Why Aren’t Feminists Upset With David Letterman?

June 10, 2009 by GayPatriotWest

If the late-night TV host had referred to a female Democratic politician as he did to a prominent Republican governor, then joked about her fourteen-year-old daughter being raped, feminists would be calling on CBS to do to him what they did to Don Imus.

Wonder if this will cause any prominent to Democrats to bellow “have you no decency, Dave?”

I can not imagine how thoroughly satisfied the Palin Derangement Syndrome people must be with this shot to the gut of their nemesis. thelittleletterpeople will be noted for their absence. Since this treatment is indefensible and because they revel in such abuse, they will have nothing to say. They are not brave enough to support Letterman for making them giggle.

Sarah Palin is a mother, a wife, a governor, an attractive woman and down to earth. That really creeps the liberals out. To them there is something obviously wrong with her. She is not elite. She makes lunch for her brood. She never looks harried. She always smiles. She is stuck on God. She must be plastic.

Poor libs, they just don’t dare like her. She is everything they fear. This hardworking person who has a strong sense of responsibility and tells it like it is must be ground into the dirt.

And as for David Letterman, where does this cheap laugh line stand in the pantheon of humor? He has proved that nothing is beneath him. He could have used an editor’s intuition and scrubbed it. Instead, he chose to “go there.” He is guilty of malice. And since this undoubtedly came from a writer, it is malice aforethought.

No, Letterman has no decency. He is a twisted puppy who has hung around for the dough long after he ceased to work at his job. He buried his creative spark long ago and has used his show as a forum for letting his personal demons romp.

There is a circle in Hell waiting for him where he will be subjected to an eternity long interview with Barbara Walters while Roseanne Barr makes fart jokes.

    Their silence is deafening.

Feminists today remind me of the kid in class who averts his teachers eyes in order to avoid getting called on to supply an answer to a problem he cannot answer.

The teacher sees you, and everyone around you knows you have no reply.

They are fooling no one by their silence. They may hope we knuckle dragging mouth breathers await instructions from them about when to be outraged. Their assumption that we are too blind to notice this kind of assault and too stupid to see their ignorance of it is what will kill the movement.

To be fair here, Letterman gave no indication that Palin’s daughter would be raped. That’s a huge mischaracterization and you should change that line. Letterman says “knocked up.” That clearly is not even close to saying “raped.” Yes, the joke was in poor taste, but its hardly something to get all bent about.

[JR, when someone “knocks up” a 14-year-old girl, he has sex with her, a minor. Having sex with a minor is statutory rape. –Dan]

  7. J.R. says

Even though the youngest daughter was in attendance with Palin, I don’t think even Letterman or his writers our that sinister to write a joke about ARod having sex with a 14 year old girl. I assumed the joke was in reference to Bristol Palin, still in poor taste, but not criminal.

When they are silent about this happening they just undermine themselves. The next time they try and speak out, people will ask why they speak out for some and not all. Equality, right?

David Letterman is not funny. He is just mean. Jay Leno could dish out the jokes against Bush and Republicans too, but he was more creative and not often mean. And Letterman fails to notice that he himself is an aging man soon to be cast aside for someone younger. It won’t be that much longer. He is really quite pathetic.

because feminism as a cause is dead…

When you are fighting for a cause based on morality, you must be true to that morality at some level. If you grow apoplectic at a behavior when it’s done by one group, and utterly silent, if not outright supportive, when it’s done by another, you no longer have the moral authority required to actually claim the moral high ground required for your fight… and you do that often enough, your cause dies.

I’m thinking Clinton presided over the funeral…

If liberal women think that somehow because Dave said this about a Conservative in public that it is ok they better realize that he is saying the same thing about them just behind their backs! Men who feel the need to demean women do it to all women, they do not pick and choose however Dave knows if he said it about Obama’s daughters he would be fired so they are slick enough in their HATE for women to define when they speak nastily of them.

Having been a liberal women until 9-12 I can tell you that the WORST people in the world to have a REAL discussion about women, blacks, jews and gays would be LIBERAL white men….they are indeed the racist’s they proclaim to see in the Conservatives!

Comment #6 – Amen to that, Jaded. I am Hispanic, 55 years old, grew up in a small agricultural community in south-central Idaho. One would think that growing up in the heart of ultra-conservative Idaho would have been a personal life experience of encountering prejudice/racism on a daily basis.
To the contrary, I can only specifically recall 5 such instances in my entire life where I encountered such behavior from a “redneck” or “conservative.”
On the other hand, even as a child, I quickly became aware of the phony condescending behavior of individuals that professed “liberal beliefs.” Over time I developed a finely honed sense for detecting the bigotry they work to mask.

While I think the Willow Palin joke was indefensible, the remark I found just as disgusting (in part, because it proves the assertions in comments 6 and 12 above) was the “slutty stewardess” one.

Because Letterman outright called Palin a whore in that remark.

It’s one thing to call someone a “sexy” whatever, because it affirms she’s an attractive, desirable woman. But to call her a “slutty” anything demeans her — it’s rather like the Playboy freelancer’s hate f**k post last week. It not only objectifies her, it victimizes her and basically implies, “all she’s good for is screwing.”

Everyone in the audience knew EXACTLY what Letterman was implying in that statement. Just like the audience knew EXACTLY what Obama intended with his “lipstick on a pig” comment.

But are we really surprised by the left’s misogony? After the attacks on Hillary during the primaries and after the treatement Palin received during the campaign, can anyone pretend this is anything other than what it is?

Finally, is anyone really surprised that feminists are only offended by such matters when it’s politically expedient to be so?

I am not just shocked that writers, editors, producers, and David Letterman could not find their conscience on the way to the laugh line, but also because the audience actually did laugh.

    Re Marianna’s comment

Thank you for proving the point in one post. It’s not an issue to demean a woman, to make jokes about statuatory rape on her daughter when it’s someone not liked by the left. Heck, let’s encourage such behaviour!

I understand though why her talk about morals and values must confuse you. Alien concepts often do.

Just like that wolf hunting is regulated and a valid form of predator control. It’s not fun. Most consevatives don’t take delight in the cruelty and suffering of another. That’s part of the reason of the hunt in the first place.

We’ll leave joy in others’ suffering and making jokes about a crime like rape to your side.

Look the liberals and Democrats can say these mean hateful things about Republicans and their children because in their minds conservatives are EVIL. Anything goes when fighting evil. When liberals slip up and say dumb things they are fogiven because they are righteous. Jackson…hymietown, Clintons racist comments about Obama, Kerry and Murthas comments about the military. Righteous vs evil. It is also why the media views the events this way. They blow Republican missteps out of proportion, because , well this is who they are. Uncaring, mean heartless etc.

Two more recent gaffes by the VP, the first critical decision made by Obamateleprompter…picking a competent Vice President…..

    On the economy . . .

The vice presidential gaffe machine was in high gear Tuesday. During a press conference call with reporters, Joe Biden was asked to explain how exactly the administration plans to create 600,000 new jobs this summer.

But according to The American Spectator, when reporters asked the VP to explain how the White House even came up with the 600,000 number, he asked for a pass, saying a question like that is “above his pay grade” and, “I’m sorry, I’m not an economist. My background is in foreign policy.”

That is so comforting coming from the guy who President Obama tasked with implementing the stimulus plan.

. . . And did Biden just put Judge Sotomayor’s nomination in jeopardy?

Vice President Joe Biden may have crossed the line when he assured national law enforcement groups Monday that Supreme Court nominee Sonia Sotomayor “has your back.”

The remark quickly stirred criticism in the legal world, since Biden was making a pledge that a fair and objective justice would not necessarily be able to

And just for comparison purposes, let’s see how Dippy Dave would have gone over if his monlogue had gone like this:

“The category tonight – Top Ten Hghlights of Michelle Obama’s Visit to New York. I didn’t know she was coming but we made room for her on the show. I hope she shows us those wonderful arms.

“She was here, she was up at Yankee Stadium. OK, Top Ten Hghlights of Michelle Obama’s Visit to New York. Here we go:

“10. Visited New York landmarks of the country she’s finally proud of.

“9. Laughed at all the homeless whiteys she saw on the streets.

“8. Made collard greens and chitlins on Rachel Ray.

“7. Broke into and stole a car on Park Avenue.

“6. After pulling a gun and screaming, “I’m gonna pop a cap in your ass” at a drug dealer, scored a kilo of cocaine for her husband.

“5. Made a sleeveless sweater out of 100 live rats.

“4. Sat in for Kelly Ripa after she pulled a knife on Kelly and threatened to slice and dice her.

“3. Made a white guy give up his seat for her on the subway.

“2. Bought makeup at Bloomingdale’s to cover up her resemblance to Aunt Esther on Sanford & Son.

“And the number-one Top Ten Hghlight of Michelle Obama’s Visit to New York: Especially enjoyed showing off her $540 sneakers at a local homeless shelter.”

    (Musical interlude by Paul Schaeffer.)

“In a related story, Michelle attended a Yankee’s game. One awkward moment during the game. Maybe you heard about it or saw it on one of the highlight reels. An awkward moment for Michelle Obama at the Yankee’s game. During the 7th inning, both her daughters were knocked up by Alex Rodriguez. You can see how that would be awkward.

“But, given President Obama’s love of abortion there are no worries. Those mistakes can have their brains sucked out and be killed just as they’re coming out of the girls. No sense in punishing a preteen with a child.”

    Gee, really funny, huh?

    Not.
