to express her criticism of Republicans in whatever language she deems appropriate.  And I might just dismiss her as some eccentric in the supermarket who used hyperbolic language to describe her political adversaries.  But, the mean-spirited language she uses corresponds with that I read in anonymous* e-mails from critics alerting me to posts on left-wing blogs

Why is it that so many on the left must describe their political adversaries as “evil” while accusing conservatives of playing the politics of hate?

And why need these people so berate Republicans when Democrats control both Houses of Congress–and the White House?  They could pass the “stimulus” without a single Republican vote.

RELATED: How Is It the GOP’s Fault if the Democrats Can’t Pass Their Stimulus?

*I describe them as anonymous because if I ever try writing them back, my response bounces.

  1. Republicans are “evil” in this case (opposing the Great Porkfest) because some of them are daring to tell the truth.

  2. Republicans are evil because of George Bush. Didn’t you know? He single handedly ruined our economy, is the reason I couldn’t find a parking space today, why the polar bears are having such a tough time, and now that I think about it, he’s probably the reason that the democrats don’t pay their taxes. It’s his fault. I’m telling you.

Oh, and I forgot, when I stubbed my toe the other day–Bush’s fault.

Forevermore we will all be considered evil. But then again, I’d rather be evil than an ignorant democrat.

As an aside: I found this website by accident today when I had nothing better to do. It made my day.I’m not a gay republican, but I feel at home nonetheless. My next four years in fact, to know that there are still some honest, poignant, genius people out there putting the most eloquent of words to each and every one of my thoughts. Thanks for that.

  3. The Great Porkfest if the fit name for this stimulus package.

I also think that before any stimulus package is passed I am of the opinion that all 535 members of congress should have their tax returns audited for the last three years.

  4. Well the messiah looks very tarnished and small these days, it can’t be his fault that he has feet of clay. Of course it’s all the fault of those evil Republicans.

Dan, good for you for speaking up in public, I’m getting better, but I’m not quite there yet.

  5. Obama has decided to use the “scare tactics” that he accused Bush of using over the last 8 years to get the American public to support this pork spending plan! I believe that Obama is spinning out of control and is already showing signs of failure and lack of leadership. I want him to be successful, but he is not taking the right approach. I do NOT agree with the bailout plan and do not want it to pass. As for Obama, he is living up to all of the reasons that I did not vote for him!

  6. I don’t think “pork” adequately describes what’s going on in Washington. I think more of the beast in the South Park “Trapper Keeper” episode.

    Bad pie! Bad pie!

  7. Exactly right, RB! That is what has been going through my mind about
President Obama. Always with “hope and change” yet say if HIS so-called economic “stimulus” plan does not pass, we are in for a “catastrophe”! PLEASE! We are in an economic DOWNTURN, not anywhere close to a depression. But, not the way the Dems talk. Yeah, I have some ignorant fool libertard troll on my blog saying that since we lost the election we should just sit down and shut up. Just like the left did for eight years with former President Bush. What a long four years we are in for!

Projection. Classic liberal tactic of the gutless.

There’s one over there at Live QnA who’s hysterical over Rush’s comment. He beleives that if the POTUS fails, America fails. I pointed out that if that were the case, we’d have been toast long ago.

  10. It is absolutely essential that every Republican vote against the Porkfest so that when it fails completely, the failure can be placed squarely and cleanly on the Democrats’ doorstep. And that isn’t just my partisan politics talking–the Republicans must have NO participation in this debacle because in addition to being a horrible plan for America, it also has a disgusting fail-safe built-in so that even after it fails, the liberals can blame Republican IDEAS for its failure (even if only one Republican votes for it). Obama redefined “welfare payments for people who don’t pay taxes” as “tax cuts” during the campaign, so his plan is to blame “tax cuts” when the whole thing falls apart just so he can stay in the White House. So, the plan isn’t just destructive of the American economy, but also a vile effort to turn “tax cuts” into some loony discredited Republican answer to a sputtering economy. Tax cuts have worked EVERY TIME, but if Obama can convince 51% of America that the Pork Fest failed because of “tax cuts” we “couldn’t afford,” then any Republican effort to throw the bums out with an economic plan containing REAL tax cuts will be crippled.

The liberals know that what they are doing is wrong and doomed to failure, but they’re going to do it anyway because they know what’s best for us “little people.” And on top of it, they plan to vanquish their Republican enemies for good by blaming it on exactly the ideas and policies they despise. It’s brilliant really. And vile.

  11. I’m getting better at challenging hysterical libtards in public, much to Hubby’s chagrin.

I told him to fasten his seat belt, he’s in it with me for the long haul. ;-)

And to address Dan’s earlier post – we don’t need a marriage certificate or government recognition of our lifetime commitment. All we need is each other. Which is more than I can say for those two lesbians in Massachusetts.

  13. Watch – I will bet you a dollar to a donut that these Dhimmicrats will blame the GOP for not passing their bill and call them “obstructionist,” even though their party controls both houses of Congress.

How can they possibly think that we are obstructionists? Projection, I tell you. Projection.
