I just got off the phone (as a constituent) with the Washington, DC office of freshman US Senator Kay Hagan (D-NC).
I asked a simple question:Â “Given the fact that Sen. Hagan voted to confirm Attorney General Holder added to his comments yesterday calling America a “nation of cowards”, and given the fact that if I dare speak about race in the workplace, I’d be fired under current employment laws….. Does Senator Hagan think I — an ordinary American — am a coward?”
The poor dude who answered the phone sputtered, then said he “figured she would not agree with Holder’s statement”. But then put me on hold and after about 3 minutes came back with: “Let me take your address so we can send you a response to Holder’s nomination since Sen. Hagan still has to answer a lot of letters about the subject.”
I don’t know, it is a pretty simple question:Â Senator Hagan — do you think I’m a coward?

Get over yourself man.
I hope Holder looks to his master too when he starts pointing fingers of cowardly behavior. He works for a man who is NOT our first black President but rather our first bi-racial President. He works for a man who has gone out of his way to disassociate himself from his white half. It could be a touch of fear that keeps races from intermixing socially and culturally here in the the US…but what does it make you to totally deny half of your heritage? The White (Grey) House needs to work on it’s own racial problems before it starts name calling. We have enough problems right now without Holder starting some bullshit for no reason. Obama needs to invest some of his bailout package into some strong muzzles for his staff members.
As a fellow constituent of Hagan, I feel it’s safe to say she doesn’t give a flying fuck either way- though sending her a check might get her attention.
I’ve contacted her office several times now to politely voice my opinion and I haven’t once heard back, either via an email, a letter or phone call. Dole’s office always responded with a call and Burr’s with a letter. I really miss Dole. Thank goodness we still have Burr.
oops, must be the F word that got me filtered
Holder says we are cowards because we don’t talk about race enough? I guess that means we must talk about race and nothing but race, because it seems to me we’ve been talking about race incessantly ever since Obama started running more than two years ago.
I think just the opposite. I think we are a nation of cowards because we are afraid to tell people — lest we be called racists — that they focus on race far too much as it is.
Glory glory, the people start to push back…..

The revolution may be starting and of all places on
CNBC. Will this financial contributor be fired by NBC for not going along with the leftists in this administration? Stay tuned.
#1 – Back at you Miss Thang.

#1 – you are welcome to leave anytime.
Now, back to the topic at hand all of you cowards out there!
So Mr Holder said monday thru friday we Americans are good at mixing with other races. It is saturday and sunday when on our own time, that we don’t mix with other races. So the Obama administration is going to force us to get together more often on our own time and intermingle with other races. Now this is a great goal and I can’t think why any intelligent person would push back against this lofty goal of the new President and his chief law enforcement officer. I for one can understand why this lefist administrations Attorney General made this his number one topic in his first public speech. Lordy lordy look at all the freaks.
Bruce, does anyone else grasp the irony of Holder’s characterization of Americans as a “nation of cowards” for their reluctance to discuss race – just as the story about the NY Post chimp cartoon is part of every blog and newscast? And that the “Justice Brothas” Sharpton and Jackson are starting up their poverty pimping ways again?
Hypocrisy, thy name is Levi – uh, I mean liberalism.
Same thing. 😉

Holder was right, in a way. There are cowards in this country who won’t talk about race in an honest way.
We can’t honestly talk about the real causes of African-American underachievement. We can’t talk about the devastating impact of fatherlessness on black families. We can’t honestly talk about black-on-black violence in the inner cities.
We’re only allowed to blame those things on racism. We’re not allowed to talk about other possible causes.
Mainly because of politically correct cowards like Eric Holder.
#2 – Dave, good point. As I like to say:
“B. Hussein Obama – half honkey, all donkey.”
(Shrieking libtards in 3…2…1…)
Hey, nobody calls me a coward and gets away with it.

Excellent point V.
So, lets talk about race!
Lets ask Eric Holder why is it that black Americans are the least educated, most impoverished, most likely to commit crime, when another non-white racial group, Asians, are the highest educated, least impoverished and least likely to commit crime?
Lets ask him why is it that real African Americans, that is people who have immigrated directly from Africa, who are also dark skinned, are doing so much better than black Americans?
The conversations liberals never want to have on race.

Hey I’m in the book and Holder has never called me once to go out for an adult beverage. Bloody coward.
Well, the governor’s a chicken.
YOU ALL SHOULD HAVE SHEILA JACKSON LEE REPRESENTING YOU!
MY FREQUENT EMAILS DON’T EVEN GET AN AUTO RESPONSE.
As far as Holder’s comments…notice that his speech is written….I assume he thought carefully about the words he used.
I can only imagine based on his “after thought” explanation that he would not use those words again.
Another Obama pick saying what he really thinks about Americans because they all assume WE all think like they do.
WRONG AGAIN!
#17 – Jeb, I too am represented by Queen Sheila and I’m ready to do with her what the French did with Marie Antoinette.

It serves the new administration well to have people talking about who might be a coward, rather than the culture of corruption they brought in.
personally i think holder chose his words unwisely. for the sake of clarity, however, we should get the record straight. he didn’t say we were a nation of cowards; he said, on the topic of race relations we are a nation of cowards. the distinction there is pretty stark. but nevertheless, i didn’t care for that line either. if for no other reason, that line serves to end the discourse instead of beginning it.
perhaps more important, though, is the glaring irony in this post. take this line: “given the fact that if I dare speak about race in the workplace, I’d be fired under current employment laws…”. while i believe this is a bit of hyperbole, the underlying point is true: we as a nation are so overly sensitized on the topic of race. in a way, GP, you are making the very point holder was making. his whole point is that we need to have open, clear, honest dialogue on the topic of race. his hope…or more accurately, his regret, is that, as a diverse country, we have failed to integrate (by choice) as much as many would like.
Ok I recall a very famous person, Rush Limbaugh having a gig on ESPN. It lasted I think 3 weeks. Because one night he commented that the media (liberal media) had a vested interest in Philly QB McNab being successful. And so far that season McNab was horible. Rush was trying to be provocative and start a conversation about how guilt ridden white media types and liberal sports guys on ESPN, kept down playing McNabs poor season. All because McNab is black. There was a kerfuffle, and Rush was out. This was not long ago. Now folks like Obama and Holder wonder why there isn’t a more honest discusion about race?? You must take one stance on race in America…..blacks were horribly abused (true) and still are (not true) and white America “owes” them anything and everything until black America says the scales are now balanced.
Yesterday in America, a cartoon humorist did a cartoon portraying the pork bill and the chimp shot dead. The race baiters in America say the chimp was meant to be Obama. Al Sharpton today had a street protest. Guys like Jesse Jackson and Sharpton have been on go for any excuse to launch a screaming protest for anything approacing an insult to Obama. Any wonder why Americans don’t want to discuss race. Any wonder why there is muted criticism of Obamas stumbling start?

gene–your points are well taken. and fwiw, i’m a big old liberal, and i think jesse jackson is awful and al sharpton is an annoying distraction.
Bob,
Paul Mirengoff at Powerline points out why your point is contradicted by Holder himself:
