Mr. Santelli Takes on Washington
Back in LA from San Francisco this week, I finally had time to watch the rest of Mr. Smith Goes to Washington. Maybe it’s because I had just read Jim Hoft’s post on how Obama groupie Chris Matthews followed the example of White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs in attacking Rick Santelli, the latest individual to gain popular acclaim for taking on the president’s policies, that I saw the similarity between the two situations.
In the celebrated Frank Capra cinema classic, as soon as Senator Smith (James Stewart) make clear he intends to oppose a project the Taylor Machine (from his unnamed home state) has had slipped into a spending bill, Jim Taylor (Edward Arnold) cranks up his media machine to destroy the honest critic.
It seems that something similar happens every time someone rises to prominence by raising honest questions about Barack Obama’s policies. First, Democratic hacks and the MSM went after Joe the Plumber when his questions of then-Democratic candidate led the future president to acknowledge his redistributionist tendencies, wanting to “spread the wealth.”
Now, after colorfully raising questions about the president’s foreclosure plan, Santelli began to feel the wrath of the Obama/MSNBC machine.
First, the White House Press Secretary tells him he should read the president’s foreclosure plan before criticizing it, leading Glenn to crack, “Which is rich, since that’s more than anyone in Congress did before voting last week . . “
Noting the Obama Machine going after yet another critic, Dan Riehl offers:
. . . we’re seeing a WH that looks like it’s being run more like a Chicago Ward, than the house that most presidents lived in. This is about attacking everyone and everything that opposes you. In the end, it demeans the office and raises serious concerns as to whether these people can be trusted with the power they now have.
Kind of sounds like James Stewart’s experience when his Mr. Smith went to Washington.
UPDATE: Well, this is interesting. Just learned that Mr. Santelli’s favorite movie is Mr. Smith Goes to Washington (at 4:42 below).

Speaking of which, I’m predicting that Obama will be the next liberal “hero” nobody remembers like Cindy Sheehan, Valerie Wilson, that asshole “Iraq Veteran” who washed out of Basic, that clown in Iraq who claimed soldiers routinely ran over dogs with APCs etc.
Like those folks, Chairman Obama is much vaunted and “Dowdified” as liberal icons. Problem is that their 15 minutes came and went relatively quickly. I’m wondering if by the end of his first 100 days, people will be saying “Obama who???”.

REZCO MORTGAGE BAILOUT PLAN:
You are being to hard on Obama with this homeowner bailout thing. He simply wants all homeowners to have their homes subsidized…just as he did with Tony Rezco. Obama knows from personal experience just how helpful a handout/handup is when buying a home. Subsidizing the cost, special rates for loans. He really is just a good guy trying to get everyone this deal.

Also in that White House Press conference, Obama’s Press Secretary ‘wonders what kind of a house Santelli lives in’. One of the rules for radicals that Alinsky (Obama’s mentor) is to personalize every issue- rather than discussing Santelli’s argument, they’ll make it personal and spark class warfare- it worked during the election. Also, I’d bet money that someone has done some background searches on Santelli too, and that conversations have started between Obama and CNBC about marginalizing this guy.

Oh c’mon, Teacher. The White House is only wondering if Santelli needs any help paying his mortgage.
Perhaps it will help them to determine his needs after they have the IRS examine his tax returns, going back three years; knowing their good intentions, Santelli should be only too happy to take a little time off work and bring in all documentation relating to his income and deductions.
And undoubtedly they’ll be helped by the press, after they’ve gone through his trash and interviewed his friends and neighbors, as well as anyone with whom he has ever worked. For details, watch The New York Times.
Is he married? Does he have children? If so, it will be helpful to examine every facet of the lives of the wife and kids.
Or is he, maybe, gay? Or closet gay. Or does he have gay friends or relatives and if so, how does he treat them? This will tell them much about how deserving he is. If he’s a conservative gay (a traitor to his kind), can he honestly care about America? I think not.
When anyone is so unpatriotic as to question anything about The O, it’s best to squelch this sort of thing early. Look at the toll it took on the Bush regime, that ignoring all the crap that was thrown at him. We can’t have The O’s poll numbers falling, can we?

It’s fortunate that such tactics discredit the person who uses them… especially when they’re over-used. It’s unfortunate that it takes time; people don’t see right away, and fundamentally dishonest arguers can get away with a few things, for a long time. We’ve known a few on this blog.

I live in a house that’s fully-paid for. So now I have to “eat” the equity-losses due to my neighbors’ greed AND stupidity…..and on top of that I now have to help pay to THEM out of financial trouble??
Oh, and our property-taxes are still based on the top-of-market valuations, Grrr…. I’m with Howard Beale, “I’m as mad as Hell, and I’m not going to take this anymore….”
