Your point does not really justify the foolishness that led to Obama’s election, but you may be correct about the dynamic in Iran. What that would indicate is that God has an impeccable sense of irony, and that he can salvage just about anything.

Events don’t occur in a vacuum. Conservatives never seem to have gotten it — and still don’t — that the inspirational force behind President Obama inspires not just Americans, but people all around the globe. Obama’s image serves as potent propaganda abroad to advance the interests of the United States. It’s not coincidence that the young people in Iran have adopted the rallying cry of our past election — that they want “change.”

The young people in Iran saw what happened in this country — the youth movement behind Obama. And they are now replicating it in theirs. The current series of events in Iran would not be happening today without it.

Gene – I don’t think asking the Iranians to rise up” with the support of western Democracies would yield any results.

First, there are no western democracies willing to risk trade losses with Iran. Second, they may well remember what happened to the Iraqis that were asked to “rise up” after Gulf War I.

I’m afraid that they’re on their own.

(Didn’t Obama say we couldn’t impose our values? This may include suggestions.)

I’m not sure what the problem is. Obamateleprompter wanted to talk to the dictators and repressive regime in Iran. And after a fake and corrupt election, Obama still has his chance to do that. A more progressive freedom loving leader of the free world might call for the Iranian people to rise up with the support of western Democracies. But don’t expect that from our young President. Chatting and being chums with the likes of Chavez, Castro and Ahmenejad is right up Obamas alley.
