Hope I'm not sullying this thread, but RIP to Farrah Fawcett. I had the famous poster on my bedroom wall as a little kid. She was strange, but a better actress than many think (The Apostle, and others). She almost had me believing in angels.

Can you imagine Ed McMahon calling a presidential candidate a "slutty looking stewardess"? It would never happen.

How many people wanted Ed to show up at their house with that big check?

Not many comments. Please don't tell me folks are wondering "Ed who?".

The ultimate second banana has passed on. I fondly remember his talent show "Star Search" & of course his commercials for Publisher's Clearinghouse. RIP, Ed.

"Johnny Carson & Ed McMahon were icons to me growing up."

Yes, they were great entertainers, weren't they! They did it all without resorting to crude comments about others. They were often the butt of their own jokes. Such as all the kidding about what was really in Ed McMahon's coffee cup. (years later I read that it was only iced tea; but what a funny, long-running joke)

Aside from class, the one thing that seems to be missing from late night shows, or even most talk shows is the variety that they brought into our living rooms each night. While Johnny and Ed would have on the latest movie star; they would also have on the show someone like Beverly Sills from the world of Opera.

I know it sounds boring; but I still remember (all these decades later) Beverly showing Johnny how they "stab" someone in opera using a real knife. Of course, she demonstrated using Johnny as the victim. It take something like Opera, which to most people is boring, and make it entertaining shows just how talented those two guys really were.

So, yea, it will be a helluva a talk show up in Heaven tonight with a line up of Bea Arthur, David Carradine, and Beverly Sills.
