You can marry one (1) person subject to the state’s requirements, which can include gender, age or (in MA) being able to marry that person in your home state.

The same as everyone else.

As for my preference, I don’t think marraige should be a state issue, civil unions for everyone is the way to go.

As I posted above, I’m glad to see the privilege of recognized partnerships extended to same sex couples, through the will of the people, not the tyrany of the minority. Personally I’d prefer the construction of ‘Fred’, but I’m willing to accept the societal change.

Resident Conservative here. I think the Vermont approach is precisely the way same-sex marriage MUST happen.

Under Federalism and a representative government, this has to be the way these issues move forward.

NOT by judicial fiat and violating laws of the nation you don’t agree with.

So yes, I’m happy for the Vermont decision today.

torrentprime, snark aside, that touches on what I’m interested in hearing about from the resident conservatives (I know what “social conservatives” will say, so I’m much more interested in the opinion of the anti-”judicial activism” contingent). I agree, it is a wonderful thing. While I don’t have the same objections to the judiciary recognizing a right to equal treatment under the law, I do agree with the idea that a legislative process is the ideal way for states to allow or recognize same-sex marriage. This really is the way it “ought to be done” and I’m happy to see it.
