GPW – its good to know that you survived another 5.0 tremblor. I didnt even notice it way out here in Riverside County. I had to put up with all the “news” coverage of this over rated event. My home probably wasnt on the right fault line and so I missed all the excitement. Ignatious, you are such a hoot!!!

A pretty good shake down here in north country – just lasted a few seconds. About the time I figure out what’s going on, it’s done. Glad to hear that the damage was mostly just nuisance stuff.

#1. I think “2.0″ is like “version 2″. The quake was a 4.7. Can you even feel a 2?

BOOSH!!!

Never been in an earthquake. Part of me wants to experience one. I know there’s a fault in the Atlantic that shakes Charleston, SC and even northern Florida every now and then. I suspect I’m too far south and west to feel it though.

I remember I was in HS in Mississippi when that big one hit SF. There was a program we attended at the college about the New Madrid Fault and what could happen in Mississippi if that got rolling.

Glad you and Leah are OK, Dan.

I have only felt a small tremor once – it was on the island of Rhodes in 1987. We were in a small hotel lobby and it felt like the floor was going to split open. The innkeeper yelled “Seizmo!” (“Earthquake!”) and we all rushed outside. I was expecting panic but everyone else was just standing around quietly waiting and watching.

Watching for what, you ask? The birds. Seriously. If birds return to their trees and start roosting, the danger has passed. (At least that’s what one old man told me as he fingered his crucifix and worry beads.)

Sure enough, the birds came back and life returned as usual. Funny how a small incidient like stays with you after 20 years.

Since then, I have always been cautious in a city, state or country that shakes.

2.0? Weak… Here in San Jose We got hit with a 4.something a few weeks back… I don’t even worry till it hits almost a 5.0, me and my brother even bet on the magnitude before we check the USGS site.

Heh, I was in the bay area for the 89 quake… Now that was a shaker. My mom was in the middle of getting blood drawn at the time. The nurse tried to drag my mom out while the needle was still buried in her arm.

Actually I heard Southern Cali had been hit with a swarm of quakes earlier, so I am glad all you got was only a small one.
