BREAKING:Â Charges Against Stanford a Long Time Coming, Offshore Banking Experts Say – ABC News
Offshore banking experts say that the fraud charges this week against accused financial scammer R. Allen Stanford have been a long time coming.
“There’s no surprise at all,” said Washington lawyer and IRS consultant Jack Blum. “This man has been on law enforcement’s radar screen for the better part of 10 years.”

The federal investigation, however, did not stop Stanford from using corporate money to become a big man at last year’s Democratic convention in Denver.
A video posted on the firm’s web-site shows Stanford, now sought by U.S. Marshals, being hugged by Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi and praised by former President Bill Clinton for helping to finance a convention-related forum and party put on by the National Democratic Institute.
“I would like to thank the Stanford Financial Group for helping to underwrite this,” Clinton said to the crowd at the event.

There’s a potentially big story brewing on Capitol Hill…Â Apparently 104 members of Congress of both parties — 42 Republicans and 62 Democrats — secured earmarks for a lobbying firm linked to Rep. John Murtha (D-PA) in a single bill. The earmarks were inserted in a bill Murtha controlled as the defense appropriations subcommittee chairman.
The firm’s executives and clients are among Murtha’s biggest sources of campaign contributions.
Oh and who could forget Blago – The Illinois STD. You know, the gift that keeps on giving.  Burris still hasn’t gotten his penicillin yet…
This is getting out of control. Is this the HopeandChange that Chairman Obama promised?

It’s really funny that if it was “such a scandal” to Democrats that has been “brewing for a long time” why did it finally take a Democratic president and Democratic congress to finally move forward on this?
It will be fun to see what other Republican muck and mire turn up as the stones are overturned that kept this from being investigated years ago.
And why no mention of Cornyn’s relationship to this schmuck, especially since he’s the only individual to receive a personal gift from this fellow?

The crooked Democrat politicians are probably safe since Charlie Rangel and John Murtha prove Democrats don’t care how dirty their politicians are. Any Republicans in the scandal are probably toast though.

Good question, george. Usually when the Democrats introduce one of their scandals, it’s for a reason. For instance, when Fitzpatrick prematurely announced Blago’s wrongdoing, it appeared that if Blago had been allowed to continue, a bigger fish (e.g., The O himself) might have been ensnared. It WILL be interesting to watch this one unfold.
Or maybe this is why the new hopeandchange president has been flying around the country so frenetically: he has been gathering evidence in furtherance of this investigation? After all, it’s plain to see that The O just cannot tolerate dishonesty, wherever it rears its ugly head. It’s probably part of his sincere campaign against earmarks.

I think our pal george here gets off by doing a preemptive drive by comment, replete with insults but no substance or point. I’m sure he thinks himself to be witty and clever and quite superior but proves otherwise with every visit. If he has a point, he doesn’t come back to defend his arguement when it’s challenged, as seen in other postings.

I guess you only hear what you want to hear in this instance. Definitely not things like Tom Delay using Stanford’s private jet 16 times and John McCain being the third largest recipient in campaign donations from this guy nor Ohio Republican Robert Ney being the recipient of one of these all-expenses paid “business” trips to the Caribbean (yes, that Robert Ney currently serving 2 1/2 years in prison from his connections with Jack Abramoff). I mean it’s obvious that the Republicans were somehow snookered into Stanford’s schemes, right?
