Kevin, do you even understand what happened to the economy? do you understand what the cause of the meltdown was?
What did bush and the gop “cook” exactly. I suggest you look at all the times bush called on congress to regulate fannie and freddie and research S190 from 2005, thats the bill the democrats wouldnt allow to come out of commitee, they stood united against it, and that includes obama.
as of August 2008 fannie had 388 billion in ALT-A and Subprime loans on their books, they had 40 billion cash on had to back those risks up, congress only required them to hold 9 billion cash on hand….bush was calling on congress to require to keep a high percentage of capital on hand.
google “Fannie’s Perilous Pursuit of Subprime Loans” and click on the washington post article, it will show you thru internal fannie mae documents how they intentionally created a demand for sumbprime and alt A loans and intentionally sold the riskier ones off to other investors around the globe.
this mess was engineered by fannie and freddie and they were protected by the democrat party, primarily Dodd and Franks. the top 3 recipients of campaign money from fannie and freddie were #1 Chris Dodd, #2 barrack Obama, #3 John kerry. This is since the early 90’s Obama was only in office for 4 years.

Yeah, but, Kevin, your whole premise is based on there being un-regulated capitalism. And, particularly, with the Community Reinvestment Act, we haven’t had that.

So, please tell me (with specifics please) how Reagan laid the groundwork for this mess, how W and the GOP Congress “cooked” that recipe and please tell me how the increase in domestic spending under W was an example of unfettered capitalism.

And while you’re at it, please point to the specific programs Bush and Republicans deregulated and how they contributed to the current crisis.

Reagan certainly laid the groundwork for the mess we are in today. He believed in totally un-regulated capitalism, which was only staved off by a democratic congress, followed by a democratic president staving off a republican controlled congress for most of his tenure. Bush and the republican congress cooked his recipe for disaster and it is a major reason of why we ended where we are today.

The subprime mess is tanking the world’s economy as many countries invested in our debt as a sure thing payoff. When we increase our deficit those bonds are going to be junk and many countries are expecting to get paid. Obama is going to take us to war with pretty much everyone out there. Wars are big economic stimulus packages that work. If we are not going to be able to pay off our debts anyway, might as well take us out.

I wonder why House GOPers aren’t holding hearings around the country to underscore what’s in the Democrat 2009 Spending Bill?

When the Dems were in the minority, they used to take 1 man committees all over the US and hold hearings, speak to media outside the beltway, solicit ready testimony from eager parties willing to go on record against whatever the GOP Congress was parading…

The House GOP needs to get a much more aggressive, sharper political staff. The SenGOP needs to say that, even with moderate GOP Sens voting for the bill, it’s still PORK and the PIG is squealing.

And Michael Steele needs to find a mic, some TV shows and get to work making this Democrat 2009 Spending Bill the albatross it ought to be around Obama. He’s got the big salary, the sweet office, the significant staff… now earn he needs to earn it, use it to the max.

Carter critical of Ronnie?

Well, Carter didn’t do much after his stunning defeat, as he says, “… at the hands of an aging b-talent actor with little concern for the poor.” “We were alone, broke and didn’t have any money coming in (what about his presidential pension, post-WH staff, SS detail, etc???) and had to worry about just having a roof over our heads”. And he said that just recently on Charlie Rose.

Carter and Rozie were hunkered down in Plains writing a book on their time in the WH during RR’s 1st term. In fact, JimmineyCricket talks candidly about how he and Rozie had to literally negotiate a truce between them in order to finish the book because she thought eveything she wrote was accurate, on-point, insightful and balanced. Everything he wrote was bitter, judgemental, hyper critical and poisoned… and in desperate need of her red pencil edits. At one point he told staff to tell her to “leave my part of the book alone or you can shoot her”.

I guess they went so far in the martial bliss funk punch-fest that he admits they slept for a long time in separate bedrooms, talked rarely, wouldn’t even look at the other in the eye, etc. during the book write. They used staff to ferry notes back and forth even though they sat 15 ft from each other at separate desks in the living room.

I guess that’s why we don’t recall Carter being critical of RR. He was still licking his wounds and playing marital emotional abuse in Plains. What an incredible, small petty man.

I’m already growing tired of this President. Often he portrayed himself as an “inclusive” voice, someone who reached across and sought out the best ideas. but it seems he is nothing like that. He decided a long time ago what should be done, and instead of arguing for it he uses ad hominems to attack anyone who disagrees. He has done nothing but insult the people who disagree. And the changes he made to the Senate bill aren’t the core problems, he just added more pork that serve Republican special interests. That’s not what I want, maybe that’s what a few Republican politicians want.

What is really amazing is so many of the politcies people I know are against actually originated in the 90s. Much of the deregulation of lending happened in the 90s, but I’m hard pressed to find a single liberal who even knows about the laws passed in the 90s.

I am ready to give up. With so many who don’t even want to learn, and get angry if you disagree. We’re going to make the same mistakes as FDR and Japan in the 90s. So now I’m wondering where should I be putting my money?
