“NOW CHARLES SCHUMER IS wishing he’d read the ‘stimulus’ bill after all.”

As Americans start learning about of the provisions in this behemoth legislation, expect other Democrats who voted for the “stimulus” to say they wish they’d read it too.

Wonder how their constituents will react as their representatives acknowledge having voted for a multi-hundred billion dollar spending bill that they hadn’t read.

Where were the cries on this side of the aisle when Congress motored through the Patriot Act? I think not. Also, good reporting from the National Review… Grassley is an (R) the last time I checked. Geeze.

National Review didn’t write that, Inlookout; they were quoting an article from Crain’s.

Michael Ramirez has a typically great cartoon on roughly the same point.

Um, Inlookout, we weren’t blogging when the Patriot Act was first enacted. And I don’t think it was over 1,000 pages. And I do think it enjoyed serious bipartisan support.

Advocates say that the mandate is so onerous that it will virtually stop banks from bringing foreign workers into the country.

Huh. And I thought liberals gave a shit about putting Americans first.

Where were the cries on this side of the aisle when Congress motored through the Patriot Act?

Oh they had plenty of time to read it. “I didn’t read it” was a CYA given to the gullible MorOn.org and Daily KOShole crowd. What was the excuse when they approved the renewal of it, even after Harry gReid proclaimed that he killed it?

No. The excuse that they didn’t read it is yet another in a long line of bullshit the liberals sold to ill informed dumbass supporters who lapped it up like a bukkake film.

Where were the cries on this side of the aisle when Congress motored through the Patriot Act?

More to the point: Where were the cries of outrage from Democrats when Obama abandoned his promises of “transparency” and “integrity” in having bills on the Internet for five days, before voting on them?

I’ve noticed a lot of this yesterday. Point out some appalling thing the Chairman 0 regime is doing, and some idiot leftist will immediately shriek… “But Bush…” Wake up and smell the coffee, dinguses. Bush isn’t president any more.

It looks likes Chairman 0 is about to open up a new front in the Neo-Marxist War on Prosperity. Obama’s EPA set to regulate carbon dioxide emissions. The economy is already on the ropes. Shutting down industries, utilities, and transportation to fight the completely cereal menace of ManBearPig should finish it off.

Dan, with all due respect, the notion that Schumer regrets having voted for the bill that contained the Sanders Amendment on HB1 visa restrictions for TARP-assisted banks and should have known about it, is bogus. Just like the earlier arguments that Congressmen ought to read the bill before voting on it –the standard is that they rely upon office staff, committee staff, nonpartisan staff, lobbyists, constituents, media, polling and other inputs to make those decisions.

I know among many cynics it’s great sport to stab at this bill and argue Congress should have slowed it down, allowed everyone to read it, spent a day or two in the “time-out” kiddies’ blue chair while contemplating the bill’s merits and demerits before voting and given greater time for more opposition to grow, foment and coalesce… but it’s still a bogus argument and it’s a fallacious example in using ChuckieSchumer.

The Sanders Amendment is intended to restrict but not prohibit the 200+ banks who rec’d TARP funds from using HB-1 visas for guest workers. The program’s cap and policies have been tinkered with by Congress repeatedly in the last 7-9 yrs –in Labor Dept bills, approp bills, policy bills, omnibus bills, etc.

This amendment was an employ Americans 1st provision and was originally proposed as a strict 1 yr prohibition on banks from getting any cut of the annual HB-1 quota. It required banks to use unemployed American workers for jobs before filling them with foreign workers operating under HB-1 visas. It was introduced on Feb 3rd. It drew lots of heat and attention, immediately.

Schumer staffers were involved in getting the 1 yr prohibition changed to a softer 2 yr restriction with strings (strings that generally will exclude banks from the restrictions). Schumer is logged in as being on the Senate floor when the voice vote occured. His personal office staff & his Committee senior staff were involved in getting the original Sanders Amendment modified. Schumer knew what was in the amendment as adopted and he knew the softer, watered down version was there when he voted for the larger bill.

Jeannie Lopez, over at Natl Review Online, came up with the misleading summary of “Schumer’s Second Thoughts (Or: This Is Why Reading Legislation Before Voting Is a Good Idea)”.

It might be fun to engage in the sport of “Congressman X now regrets” not having read the bill… but the truth in this instance lies elsewhere. In fact, most observers doubt that Schumer will be able to revisit this issue before the sweeping immigration reform package is readied in October.

V, we ARE talking about the party that believes that slavery 200+ years ago excuses hooliganism now; that the Crusades excuses terrorism; that having sent a helicoper and some medical supplies to Iraq when they were in a war with one of our enemies in the mid-80s makes the guy who was elected President in the year 2000 responsible for Sadam Hussein’s behavior in the ’90s; and that the ONLY reason Bill Clinton was impeached was that Richard Nixon was impeached.

If you’re waiting for responsibility or logic from Democrats, you’re in for a looong wait.

Wow, I clicked through all those links, and I didn’t find a single quote of Charles Schumer saying ‘I wish I read the stimulus bill.’ He said something about wanting to undo an amendment tin o the bill, to which some conservative poster added ‘this is why you should read bills,’ which then goes skipping across the right-wing blogosphere as ‘OMG CHUCK SCHUMER SAYS HE WISHES HE READ THE BILL LOL!!1!’ That way, it makes it seem like even a Democrat is agreeing with John Beohner and all the Republican play-actors.

Ah, Republican information dissemination. If we were children, it would be like an amusing game of telephone. Since we’re adults, it’s more like a terrifying propaganda apparatus.

#10 – Why don’t you look up the YouTube video where Chucky states that the American people “don’t care about pork” in the omnibust package.

Then come back here and tell us we’re dishing out information.

    What a tool.

13 – No I mean it. There’s actually a new video of Sarah Palin making an ass out of herself, one that I discovered since my last post. Greta van Susteren was interviewing Bristol when Sarah unexpectedly barged in and…. well, did her idiot thing. It’s like washing a plane crash into a train wreck. Future of the GOP, though!

Levi, she’s not the future of the GOP. The only ones who think that are the ones on the sidelines, grumbling into their cooling bowl of oatmeal and angry that life has left them marginalized, impotent, bitter and cynical. But they still like a good set of gams.

Palin terrifies people like Levi for three reasons:

    1) They have no idea what people with moral values and families actually look like

    2) They cannot fathom the idea of a woman who is willing to turn in male members of her own party for corruption.

    3) She doesn’t worship them for their plantation kindness of telling her she can kill her babies if they are inconvenient.

NDXXX, I’m not sure Gov Palin terrorizes anyone, honest. The Left loves to make fun of her –just like the Right likes to make fun of BarneyFrank– both are fodder for endless jokes, easy parody and the perfect foil for what’s wrong in their repsective camps. She’s sort of a modern-day Jerry Ford falling down the jetway.

“Terrorizes” people like Levi or the Left isn’t it at all and the defenders of all-things-Sarah make a huge mistake when they think her demerits outweigh her refreshing, charming, homey-styled insights or her apparent conservative bonafides… eg, likes guns, cuts taxes, married to a snowmobiler fellow hunter, looks good in a $10k designer suit, pro-military, unapologetic patriot, unrepentant beauty queen, etc.

To the Left she’s an excellent template to poke fun at conservatives, GOPers, Moms-in-politics, people with kids who serve in the military, small town America or those who hold strong fundamental Christian beliefs. Obama said it when he talked about people in western PA clinging to their guns… these people think those people are a joke.

You have to be a real threat to terrorize the Left.
