Obama’s “Perpetual PR Mode”

March 21, 2009 by GayPatriotWest

Victor Davis Hanson weighs in on the President:

Sorry, I don’t want my President joshing about the Special Olympics on Leno. I don’t want him on Leno at all in his perpetual PR mode. I don’t want him drawing  out his picks for the final four on TV. I don’t want him paid for rewriting/revising/ condensing/whatever his earlier book while he’s supposed to be President, or ribbing Gordon Brown about his tennis game in patronizing fashion, or giving the British a pack of un-viewable DVDs after they, in exchange, offered a tasteful gift of historic importance.

Hanson offers more, much more in his post, all of which merits your attention. But, for now, I wanted to draw you attention to his criticism of President Obama for it offers one of the best short summaries of his failings.

I have a new word for the Obama administration foreign policy: “Baa–ram–du diplomacy.”

    Get the meme started, people!

I agree there’s something inappropriate in a president appearing on a late night show. Using a built-in audience to bolster flagging support but doing so in a joshing, aw-shucks, Gee-I’m-only-human manner taints the office with an aspect of popular culture that both de-politicizes a very political and some consider a reverent charge as well as politicizes what should remain the purview of popular culture.

And yet, the Democrats have a far better bead on the pulse of society than do Republicans. We go on and on about principles, but we have such difficulty translating them into a language that is understood by such audiences who, thanks largely to Democrats, are increasingly politically aware and active. It’s tough to criticize a successful strategy, even if it does involve a hollow, cynical, shallow appeal whose strategy likely involved a phone call from the White House and an openly liberal host who gladly made every accommodation.

How can Republicans and Republican ideas become popular?

VDH used to be one to find a silver lining. He was an optimist, all that changed Jan 21st.
Every time I read him now I cringe, because he is voicing my fears and my anger at our ruling class.

Instead of coming out and telling us he won’t accept a resignation from Geithner, maybe we can finally hear about a real program to deal with the credit issue??
And please, go no where without your telepromter, stay away from late night TV, how about just staying put in the oval office and actually getting some work done? Like maybe not just relying on Geithner but getting some more key people into position at Treasury???

    Remeber Don Imus’ Comment?

Obama said: “He fed into some of the worst stereotypes that my two young daughters are having to deal with today in America. The notions that as young African-American women — who I hope will be athletes — that that somehow makes them less beautiful or less important. It was a degrading comment. It’s one that I’m not interested in supporting.”

Therefore, laughter and the lack of reaction from Obama’s remarks suggest Americans have a set a rules for race, class and gender: If you touch them you will pay.

And another set of rules for individuals that have a mental or physical disability: If you touch them, it’s ok if you apologize. Oh, and by the way, it’s okay to laugh at the jokes that come at the expense of the latter.

    It is just cruel.

Another great post from VDH. He covered a lot of what I’ve been thinking lately.

Yes–why not a comparison with Don Imus? Or that Kramer guy? or that senator from Virginia? They all got crucified for similar comments.

Senator George Allen was exiled to a French African penal colony for uttering one word. One silly little word. He’s not be seen or heard from since.

Perhaps a blonde bimbo with big tits and no drawers making a fool of herself on TV?

Rather, some spokesperson needs to make a regular appearance on TV and/or the web, demonstrate the failings of liberalism point by point and then show rational, conservative options and how they’re better.

Maybe having Dear Teleprompter on all the chat shows and all the magazine covers is a distraction, so the Rahm Emmanuel is free to wield the actual power.
