April Deadliest Month For US In Iraq Since….

May 2, 2009 by GayPatriot

Let’s see, April turns out to be the deadliest month for US troops since November 2008.

The U.S. death toll for April rose to 18, the military said Friday, making it the deadliest in seven months for American forces in Iraq. The sharp increase from the previous month came as a series of bombings also pushed Iraqi deaths to their highest level this year.

In the latest violence, a suicide bomber blew himself up at a restaurant on the reservoir of Iraq’s largest dam near the northern city of Mosul. At least five people were killed and 10 wounded, according to U.S. and Iraqi officials.

The spike in attacks has raised concerns that insurgents are stepping up their efforts to re-ignite sectarian bloodshed as well as questions about the readiness of the Iraqis to take over responsibility for their own security as U.S. troops begin to withdraw.

Something different has happened in the past seven months.  I can’t quite put my finger on it….. I know it will come to me.  *tapping foot*  What…is…it….that…happened…in November 2008?

Hmmm, maybe my intelligent readers will be able to help me remember what may have changed in the past seven months to make things more dangerous in Iraq?

It’s sad that you use the death of fighting soldiers for your myopic, narrow-minded, empty-headed political agenda. You are the worst kind of American.

It’s convenient how you forgot to include this gem from that article:

“We have had some increase in the number of these high-profile attacks, but nowhere near what we were seeing a year or a year and half ago,” [U.S. military spokesman Maj. Gen. David Perkins] said Friday in a briefing for reporters.

Gosh….whose watch did THAT happen under, hmmm?

Hold on. You can’t just start laying the deaths of American soldiers at the feet of President Obama after 6 years of avoiding assigning that sort of blame to George Bush. Also, it doesn’t look like you’re even trying to pretend to care about the actual troops getting killed so much as you’re giddy about the possibility of being able to blame Obama for their deaths.

Also, try this whine on for a size: WHY ARE YOU ONLY FOCUSING ON THE BAD NEWS OUT OF IRAQ?!?

My opinion of this article would be that the insurgents know that we will now be soft on them if we capture them. So they figure “what the hell?” Things are going downhill fast.

Ha, but like usual with the Libs, its deflection and pointing backwards. All that matters today is that Obama is Commander of the US Military. This is his watch. If I take over a struggling company today, my focus would be on taking care of it TODAY. NOT repeatedly saying “The last owner was a bad manager so…..” I’m going to get my ass to work and fix things.

Please pray for the troops. Our men and women under arms have a weak Commander in Chief. I think our enemies are aware of that. They are probably emboldened by that. Obamateleprompter is all talk. He’s not been battletested. The Obama defense department is now allowing the filming of the returning dead, depending on the permission of the family members. I’ve not seen any of the recent returning dead. I hope now that this may not be so much to the administrations liking and benefit, that they rethink that decision.

You are so right, bruce! Only liberals are allowed to use the deaths of fighting soldiers for a “myopic, narrow-minded, empty-headed political agenda,” as perfectly illustrated by your comment number 2 (posted literally 120 seconds after the quote above):

“‘We have had some increase in the number of these high-profile attacks, but nowhere near what we were seeing a year or a year and half ago,’ [U.S. military spokesman Maj. Gen. David Perkins] said Friday in a briefing for reporters.

Once again, a liberal proves in under 3 minutes that when it comes to their “standards,” the “double” is always silent.

See, the preident of Iraq needs to start a nuclear weapon program, or maybe fire a missle into the Indian Ocean. Or just denounce America. Then he can get top level talks, aid, and concessions from the administration.

Hey, if it works for N. Korea, Iran, Cuba…

That’s right, GP. And then we get to enjoy the amusement of watching them limp around, spastically accusing everyone else of hypocrisy, and all we can do is wonder why a 20-pound steel apparatus with razor-sharp jaws digging into their upper thighs hasn’t slowed them down in the least.

“My intellect and deception rivals that of King Barack himself!”

Rivals? You’re too modest. I understand you work without a teleprompter. Obama can’t get through the voice-activated menus on a call to Sprint customer service without detailed cue cards walking him through it.

This is a disgusting post. American casualties are not props in a partisan spin battle. It was just as wrong when the Angry Left took barely disguised glee when the US hit one “grim milestone” or another under President Bush. I’d like to come here more often and be a part of this alternative to the gay left blogosphere, but it is hard to do that while maintaining a sense of integrity.

In addition to being disgusting, the post is also misleading. Soldier deaths in Iraq are way, way down and have stayed down since mid-2008, but that doesn’t mean that there is a straight-line trend every single month. There were 17 deaths in November 2008; that dropped to 14 and 16 US deaths in Dec. and Jan. respectively. Back to 17 US (and 1 UK) deaths in Feb. Then we dropped to a record low of 9 in March. April had an increase to 19. All of these numbers include non-hostile deaths, such as car accidents. In sum, the numbers since Election Day show only that the death rate remains much lower than pre-surge, about .5-.6/day, including non-hostile deaths. It took me 5 minutes to find this data. Too bad that you post without doing the least bit of background research.

Uh, Bill….. Have noticed that the MSM has changed its rules about loud shouting the death count since the Obamessiah came to walk among us?

How is it that you find it disgusting to make that observation? Or is “irony” something you do after you washy and dryey your culottes?

  26. Gene on Pennsylvania says

Exactly, #24 the recent surge of deaths in Iraq can be laid at the feet of Obamateleprompter because he has changed the defense equation. He has re energized the terrorists with his actions viewed as weakening our resolve and anti terror efforts. Pray to God the casualties don’t keep rising, because of our weak Commander in Chief.

It was sad at Obamas last press party when he said he didn’t expect to have so much to do when he got elected. As if we don’t know about all the parites during the week he is having. And all the non sensical traveling he does. If the job is too much he can hand it over to jumpin Joe Biden, ole Joe will carry on. hehe

Dispite the vitriol, the hatred and meanness displayed towards the former administration, I’m determined not to slump to their level in describing the blunders of Obamas rookie 100 days.

  30. Bill says

    May 3, 2009 at 10:37 pm - May 3, 2009

26, did you even read my comment? The death rate went DOWN from February to March. It went up from March to April. It goes up and down slightly in any given one-month period, but it generally has stayed in the same range since mid-2008. So there is no evidence of any new trend in casualties since Election Day, nor is there any link to any supposed new defense equation that can be divined from casualty figures.

Also, what is the point of calling Obama names? I never understood why people on the Left felt the need to mock Bush’s name or call him things like “Chimpy”. It doesn’t persuade anyone of anything and only makes one come off as juvenile. On the other hand, that may be just the right approach for this blog.

I’m with you on this being a disgusting post, but have to disagree with your characterization of the ‘Angry Left.’ We really do oppose this war. We really do believe that Americans are dying needlessly over there, and we really do believe that the Bush administration’s stupidity has increased our casualties dramatically.

The left has done nothing as disingenuous as GayPatriot’s reversal, which saw him minimizing the severity of casualties under Bush to being practically orgasmic about being able to blame Obama for them now.
