Can Democrats be Counted on to Keep their Word?

May 24, 2009 by GayPatriotWest

In her latest (must-read) post, Jennifer Rubin comments on the President’s failure to take “personal responsibility for our current sea of red ink“, particularly n notable given the “stimulus” and the spendthrift budget he has proposed.  Instead, he blames Bush, just as his fellow Democrat, Nancy Pelosi, also blames the former President for her latest troubles.

Well, they may not hold themselves responsible for our nation’s (or their institutions’) problems which occur under their watch, but the American people, while always giving new presidents the benefit of the doubt, will soon start expecting some results.  And Democrats will be in big trouble if the measure Democrats by the standards they set for themselves.

Let’s recall Obama’s promise during the campaign:

But there is no doubt that we’ve been living beyond our means and we’re going to have to make some adjustments.

Now, what I’ve done throughout this campaign is to propose a net spending cut.

And Mrs. Pelosi’s promise in 2006 just after Democrats took control of Congress:

The American people voted to restore integrity and honesty in Washington, D.C., and the Democrats intend to lead the most honest, most open and most ethical Congress in history.

Now if Barry and the Dems can explain what healthcare and food stamps have to do with all this…

Obama says So we’ve got a short-term problem… Short term? With government liabilities in the tens of trillions? Democrats (and some Republicans) that demagogued Social Security and Medicare reforms for years? Is chutzpah the right word?

I think Social Security will be in deficit this year – about ten years ahead of schedule (and the Social Security surplus is an accounting illusion so we’ll have to borrow to redeem in the IOUs that Social Security will be cashing in).

If Obama’s (very brief) record in the Senate indicated any hint of fiscal restraint, he’d have some credibility. But he has mastered the art of sounding sensible by decrying the very things he and the Dems are doing.

It is certainly true that he has inherited a fair amount of this mess – the US economy is too big to turn on a dime and it was certainly over-extended. But using this as an excuse to expand the Leviathan state is insane and immoral.

You’re joking with this title, right? You know their word is no good. They will make and break any promise to gain and keep power. They have no principles and no values, just as Machiavelli and Alinsky taught, the desire to rule.

Of ourse they are going to break their word. To be democrat is to either be a liar or a useful idiot.
