Left-wing bloggers are still at it, still demonizing Carrie Prejean. What do they feel compelled to attack this woman, sometimes in the most vicious terms? They and their ilk seem to be constantly on the warpath. They just seem to “need” to pick some politically incorrect individual to vilify.
(Yes, I realize that some conservatives are not immune from this “need.” A good number on the right are always ready to ridicule, but this phenomenon is not nearly as widespread on our side of the aisle, not even close.)
It didn’t begin with George W. Bush. They were at it long before that good man had even considered following in his father’s footsteps and seeking a career in politics. When I was at the Reagan Ranch and Library last week revisiting that great man’s record, I recalled how so many left-wing pundits and my liberal collegiate peers reviled the man. (I saw an ad in the Village Voice for the Regan Countdown Calendar.) Had there been a “netroots” then, they would have gone after him with the same zeal they pursued his Vice President’s son.
And let’s not forget the LBJ/Moyers/Mainstream Media smear of Barry Goldwater.
Were it not for the left-wing smears of Carrie Prejean, I would pay little heed to her. Indeed, most of my conservative and libertarian blogging smears would similarly have ignored her. Nearly ever post related to her (on the conservatives blogs I read) addresses not what she said, but how the left has treated her.
So, let me repeat my advice to those on the left eager to insult Carrie Prejean: ignore her. And then, take the time and energy you might otherwise have used to vilify that beauty queen to wonder why it is you so “need” to hate.
Well said. I agree with what you are saying. You are correct about the earlier vilification that has always been there from the left.
What I remember of my time in America though, is that at least in the first term and during the election for the second term the press was more kindly. However, after about the first year into the second term they started on Ronald Reagan because of his age.
I saw a similar thing happen over here with John Howard. He was not dottery yet the press went after him and constantly through up alleged conversations about a promise to Peter Costello. A lot of people bought the lie about the handover and they still talk about the fact that he would not hand over the reins to Peter Costello. Now we are stuck with the incompetent Kevin Rudd (known as Kevin Krudd for a reason)
Keep up the excellent standard in this blog. Your comments above are one reason that I like to come and read what you have to say.
Dan, it won’t happen. These leftist moonbats are so invested in demonizing their opponents that they don’t realize that they are giving them free press.
All of them act like kids frozen in time at their fourth birthday parties. It’s all about “me, me, me” and how many presents you can get and how much cake you can guzzle before it all ends.

Yep, there you have it. One person on the right, who endorsed bigotry, gets made fun of. This clearly puts the hatred on the right, shown daily, to shame. The GOP, on the floor of the House of Representatives, compared homosexuality to pedophilia and called the circumstances of Matthew Shephard’s death a hoax. But the left shows a need to hate. Right.
You’ve compared jokes about big boobs and low intelligence to the daily dehumanization and fight to keep gays unequal and hated, by thousands on the right, and their elected representatives. Got a lot of fingers on that scale, GPW.
How do you get from implant jokes to hate? What on earth does a countdown calendar have to do with hate? Do the Obama presidency countdown widgets I’ve seen on RedState commenters mean that the right has succumbed to hate? By your logic…
um, torrent, please show me where she endorsed bigotry and if she did, then so did the president? Why aren’t you then making fun of his ears?
Go take a listen to how these people treated her. Daily dehumanization? Fight to keep gay people unequal and hated? Give me a break, torrent.
Why do you always turn everything into an attack on conservatives? Can’t you even acknowledge the pervasiveness of the hate on your side of the aisle. As I said in the post, it’s not just the way you guys treat Prejean. And please note that I did say conservatives are not immune to such attitudes.
Do hope you’ll acknowledge that.
“How do you get from implant jokes to hate?”
You’re referencing Hilton’s well-publicized web cam rant refering to Ms. Prejan as “a c*nt” and “a dumb b*itch”?
What on earth would inspire you to defend this man, torrent?
Cordially,
-MFS
It’s been my experience that statists/leftists/liberals/progressives are *deeply* unhappy, narcissistic people. The world doesn’t work the way they think it should, and no matter how many people they put in gulags (or ovens) it never will. But, unfortunately, that won’t stop them from trying. I’m beginning to think there really is a mental disorder at the root of the liberal thought process.
Nope. Even if we wanted to, the GayLeftBorg is doing a damn fine job on their own. You’re projecting again.
@5: I defend Hilton not one whit. I think his comments were wrong, disgusting, and out of line. This post is discussing “Left-wing bloggers,” not P Hilton. Don’t put words in my mouth, but you might try re-reading the original post.
@7: So all of the gay rights bills passed through Democratic and left-ist organization support are a myth, huh? Did the MSM make them up? Or do you enjoy the fruits of others’ labors and then forget how you got what you have?
@4:I never said it was ok or right; I said that it doesn’t compare to the daily inhuman comments hurled at gay people. You equated the two; I disagree. You extrapolated a few comments about one person into an ideology-wide pathology. Why don’t you do a review of GOP sites (like RedState’s post today on pedophiles and hate crimes) and GOP attitudes towards gays (like Rep. Foxx and the “hoax” of Matthew Shephard”) and FreeRepublic (daily) or the AmSpec blog postings to come to the same conclusion on the right? “The Need of All Too Many on the Right to Hate?” Doesn’t the evidence support that conclusion, based on your logic here?
“Daily dehumanization? Fight to keep gay people unequal and hated” This surprises you? What do you think AFA and CWA are doing? When they’re not calling for our deportation or trying to stop gay rights bills, they’re comparing us to pedophiles. What break do you want me to give you? What part of this do you disagree with?
But, you say, not all conservatives do this. Perhaps you can discuss with Samuel Wurzelbacher? He’s a conservative everyman, right? Oh, but you’ll need to talk with him when his children aren’t around. You wouldn’t be allowed nearby otherwise, I’m afraid.
Lastly, I’m calling Governor Lynch today to urge him to sign the marriage equality bill. I’m sure you all will do the same. We have to balance the amount of calls coming from right-wing anti-gay groups trying to stop this, and I know this issue transcends party lines, right?
Lost a line:
“This post is discussing “Left-wing bloggers are still at it”, talking about further action, by more than one person, not P Hilton.”
If only every erruption of name-calling on the right led this blog to denounce it. The AFA alone would be full-time employment.
Wow. I can’t even finish a post without finding more. The Oaklahoma GOP platform, ladies and gentlemen, from April
18092009. In between calls for the use of the Bible as a history text and the promotion of creationism, count how many times they specifically want to restrict gay rights.I’ll skip the boring stuff (they clearly want us not to marry or adopt, so that’s answering @7 right there), but even better – they still want us in jail: “We oppose the promotion of homosexuality, the elimination of laws against sodomy…” And you just *know* it’s not mixed-gender sodomy (ie, like Republican Jesus wants). No no. Just that nasty gay sodomy that has to be stopped.
But hey. Maybe I’m wrong. Maybe they really are equal opportunity Republicans – they may want to control everybody’s sex life, not just that of the gay population. Oh, I’m sorry, the “gay” population. (We don’t exist, you know)
this is a historic time in america. gays are just beginning to talk openly about our everyday lives and dreams without being hung, arrested, ostracized, bullied, assaulted, fired. for the first time, exclusionary opinions of marriage recieve mainstream disagreement!
hilton tackiness hurt some feelings, but it’s reavealing how conservatives meet social challenges with the cliched angry flip and cries of victimization.
i spent more than half my 50 years trying to make bullies and bigots comfortable with themselves and put my feelings way down the list — i’m done with that now.
Gosh, torrent, you really do refuse to see the hate on your own side, wonder why that is.
oh, and dm1003, please provide examples of conservatives meeting social challenges with cries of victimization. Oh, and, I mean, if you read the post, you would know it’s about more than just Perez Hilton here . . .
tp: which OK GOP platform did you look at? I just scanned something from the Tulsa GOP and didn’t see more than a couple of items that would raise an eyebrow. We must be looking at two different things.
Re: Prejean: the left is engaged in 1984-like denunciation of someone who deviates from the party line (dare I say fascist?).
She was a beauty contest contestant. She’s running for no office and not looking to make policy. She was minding her own business when that pr*ck “Hilton” decided to veer off the usual “world peace” line of questioning. I don’t really care what she thinks anymore than I’d care what anyone on the street would think.
Hilton is doing more damage than Prejean could have imagined.
#13: “She was minding her own business when that pr*ck “Hilton†decided to veer off the usual “world peace†line of questioning.”
And what a crazy coincidence it was that he asked her that particular question. I’m sure the fact that he had a copy of her bio right in front of him indicating that she attended a C-h-r-i-s-t-i-a-n college had nothing to do with it.
torrentprime clearly lives in a fantasy world. Kind of pathetic where saying you oppose gay marriage gets you labeled as a bigot. Actually I pretty much just laugh at people like torrent when they say that stuff.
#3 Torrent Prime. You picked out a real winner to “demostrate” your assertion regarding all of the “hate mongering” on the right. I checked on the rest of the blog and didnt find anything close to this persons rant. Keep submitting your opinions…it keeps me on my toes.
#8. Torrent Prime. The US Constitution had origins/ideas adopted from the 5 Nation Confederacy (Native Americans) as I recall my history.
No, frankly, I don’t enjoy the Defense of Marriage Act, Don’t Ask/Don’t Tell etc. And no, I wouldn’t call them “gay rights” bills, but evidently they were supported by “left-ist” organizations.
And what of the left comparing us to pedophiles for political gain? Or is that OK when they’re trying to destroy a Republican, who didn’t have sex with a kid?
Once again I am speaking as a straight conservative person. The comparison is partially correct. However, a pedophile can also be one who is attracted to the child of the opposite sex. The problem though, is that the cases that have been highlighted have been those of older men encouraging children to join in their activities.
I can give an Australian example. It is anecdotal but it is a very true story, and I shudder to think what could have happened…..
There were three men who lived in the Wollongong area. I remember two names, one was Arkel (a former councillor) and the other was a David O’Hearn. Two other men, to my knowledge also share the name David O’Hearn. There was a third man in the ring, and they were child molesters and they were homosexual. One of the victims got his revenge by murdering the three of them. They were very brutal murders. What is of interest to me, and the reason that I shudder over the horrific details happens to be that my husband has the same name as one of the victims. When we were living in Sydney and before the murders took place, someone telephoned, and it was a young voice saying “remember me” and mentioning something about living in an area where my husband had never lived (he was in the Air Force at the time). This person was looking for one of those men, the one who had the same name as my husband. Keep in mind that I had no reason to know what would take place not very long after that phone call. I shudder at the thought of what could have happened if I had not made it plain that my husband did not know this person.
My point is that there are homosexuals who are pedophiles. What irks me is that some of these same pedophiles tried to get away with their crimes by attempting to have the age of consent lowered. As a mother of sons, I can assure you that I object to such proposals for a variety of reasons.
However, I am here to point out that it is also possible for pedophiles to be heterosexuals. A lot of that kind of crime is hidden because nobody likes to talk about incest – which is normally between a father and daughter, or stepdaughter, a brother and sister etc. This incest should also be categorized as pedophilia. However pedophilia is also more than just the sexual action. It involves photographs etc. etc.
If we were honest over the issue, we would forget about trying to claim that one side is beating the other over pedophilia, and we would work together to ensure that children remain safe from predators.
Children get kidnapped and murdered by pedophiles. In Australia, the first case that I remember is that of Graham Thorne, a child who was kidnapped, raped and murdered. However, it is a lot closer to home when the son of a former neighbour was kidnapped, raped and murdered. The family were Scottish immigrants. They lived next door to us for 6 months before they moved on. We moved to Sydney, and my sons were watching a Crime Stopper type show when those ex-neighbours were thrust onto the TV – the middle child, a boy of 12 had been with his brother when he was kidnapped. They found the boy’s body and he had been raped before he was murdered.
Is it any wonder that we see that relationship between pedophilia and homosexuality. It might not be a fair relationship because it is only a few who are responsible for this type of behaviour.
Now, on the other side of the coin I can tell the story of my three nieces. They were molested by their stepfather (the oldest girl) and father. The youngest was only a baby when she was molested. My sister then ordered him out of her home and divorced him. What he did is not only incest, it is pedophilia.
So how about the lefties here get off their high horse and recognize that there is a problem that exists in both the homosexual community and the heterosexual community, and that it needs attention.
As a straight person, I also have to say that I object to the way that homosexuality is being thrust upon the children all of the time, and yes it is that kind of thing happening in the school system that gets our backs up.
#11 – “gays are just beginning to talk openly about our everyday lives and dreams without being hung, arrested, ostracized, bullied, assaulted, fired.”
Sounds like something you are wishing will happen in the Middle East, where gays are already being strung up simply because of their orientation:
news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/middle_east/4725959.stm
However, another Google search shows NO gays in the USA being treated similarly.
What say you to that, Madam Troll?
Regards,
Peter H.
@21:

Sounds like the efforts of the gay rights groups which you regularly malign are paying dividends. Funny how it all worked – almost like there was a connection or something.
@13: Yes, you may have been reading the Tulsa County GOP and not the state GOP’s adopted platform. Perhaps it wasn’t anti-gay enough to pass muster?
“Demonizing?” I’d say Carrie has done a pretty effective job of self-lampoonery, complete with nude modeling shots. Gay Patriots, you picked the wrong horse to ride. By the way, the ONLY differences between Prejean and Anita Bryant is that Bryant had a sponsor and didn’t pose for nude pics. In every other respect, the two of them are carbon copies.
If the “gay patriots” had been around in the late 1970s, the gay response to Anita Bryant would have been divided. Frankly, I think there are two possibilities with respect to the “gay patriots.” First is that you are self-hating closet cases, and second is that you’re not gay at all but are an invention of Focus on the Family.
Which is it?
#24 – “Frankly, I think there are two possibilities with respect to the “gay patriots.†First is that you are self-hating closet cases, and second is that you’re not gay at all but are an invention of Focus on the Family.”
BZZZT! Both are wrong answers.
I can’t speak for everyone on this board, but I am an American who happens to be gay. My orientation has little bearing on my self-identity.
And as far as Miss California’s photos (which are NOT nudes, no matter how you and your ilk on that side of the aisle try to frame them), let the lady herself have the last word:
“I am a Christian, and I am a model. Models pose for pictures, including lingerie and swimwear photos. Recently, photos taken of me as a teenager have been released surreptitiously to a tabloid Web site that openly mocks me for my Christian faith. I am not perfect, and I will never claim to be.”
Checkmate.

Peter H.
#22 – “Sounds like the efforts of the gay rights groups which you regularly malign are paying dividends.”
If that is the case, then why aren’t they trying to stop this type of so-called “hate crime” in the Middle East? Or do they realize that gays here in the USA have it much better as a whole than in other parts of the world?
“Human Rights Campaign,” my aunt Fanny. More like the “Liberal Gay Grievance-Mongering Campaign” to me. Much more of an apt description.
Regards,
Peter H.
The reason you and your fellow gay-sex liberals are compared to pedophiles, torrentprime, is because you support teaching gay sex to five-year-olds, you dress toddlers as sexual slaves and take them to sex fairs to “show off”, and you claim that age-of-consent laws are “homophobic” since it is “common” for gays to have sex with children seventeen years their junior.
And, of course, the fact that, instead of attacking these people, you namecall and attack Carrie Prejean and Joe the Plumber — or, in other words, you attack as “homophobic” those who criticize gays who sexualize and molest children. That makes it more than obvious that you think sex with children is a normal part of being gay.
