CPAC Regrets

As many of you know, the Conservative Political Action Conference, better know by its acronym, CPAC, begins this Thursday in our nation’s capital.  I had very much hoped to attend, but with my (adopted) home-state legislature hiking my taxes, I’m not sure I can afford it.

It would have been nice to attend as an openly gay blogger and continue the “experiment” I conducted last September at the Republican National Convention, to see how leading conservatives as well as rank-and-file Republicans, react to a gay man harboring right-of-center political views in their midst.  And it would be nice to hobnob with my fellow conservative bloggers whom I primarily know as pixels on the screen.

For the record, I want to point out that the organizers of the conference had invited me (along with other bloggers) to attend the conference with media credentials giving me access to all events.  Once again, a conservative organization sees gay bloggers as part of their coalition.

And it’s not just gay bloggers.  Four years ago, the organizers allowed Log Cabin to cosponsor the confab.  Evidence continues to accumulate that mainstream conservatives are reaching out to their gay confrères.

  2. Dittos from me, too, Dan. I wish I could have gone. But my work-travel schedule is from hell (as you’d know if you follow me on Twitter.com/gaypatriot) *plug, plug*

But I echo what Dan says in that GayPatriot is a go-to blog for the major conservative groups now and that was one of the main goals when we started 4.5 years ago.

That and not having Andrew Sullivan ever referred to as a “gay conservative”. We are still working on that. And so is Andy.

  3. It would be nice if CPAC and similiar organizations held their conferences in places other than our nation’s capital.

Leftie gays like to refer to him as a “conservative” because it makes them feel intellectually diverse. It’s not the reality that counts with them, you know, it’s the illusion. Also, ol’ Andy does seem to feel that HIV+ bareback-orgy enthusiasts should be married, which among gay lefties is comparably a conservative position. Finally, talking about Andie makes them feel sexually diverse and enlightened since Andie is practically a woman, in certain respects.

  5. It’s no so bad that CPAC is in DC, but that it’s in DC in the middle of winter.

Las Vegas always gets my vote!
