Was this Meant to be a Jab at the Gipper?
In his meeting with the Queen, the President of the United States said, in response to a her question about jet lag:Â “I had breakfast with the Prime Minister, I had meetings with the Chinese, the Russians, [Tory leader] David Cameron. And I’m proud to say I did not nod off in one of the meetings.“
Just wonderin’.

NO CLASS…….The offical gift to foreign heads of state overseas is an IPod.
Comment by PatriotMom — April 2, 2009 @ 5:23 am - April 2, 2009
So far, Obama’s gifts to heads of state boil down to a couple of DVDs and a glorified mixed tape.
He must ignore the advice of the White House Protocol Officer the way he ignores General Petraeus, history, and his own legal counsel.
I hear he gave Sarkozy a McDonalds gift card and Merkel got an official Air Force One sick bag.

If some low-life insulted my good friend like that, I’d b!tch slap him six ways to next Tuesday.
But the Queen, bless her, is just too polite to tell the socialist-in-chief to go “f” himself.

The Obama team is floating the word that the Queen requested the iPod. It sounds right to me. I am sure she and Prince Philip sat at the kitchen table and made a list of what they would ask the visiting President to bring as a calling present.
The Queen, you know, is held prisoner in her rooms without any real way to get an iPod on her own. She does not have an allowance or any money in her pockets. I imagine that she really wanted a Blackberry, but knew asking for one would be cheeky.
Thank heavens Obama grasped her hand with both of his. That old taboo was so yesterday.

The Queen’s ipod contains speeches by Himself.

Is Baracula a narcissist or what? Speeches of himself on the iPod?
Similarly, I recall reading in history class that higher echelon members of Germany’s National Socialist Party received gifts of both speech text copies and spoken-word records from their leader – Adolf Hitler.

Wow. I sleep every night and don’t do it as a tribute to Reagan. So…. Yeah, no.
Do you see Reagan’s image burned into your breakfast toast, too?
Comment by Erik — April 2, 2009 @ 1:37 pm - April 2, 2009
Do you all take your cues from Sean Hannity’s comedy hour on Fox “News”?
First of all, Dan, the President’s remarks about staying awake during his meetings were in a brief discussion of jet lag.
Secondly, the iPod wasn’t the major gift presented to the Queen. She is a big fan of Rodgers and Hammerstein musicals, especially “Oklahoma”, and the President and Mrs. Obama gave Her Majesty a book of music autographed by Richard Rodgers. The iPod was loaded with music from Broadway and film musicals. All in all, appropriate gifts.
Conservatives have really become obsessed with petty and trivial things.

No, Erik – but I do see an image of Obama every morning in the toilet after I finish using it. Then I flush it.

#10 – Ah, fresh meat. Here we go:
“Do you all take your cues from Sean Hannity’s comedy hour on Fox “Newsâ€?”
You must be confusing Hannity with Stephen Colbert or Jon Stewart – who really DO have comedy shows that most liberals like to consider “news.” However, I don’t see how you could be that stupid, since Hannity’s ratings are higher than either Colbert’s or Stewart’s – combined.
Next up:
“First of all, Dan, the President’s remarks about staying awake during his meetings were in a brief discussion of jet lag.”
Really? Were you there? Can you provide proof, please?
And then there’s this little nugget of news:
“Secondly, the iPod wasn’t the major gift presented to the Queen. She is a big fan of Rodgers and Hammerstein musicals, especially “Oklahomaâ€, and the President and Mrs. Obama gave Her Majesty a book of music autographed by Richard Rodgers. The iPod was loaded with music from Broadway and film musicals. All in all, appropriate gifts.”
First off, where did you get your information? I for one have never HEARD about the “Broadway music” fascination by the queen. However, I do have it on good authority from the Propaganda Ministry (i.e. ABC, NBC, CBS et al) that the iPod was loaded with The Snob’s own speeches from 2004 to the present.
And of course, the MSM would never “lie” to us, would they? (Think carefully about your answer, Lee – because if you say “yes,” then you’ve just admitted that they can’t be trusted, which is something we conservatives have been saying for years.)
Again, please provide proof of your assertions, otherwise I call BS (Barbra Streisand) on it.
“Conservatives have really become obsessed with petty and trivial things.”
Ironic coming from a person who identifies with a party and/or philosophy that specializes in petty and trivial things, like Bristol Palin’s pregnancy and Joe the Plumber’s taxes.
Match, set, game. You lose. We have nice parting gifts for you backstage.
Regards,
Peter H.

White House Protocol Officer
You do know that this is another one of Obamas “empty and no appointee in sight” offices, right?
Comment by Phelps — April 2, 2009 @ 6:10 pm - April 2, 2009
Peter, I’m no fan of Obama, but you’re a bit off-base here. First off, Dan’s post itself says “…in response to a her question about jet lag,”. And I heard on the news this morning that, in addition to the iPod, Betty was also given a bound and autographed collection of Rogers and Hammerstein music. I don’t think it’s much of a stretch to imagine that she’s a fan of the duo…they were (and are) awfully popular, you know.
I think Dan was being facetious with this post. But I will agree that there’s something really self-centered about loading a bunch of your own speeches on a gift iPod. Still you really can’t blame him…making speeches is the one thing he does well.

I’ve been to Buckingham Palace and have seen many examples of gifts that have been given to Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip. They were all items that reflect the craftsmanship or artistry of the areas from which they originated. Even the cowboy boots by Houston’s RJ Carrol.
My iPod says “Made in China”.
Here’s a brief article on royal gifts for some examples:

Kevin, then why do you spend so much time here.
And, um, this isn’t an attack if you can read. Do you know what a question mark is. I hacked this out in a matter of seconds, mostly to spur discussion.
I guess it serves as a Rohrschach test of our readership, seeing how ready some are to attack.
OH, and, glad you’re amused. Now, you know how I feel whenever Barney Frank opens his mouth.

17: Gimmee a break…as other people reported here, the nodding off comment was connected to a question/response about jet lag. You jumped at it because 1) St. Ronny was actually caught in the act nodding off while attending at least one state event and 2) you’re all so clearly obsessed with Democrats attacking Republicans / seeing the President fail you take umbrage at any comment (clearly enough so to make as a posted topic). I particularly enjoyed how one poster just knows that Queen Elizabeth II isn’t really a fan of musicals. Such a non-event.
Why do I read this site? cause it gives me such a laugh. And at least I write responses here an overwhelming majority of the time without making personal attacks, unlike a couple of your supporters who do so, yet don’t appear to be subject to the so-called standards of good political discourse.

Is anyone other than I amused that the great bob, sent from the left to educate us unwashed self loathing conservatives, has been so dissambled that he’s now left to drive by attempts at snark and holding Hitler up as an example the administration should follow?
To address the original post, Dan I don’t think he was bashing our 40th president. That would require him to care about someone besides himself. The TOTUS may have made him say it, because TOTUS may be jealous that Reagan wrote his own material.

I’ve got to say I think it was a reference to Reagan, but I think it was meant in a light-hearted fashion — not as an insult or mean-spirited jab. Is it something Reagan or W would have said? Probably not, but I don’t think that leads to the conclusion it was meant to be mean. JMO.
