While doing my cardio yesterday afternoon, it seemed that every time I looked up at CNN on the TV monitor, a host was talking about the President’s first One Hundred Days in office or the network was promoting another program to mark the event. First, it was Don Lemon, then Wolf Blitzer, even with ads for some report card. Given that it’s CNN, don’t expect the grading to be too tough.
But, just want to note a couple of things. Don Lemon seemed remarkably even-handed, a nice balance to Armstrong Cooper and Rick Sanchez. Why not have Lemon take Cooper’s weekday spot? CNN’s political reporter Ed Henry as well as a left-wing columnist and former Bush aide joined him. His questions were fair and he didn’t bait the Republican, letting him speak uninterrupted, a courtesy he also extended to the columnist.
He asked each to grade the President on his first one hundred days, but expressly refused to extend that courtesy to Henry. It seemed that reporter was chomping at the bit to offer the President favorable marks, but Lemon had a better understanding of journalism than did his colleague.
All that said, watching CNN hype Obama’s first one hundred days, I was wondering if they similarly hyped the same time frame for his predecessor eight years ago.
Let’s cut CNN a break! In 2000, they were the Clintoon News Network and so they were naturally introspective of the Bush child.
The Bush child brought war, famine, pestilence, plague, pirates, loathing from the allies, greed, corruption, acne, hang nails, Cheney, torture, global warming, orphan polar bear cubs, the loss of a planet, FOX, computer viruses, home schooling, e. coli, Sarah Palin, flooding, hurricanes, homelessness, and armed resistance against poor Mexican laborers doing jobs no self respecting welfare recipient would consider.
CNN is just chronicling the procession and ascension of the Messiah. They did yeoman service is chronicling the descent during the Bush child years. It is merely a fair and balanced leveling of the record.
Forget this 100 days hype.
The first 100 weeks is what will matter.
“…while doing cardio, my eyes went to CNN on the monitor…”, or always similar words to that effect. WTF!! If you don’t like CNN, change the channel, go to another gym, complain loudly to the manager. Just don’t be captive to their crap. Jeez louise, you have a mouth, use it.
I think the rationalization would be “because this a Historic Presidency – the first African-American president!” But in the same breath, they would deny giving Chairman Bam-Bam any sort of special treatment on account of his skin color.
All I can say is: This is it? This is the “hope” we were promised? Is that all there is?
I think I figured out why the DNC MSM is so sweet on The Snob – it’s because they’re both made the same way.
Black and white, and red all over.
